Thats not something that should bother you, yet here you are.
No narrative other than liking clean discussions. Hating a company based on something they did that didnt affect me decades ago and slow progress seems a bit extreme especially wishing them to no longer exist and we end up with a monopoly, I guess the old phrase of "mud sticks". But the reason for my comment is most CPU related threads get a lot of these type of posts now, nothing other then that, I have no love for Intel and do criticise them. I also have never celebrated success for any brand or even witnessed it really, I dont see anyone cheering on any other PC brand.although the console manufacturers have their own fan boys and cults, for AMD it stands out a lot as its the only PC brand that seems to have a cult following.

The media did criticise Zen5, but they did also criticise Intel, there was some very long videos about Intel speculating and talking about the degradation issues in their products which caused a frenzy, despite this you made a comment you felt Intel was given some kind of preferential treatment as if it offended you, so yes I could tell.

If releasing poor products, and engaging in dodgy activities was enough for me to feel "personally" aggrieved I would probably hate the vast majority of companies out there, as they all do anti consumer behaviour and release dud products from time to time, it is part of standard corporate behaviour.

Only 2.5 years! had to check this myself as it feels like it was released a time ago, but no, April 2022
But the underlying architecture of the 5000 series was May 2020, so almost 5 years. The underlying architecture of the 9000 series just launched barely two months ago, so the x3D cpu's will hold their own for a very long time.

We are way off topic so wont say more besides this: Its not that I am a rabid AMD fan, its that I hate them the least, compared to how much I hate all the others.

And will leave at that.

In my country the 9800x3d costs 589€ while the 7800x3d cost 450€ when it came out.
It's not really just 30€ more as the reviewers keep saying...we're really far from it.
We are blinded by the 10% more performance while the ratios of this new cpu are just meh.

If there was an AM5 board that I liked that also didnt cost an arm and a leg I think I would have been tempted, the motherboard situation is really annoying for me.

Me too. Not interested in paying for premiums which don't reflect my use-case. By the time some of those high-end features come into play, by then I'm probably already up for a full upgrade. I'm a cheapie... got myself a free AM4 mobo from an abandoned spare build and threw in a 5800X3D for 256 quid and bombs away its still a persistent little bugger in 11-2024. I get the 'temptations' too... but the inner cheapie never fails to slap me up back to second-rate.

As a 7800X owner I highly disagree. Power consumption was absolutely a big factor. If I didn't care about that I would have just gotten a 14900K.
But... you're not a 7800X3D owner...

  • No NPU for AI acceleration
I'm sure all the people planning on buying one that don't have a GPU to do AI workloads are crying.

With a smaller manufacturing process, why aren't processors getting more power efficient?
They are, performance per watt is raising. Just not as fast as it used to.

I just viewed LTT review.

With RTX4090, RT off at 1440p and ultra preset, the comparison of the 3 AMD 3D CPUs looked like this:

View attachment 370707

And this is the most powerful GPU available with RT off.

What is all the ruckus about??? At realistic settings, CPUs almost do not matter today, and with lower tier GPUs they do not matter at all.

what about intel performance versus that 3 AMD CPu's, on that scenario ?

its the same or what ?

1. Does own the 7800X3D according to system specs
2. True, plus most CPUs are set to not leave power and performance “on the table”

They did, to me and many others when they kept us in 4 core hell for a decade and had no issues in engaging in illegal actions that affected our pockets and lined up theirs.
AMd has you in 6 core hell for - considering zen 6 is at least a year away - 8 years. Doesn't seem to bother you that much

If you use dlss cpus will matter a lot more, but the difference from 5800x3d to 9800x3d is generally minor anyways.

Yep at 4k the minimum delta difference between them are around 4% and relate averages as well. At 1080p the minimum framerate has a delta difference of 20% while the averages are slightly lower at 17%. I wonder how much a 5090 improve the deltas, looking at the 720p performance the difference here is about 33% on the relative average. We might see a similar delta move up 1 resolution if the 5090 is at least a 50% improvement over the 4090.

Also worth mentioning that if you tweak the 5800x3d you gain very little, only 3-4% on avg, tweaking 9800x3d with tuned ram, delid, allcore oc can gain over 10%. Derbauer gained about 6% on his delidded allcore oc vs stock. If you tweak tREFI and tRFC you can also get most of the ram-tuning gains :)

Yeah the 9800X3D definitely seems like a enthusiast tweaker dream cpu. I got the lianli GA trinity performance 360 to keep things cool and quiet. Cheers!

Thank you for the review, this is what I saw so far, the 9800x3d uses a lot more power than the 7800x3d, maybe underclock it a little and lower the voltage a little will make it a champion x the 7800x3d in power consumption and efficiency. Also the 9800x3d appears to be at least 30% more efficient in cooling x 7800x3d. While 7800x3d does 69c stock using much less power, 9800x3d stock does 60c while using a lot more power.

Apps
9800x3d is 15% faster than 7800x3d

Gaming:
1080p 9800x3d is 4% faster than 7800x3d.
2160p 9800x3d is 1% faster than 7800x3d.
My thought's also exactly. By undervolting you could get same powerconsumption out of it than 7800x3d but more modern design that should perform better or atleast the same as 7800x3d with lower temps ofc

CPU for GPU test system has been ordered
Those fuckers .. "sorry but we're temporarily out of stock of your ordered items. Of course we'll send the missing item as soon as it's here. Expected date: unknown"

There was clearly an indication of "stock available right now" when I ordered, the payment was completed through Amazon Pay, which should be instant .. I am friends with a lot of people at Caseking, but next time I am buying something I'll buy somewhere else
