About time, they are only like nearly 10 years late to the party. I mean their old Nvidia Control Panel was super dated for a very long time and considering how much market share they have you would think they could invest in updating their software. To be fair I do like how basic it is and takes nothing to run. Now they need to integrate more features to the overclocking suite to make it more competitive.

Looks fine on my 4k 32".

Because these tools are all about looks. Right?

Here's one for you: it works.
That's not what I mean. Look at 3D settings, the list, how much does it actually use of the available space?
It works, for a 640x480 display, and takes ages to change settings.

I'm pretty sure every software developer was happy with it, but "biggest company in the world" can't have that look, said management.

It'll be nice to finally ditch MSI Afterburner.

It' hilarious that Nvidia, the richest company on earth, has relied on MSI to provide this functionality for free for so long. And I do not dislike Afterburner at all, but I'd rather not have to install third-party software for what I consider core functionality of the hardware I've paid for.

The other reason I'd rather not use Afterburner is because MSI are some shady, selfish d-bags who refused to pay the author of Rivatuner for over a year until it was escalated to mainstream tech press and started to look real bad for MSI. "Sanctions against Russia" wasn't a valid excuse for two reasons; First of all, MSI continued to sell hardware in Russia during this time. Secondly, MSI continued to host and promote Alexey;s updates to Afterburner, despite not paying him. Sanctions work both ways and continuing to host and promote the updated versions without paying the author isn't sanctions, it's plain theft of the scummiest form - hiding behind bullshit excuses as you rob someone in broad daylight with witnesess.

Reading between the lines, Nvidia have been working with Gamescope (Linux-based, tool - as per the Steam Deck's clocking and monitoring software) for at least a year now, so I'm going to assume that the new tuning control built into the Nvidia app is based on or directly using Gamescope.

No, the the Control Panel was and still is just perfect. This "App" was produced because of the whiners who want something "modern". It's just fluff. Annoying fluff.

NVCP is slow, weirdly organized (imo) even though it functions, and lacks feature parity when it comes to AMDs modernized CP. Honestly all Nvidia needed to do was provide proper performance controls (fan, power, clock, undervolt, and maybe some profiles), but instead we got the this garbage.

While I have a 4080, I would pick AMDs CP and driver functionality every time over NVCP. Being able to change settings on the fly through and overlay rather than tabbing about and waiting for NVCP to load is a sorry excuse for a “software” company this day in age.

I can't ditch afterburner even on AMD gpus, coz the Full Installation of the Adrenalin looks like an abysmal chunk of bloatware. While Minimalistic is OK, but lacks of overclocking features, plus amd overclocking always resets after a driver update. But at least is sets my display to Full RGB / ycbcr444 by default.

I don't know if I would call it perfect, but I see your point about fluff. However, I am mostly just interested in them adding some more features overall.

For example?

NVCP is slow
Not really.
weirdly organized (imo) even though it functions
What? It's logically organized. It functions well. It's a shining example of efficiency, unlike AMD's horrible excuse for a control panel, which is barely worthy of the description.
I would pick AMDs CP and driver functionality every time over NVCP.
Good god, really? I deal with both regularly and have to disagree most strongly. NVCP is very well organized, easy to use and works great. AMD's version is a convoluted mess by comparison.

coz the Full Installation of the Adrenalin looks like an abysmal chunk of bloatware.
THIS!

All I really want is fully unlocked software overclocking for at least legacy cards. There's no reason I shouldn't be able to blow up 10 year old cards if I want, whether it's nvidia or amd/ati.

NVPI is still the only tool that let's one normally set for example per-game/application g-sync settings. It has export/import features. It has blazing fast profile selection. It's my basic tool for settings things up or importing profiles after any clean install (using - big surprise - nvcleanstall)

One would think that 3.5T+ company could actually look at what people use around, what was missing in old panel, and code something really useful (and covering all old features instead of missing basic stuff).

Instead .... the new "yet another chromium frontend" focuses on pretty looks, in-game "optimization" (who seriously even uses it ?) and goodness knows what else ... Things can be both modern and good. This "app" is only modern. Maybe it will be good after another decade, doubt though.

Nvidia does the thing.

AMD users - Not like that!

I never agreed with the pressure to change NVCP up (and I didn't use GFE at all), my experience is that Adrenaline software, while feature rich, is a bloated, visually cluttered dogs breakfast that tries to excuse itself by looking modern, and I get the same impression from the Nvidia app. I guess eventually we'll have to use it when NVCP gets retired, and I hope that day is far away. Never had an issue with MSI afterburner either, I prefer and am used to it's functionality and overlay.

Whatever you said makes no sense:

"Weirdly organized"?

I can agree with feature parity for sure, but AMD's rendition also takes up too much size. I understand this makes it easier for touchscreen devices, but it should be able to scale down the text and extra spaces for mouse usage.

EDIT: To be honest, this is really the best option:

If only NVIDIA had that same option in their driver too. For clarity:

a "real" improvement for me would be integrating more features, like a check box to turn off zero-rpm implementation, or integrating CRU (custom res is not enough for windows 10 since it does not change resolution preference).
i am not looking forward to the day app replaces NVCP

One of the reasons I'm using AMD cards is because their software is less intrusive and has more features. Hope this new app will be an improvement. My experience with Nvidia software so far was only frustratious and usually ended up in me uninstalling everything and just staying with driver only.

Still lacks some features that are not listed under the "Global Settings" I sometimes use these, depending on the Game/GPU:

  • Triple Buffering
  • Anisotropic Filtering
  • Texture Filtering
  • Texture Filtering (Negative LOD bias)

Thanks but no thanks. I prefer just having the driver and possibly an updated version of PhysX if there's one. Never installed GF Experience, never will install this (unless it becomes forced).

Going through the comments over here it's funny how no one misses the Radeon control panel from ATI days and uses modern AMD app instead without issues, but somehow NVCP is something no one should even try to replace in 2024.
I'd say that ATI/AMD improved that continously, so never had issues with that. Though the old Radeon panel was simple and just worked, still use it from time to time when tinkering with old cards.

From what i can see barely any option from the NVCP has been ported over, only Video RTX no one cares about.

From this article i see no way to enable DSR, Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, FPS Limit, Texture Filtering, V-Sync, Performance Mode etc etc... nothing, it's all gone.

And this suppost to replace the NVCP... wow, i hope i won't live to see the day then.

V-Sync ''fast and Low latency ''ultra are present, max framerate also there, no performance mode, I miss the AA transparency more.. As for the others, they show up as in-game settings unless you seek to force them in the Classic CP, but as I've found that can backfire and lead to mixed results. Shader cache unlimited looks interesting, I wonder where this accumulates on disk.

I switched to Nvidia a few days ago, now I need to look for Afterburner and probably Inspector and possibly some other software to get my card working the way I want.
With Adrenaline - I don't need anything to use the full potential of the card and monitor it.
AMD has rewritten Adrenaline multiple times in recent years, and they finally put out a poll to their users on what they wanted inside and implemented it.

And by the way NVCP is a joke.
* Maybe someday the new app will become a thing, but for now it's nothing more than unwanted software.

Yeah a lot is missing, I am making use of video RTX though, works on the buffy the vampire slayer DVD set. :)
