Well, I tried :
First boot to Windows, after checking settings are applied - shut down, then switch off PSU + wait for caps to run dry. After that I powered it on again, and went straight to BIOS.
All settings were kept (date, OC settings, boot order, etc).

Note : I made BIOS "kept" settings after boot failure (just in case to avoid any false wipes due to BIOS thinking it's "OC failure").
With that bug, depending on the defaults, it very likely will search for network boot. That's how I knew.

Enjoying YouTube in 360p on the slowest 1c/2t desktop CPU (2003) paired with 2 GB of DDR1 memory in single channel. Plus a budget AGP card from 2007 and a PATA drive:

Boots to desktop in 45 s, running 32-bit Win7 with Firefox ESR. Pretty serviceable for a 21 year old architecture :peace:

To be fair, 360p is not a terrible experience. It's not wonderful, but it's totally watchable.
True. I have YT Premium, but normally watch it in 720p. 480p is still OK for most content IMO. 360p is a bit meh but far from being unusable.

Its from a Dell with AIC 3860Q chip. A normal would be an AIC 7800?

Note, that this was when I did a normal shutdown, then unplugged the PSU cord to move it or whatever.

The NT4 driver I have for that card is named "7800wnt_022299.exe" so you might be on to something.

I made a quick vid of the oldest HDD I have spinning up and running a defragmentation:
Also, that power switch is exactly as satisfying as it sounds.

That is just the bridge chip. The chip for the card is under the sticker. In a different model 2940 card I found an image of one without the sticker.

I wouldn't use Windows Me if I were you. It is quite an unreliable, unfinished stopgap of an OS. I'd use 98SE instead. Also, what kind of drive are you trying to eject?

So when you eject the flash drive using the icon in the notification area, nothing happens? Also, you should just be able to plug in a FAT or FAT32 USB drive into a Windows Me PC and it should pop up; you might not need the floppy drive for now. Also, I will say that it's convenient that Me has built-in USB mass storage drivers.

Thats a COINCIDENCE you using the same card as me.I was using a 9600xt before that but it was flickering ,i take it there is a problem  I take it you are using 98 or are you using Me?Thanks for the link for the drivers.:)

I always try to avoid torrents. Vogonsdrivers is a very good place to find drivers for old hardware.

I take it you are using 98 or are you using Me?
ME ofcourse :peace:

The NT4 driver I have for that card is named "7800wnt_022299.exe" so you might be on to something.

I tried that one. It gives me a folder 3.51 and 4.0.
When loading the diskette during setup, it loads the driver, but says there is no drive found.

I also tried using file 2940u2w_bios_v2572.exe to flash the bios on the controller. And it updated succesfully with status "0" what is good.
But this also give me the same result on Windows NT Setup

I was able to install MSDOS on the SCSI drive with the 2.1GB partition limit, and it boots normal. The SCSI id is 7, the controller is ID 0 if i remember good. At the end of the cable is the resistor.

Is it possible that NT cannot detect the drive because its 36GB?

Do you have the same problem as me 3dmak2000 needs Direct x 7 and proper drivers installed to work properly.?
3DMark99. requires Directx6 comparable 3D accelerator to work?
Have you got yours to work?
The other thing is i have two other cards and both of them flicker? :(
Can anything be done about that?
Or are they on the way out?The best one of the two has stopped flickering i am glad to say. :)It is a 9600xt the computer has installed * Standed drivers *

Properly partitioned & formatted they should be ok.
Can you sort out all the problems i have with ME and the cards flickering Lex o_O

With a 64GB card, the best partition scheme is two 32GB partitions. One Primary and one extended. Remember to create a Logical drive in the extended partition. That should solve your formatting issues with your main OS drive. The floppy thing is more complicated. The Video card flickering might be a WDM vs VXD thing. With WinME you want to use WDM where ever possible.

I forgot when posting does this card give you an option ROM you can enter setup and change settings for the card such as some large disk support option? When I was using this SCSI card many years ago I remember some factors you had to consider were
  • jumpers on the drive
    • (drives might have jumpers for scsi id, make sure that doesn't conflict with setup in the option rom)
  • cable termination
    • (looks like you got that covered)
  • if the drive supported LVD/SE when using the LVD/SE connector
    • (some drives may have a jumper to enable that)
Do you know which service pack level of NT4 are you installing? If you have an NT4 sp6 install disk that might help.

Win 2000 is much better anyway. All the stability of NT4 and a much wider range of compatibility.
