Gigabyte AMS Radeon RX6600 Eagle - Only 1 1/2 years old. Bought brand new off Newegg.

I've been having trouble with no signal to monitor on the RX 6600 getting progressively worse over the last few weeks. Tested the CPU and RAM and they're good. Tested the PSU and it's good. One thing I need to mention though is that I started getting a POST beep code of "no video card" also on this card. It'll work when it's warmed up, dead as a nail when it's cold. That indicates a physical hardware problem like a cracked trace or something on the card I know. I have read that certain viruses can mess up the BIOS though. I just wanted to try one more thing before I chunk this card. I can't believe it's messed up after only a year an half.

This card has only one BIOS entry for download on TechPowerUp and that's the original BIOS which I have downloaded. I figured I would try to flash the original BIOS onto the card to replace a possible corrupted BIOS to give this card one last chance.

I'm running an old VistionTek AMD Radeon 5600 in PCIe Slot 1 and I have the RX6600 in Slot 2. When I go to flash Slot 2 which is indexed as the No. "1", the program reports back that the card in PCIe Slot 1 (which is indexed as "0") does not have the functionality to flash.

How did you test your power supply?

Have you tried different monitors?

Check gigabytes RMA warranty

While youre at it have hwinfo64 open with sensors only, have motherboard power supply voltages shown also voltages/current shown going to the card, while idle and loaded please

Sorry I had to get some chow

Win10
ASUS 970 Pro Gamer (AM3+ socket)
AMD FX8350 CPU
32GB RAM
Thermaltake Toughpower 750W PSU
Monitor 54in. Samsung 4K TV

Yeah, I have the MB BIOS updated to the latest and last one actually (901). I ran Prime95 on it for a solid hour with no errors to rule out the CPU and the RAM. Then I switched out my PSU with my sons old Thermaltake PSU and still got a "no video card" POST beep when cold. Cleaned the No. 1 PCIe slot. Ran my sons old VisitonTek Radeon RX 5700 in both PCIe slots and got signal fine. Ran my sons old NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti in both slots and it got signal fine. Hooked it up to the old 19in Visio TV and go the same results as when hooked up to the Samsung 54in. on the RX6600. Switching monitors made no difference.

The RX6600 is up an running right now. I'm using it right now. It'll play games fine and everything is normal after it warms up and it boots into window. Oh yeah, I haven't checked with an RMA from Gigabyte. I don't even have the receipt for this card. I bought it on Newegg as a guest user and used PayPal and never kept the Email order confirmation and I went to Newegg the other to try to bring up the guest order for the card by entering in my Email address and they don't even keep order history past 120 days.

And I did buy an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable and plugged it in to it.

You definitely are in a pickle,

So when it warms up it is ok?

Yeah. Any common sense I have tells me that's hardware failure. Either a cracked trace or bad component on the card. When whatever it is warms up it expands and makes better contact, if it's a cracked trace. And maybe some components that go bad have the same characteristic.

Is there any word why I couldn't get the VBIOS flashed? What was I doing wrong?

With what you just wrote, I highly doubt a bios flash will resolve the problem.

If you live in the US, there is a pcb shop called northridgefix that can repair that card correctly.

If you want to continue with the flash which might brick knowing the problem with a solder joint, please follow mine, @Imperator, @VuurVOS guidance.

Please get a picture of the White Part number and or model number sticker located on the back of the card, plus a gpu-z screenshot.

The gpus have bios protection for a reason, lets try to help you locate the correct 1 before attempting a flash.

Like eidairaman1 said, a bios flash will (likely) not solve your issue.

Couple of questions:
  • Did you try different outputs on the graphics card since the card has two HDMI and two DP ports? Did you try the DP ports as well?
  • Did you try to clean those output with a can of compressed air?
  • Did you try to reseat the HDMI cable a couple of times in a row? For example 10 times?
  • Did you try to connect to a different monitor? A TV screen is not really a monitor.
  • Did you try the graphics card in the system of your son?

When I booted from dead cold this morning the card passed POST but then the monitor reported no signal. So when it does that I do a hard shutdown and reboot and the monitor gets signal and everything is fine. That's happened numerous times and actually started doing that before the card started failing POST along the way. Boot, no signal, hard shutdown, boot again, get signal (part of the temperature problem? Gets a little heat then walah? ).

Maybe I'm wrong about hardware failure? Is it possible that a corrupt BIOS could make the MB report "no video card"? I don't think so but I really don't know. BTW, I can't seem to find the threads where you helped Imperator and VuurVOS flash their BIOSes.

This card won't go into 16x on the No. 1 PCIe slot for nothing and I was working on that problem for a while. I found on a forum that it turned out to be an ASUS MB BIOS setting in the PCIe settings but the ASUS 970 MB that I have doesn't have the same available settings where I can set PCIe settings as I read about. No matter what kind of video stress test the fans don't come on either. But, maybe I'm not using a stringent enough of a video stress test. Know any good stand alone video card stress test I can download where I can try to get this thing into 16x mode?

No. 1 - I didn't even realize till last night that the card had two HDMI outputs. I thought all along it had 1 HDMI and 3 DP ports. But I stuck it in the other HDMI port last night and it worked fine (but the system was warmed up so...) but then decided to put it back in the original HDMI port to the check the card one more time on a cold boot this morning with my new Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. It passed POST this morning with the new HDMI cable on a cold boot in the same port I've been using all along but got no signal on first boot and had to reboot to get signal. NOW, I've stuck it in the other HDMI port and we'll see what happens tomorrow on a dead cold boot in the other HDMI port. It could seriously just be that one port messed up.

I do not have any DP cables or a DP port on my moinitor/TV

No. 2 - I haven't tried cleaning the port with air. However, the whole time I've had the card I've kept the factory port plugs installed in the unused ports.
No. 3 - I've pulled the HDMI cable out and plugged it back in a million times over the past couple of weeks pulling the card off the MB and trying different configurations and so forth. On the monitor/TV also.
No. 4 - Yeah, I connected a 19" Visio HD TV to it to test it one time and go the same thing. No signal.
No. 5 - I have not tried it on my sons old rig yet but I do want to do that.

tbf it seems like it. This MB is my first uefi MB bios and windows 10 my first uefi OS. I stayed on Win7 forever. For as long as I could and went to windows 10 about a year and half ago, like 2 years before they plan to retire updates for it. I stick with what I like for as long as I can.

Thanks I really appreciate it.

BTW, I did a short read on UEFI vs BIOS and see that BIOS initialization is stored on firmware on the device and UEFI initialization is stored in a file on it's own little partition. I'm just an ignorant end user. What do I know. End users just want the crap to work without having to go to tech school.

Uefi is still on the firmware/flash eeprom IC, CMOS holds onto the settings you adjust on the motherboard.

Ah ok.

I forgot to mention that when I changed out my original HDMI cable for the new Ultra High Speed cable I just got, looking on the outer casing of the original cable it said that it was an HDMI High Speed+Ethernet combined cable. I don't know if that has to do with anything.

So the HDMI cable is now changed out to the latest fastest cable
The HDMI cable is pugged into the secondary HDMI port now. Different port.
And I also changed the ASUS MB BIOS compatibility support module (CSM) setting to disabled, so now I've only got 1 UEFI OS listed for any boot whatsover. I disabled windows boot manger uefi.

Everything has been running pretty smooth all day on the card since I switched over to the other HDMI port and disabled CSM. I'll be curious to see what happens tomorrow on first boot. If I get a "no video card" from the MB then I really have nothing to loose at that point so I might as well flash the BIOS to replace the one that's already onboard at that point.

Open GPU-Z again, switch to the advanced tab and click on the context menu with the word general on it, and change to memory timings, get a screenshot please, apparently Hynix made 2 different ram...

There seems to be no memory timing option in GPU-Z under that tab..

This morning when I booted from cold, and I keep it cold in my house like 63F because I sleep better, the MB made no post beep at all. So no video signal either. So I shut it down hard and rebooted and then I get a POST beep and signal from video card is fine. Now that's an issue/anomaly with the MB that has nothing to do with the video card. So maybe the MB has an issue. I got this motherboard used off of Newegg. And the 3.1 USB ports on this board never delivered 3.1 speeds either from setup and I have everything and anything to do with USB and USB ports enabled in the MB BIOS and have the correct USB 3.0 drivers installed in Windows.

To see what happens tomorrow on first boot, I went in and disabled Fast Boot in the ASUS BIOS, and I'm leaving Fast Startup enabled in Windows\Power Options\Choose What the Power Buttons Do\Change Settings That Are Currently Unavailable\Turn on Fast Startup

This is the only PCIe settings anywhere in the ASUS 970 BIOS. It has three options and I have it on Auto:

Only PCIe Setting - Spread Specturm - Set to AUTO.png

Edit: After my last reply I shut it down and did some stuff around the house and went out of the house for a while and about 2 hours later when I came back I turned it on and I got the post beep and signal just fine. The only two things that changed was that it's a little warmer in the house and I disabled fast boot in the ASUS bios.

Used motherboard is sus now, and sadly AM3+ is over 10 years old now, so there are no more bnib mobos

On gpu-z just keep on changing that context menu until you see something relating to your memory used on the gpu.

I can't figure out if it's hardware failure or software failure at this point. Booted this morning from stone dead cold, 63degrees in the house, got single post beep and booted into Win10 fine. I really want to figure this out without buying some new hardware and I was looking at upgrading the MB and CPU to AM4 or AM5 and the RAM to go along with it and then I thought, what if I buy all that stuff and still have a problem and it only turned out to be either the video card or some something corrupt in Win10 boot manager. All I know is that the rig was running along just fine for over a year an half with no issues. Something changed for sure. Maybe if I ever figure this out it'll help someone else who finds this thread and has the same problem and they won't have to beat their head against the wall trying to figure it out like me.

I doubt if any of this is what you're looking for:

So, with a successful cold boot this morning, here's my current settings and changes that I made from my original system configuration. I'm not real hopeful that the success will continue. We'll see:

  1. Fast boot disabled in ASUS BIOS
  2. CSM disabled in ASUS BIOS
  3. Windows boot manager disabled in ASUS BIOS boot settings (had to use Hiren’s PE boot cd to access boot options with Disk Genius to create a separate UEFI OS entry for windows 10 OS first before I could disable windows boot manager in ASUS BIOS)
  4. Windows boot manager also disabled in windows 10 settings by setting boot timers to “0”
  5. Fast Startup left enabled in Windows 10 settings
  6. All secondary hard drives originally connected are now disconnected leaving only the single M.2 drive connected to MB with Win10 on it:
    - SATA SSD drive (w/Win7 on it) disconnected
    - SATA HDD drive (w/old Win7 from different MB) disconnected
  7. Switched HDMI cable from original port on video card to secondary HDMI port.
  8. Switched from high speed HDMI cable w/ethernet to ultra high speed HDMI cable.
  9. TV/monitor on and up and waiting for signal
Result for dead cold boot - got single post beep and windows booted fine

I'm bringing my sons old rig over to my house some time this week and I'm going to put the VCard in his old rig and run that for a few days and see what happens. If the card runs fine with no problems, and since I've already determined that the CPU RAM and PSU are good, then that will only leave the MB.

Ya know what, open gpu-z again, click the arrow next to the uefi checkbox, attempt to upload the bios through the program itself to the VGA Bios Collection, you might get a prompt that it's already in the collection with a link to it, also if it does upload, copy the links and post them here please.

It said it was already in the collection and took me to this:

That's the one I downloaded and tried to flash over I guess. It says it's an unverified BIOS though.

Currently you are using F2 which seems to be an update of F1 vbios which is likely the release bios of the card

The F1 bios is verified:

From what i see on here sometimes doing the same bios over fixes problems.

Id say try both.

I believe 3.15 and higher amdvbflash must be used and the driver within the amd vbflash folder must be installed to do it correctly.

Also amdvbflash -? Or i believe /? Will prompt all command switches

Ah ok, good to know. Thanks for your help

Thanks for your help. I was using amdvbflash 5.0.5 along with your command prompt instructions as you can see in my op. Why wouldn't it flash to it before?

The card is booting ok now is the funny thing. Booted up fine again this morning at 62F in my house. Got signal fine. Booted up again way later in the afternoon without turning on the TV/monitor for about 10 minutes while the computer was up and when I turned on the TV the signal came up and Windows login was up no problem.

Edit: I've decided that if the card keeps running ok for the next few days that I'm going to forego trying to flash the vbios. If it stays good then what I want to do is to backtrack and put things back one at a time to see if I can recreate the issue to pin down exactly what it was that was causing the problem.
