New video from Phil. The original PhysX was actually way more impressive than the Nvidia one on GPUs.

I may have even few unused Asus branded myself, even a floppy cable somewhere. As my A7N8X-X doesn't have SATA (solder pads for the connectors and controller though), I have to use PATA DVD drive and HDDs.

I am testing all my boards out and, on the GA7VAXP two floppy connections on the board don,t work:(. To sell it should i take the ram heat sink and CPU out and sell it as *For parts not working*?o_OI am looking on eBay and one has gone for £10 with bad caps.so i guess i could get £10 for it.I don,t like having stuff that does not work like it should.

It has only 1 floppy connector on that board. The 3 green and 1 white are IDE and IDE RAID..
The black one is the floppy

1732318544593.png

Have you connected it the right way?

The 1 end with the twisted part goes to the floppy. The other end to the floppy connector on the board. And again, that is the black connector. The connector in the middle of the cable normally is not used
And setup Drive A as 1.44MB in the BIOS
Drive B: None

When your led of the drive starts blinking immediately after turning on the PC, switch the cable at the floppy drive.. Of course when you turned off the PC....

Mine that was made in 2004, got bad KZG series caps in the mid-2010s! Bulging and leaking!

2004 and 2005 are extremely bad years for Chemi-con KZG caps! But they still lasted for 8 years, IIRC. More than most bad batches of caps.

I have that A7N8X-X and the XE version, but no trouble at all so far.

you also have to ensure you have the DIP switches positioned properly as well.

I actually have two of the GA-7VAXP boards and both of them work. They were a hell of a socket 462 motherboard!

They were a ton of money back in the day!!!!!

I was actually surprised that it booted immediately, unfortunately the 2800+ Barton was dead which was included with the board. Got that for practically free with a working* 6800 Ultra AGP. I did read on The Retro Web that the board is known for probably bad caps (oh noes, the capacitor plague era...), but mine works without any issues.

* the RAMDACs are toast though, image gets discoloured with a DVI-VGA adapter, but when using just DVI, no issues.

edit: Mine has also KZGs but yeah, no issues. Wonder when mine was made.

What issue didn't you know about? The RAM limitation? My guess is that it was a BIOS limitation and the "18" update fixed it.

No i dont....

i was talking about the settings for floppy.
He quoted me and started about dip switches...
He didnt mention anything else

I only see dip switches for CPU Settings
Thought we were still talking about Greenslades mobo...

The two Green ones together are the ones not working.
That 2 are for IDE RAID as mentioned before, and will only work after installing Windows and the correct Promise RAID Drivers for it. Check page 35 and 37 from the manual online

yes, and i was talking about his post about 2 floppy connectors:

I am testing all my boards out and, on the GA7VAXP two floppy connections on the board don,t work:(.

And explained thew connectors to him

And Stinger quoted my post and started about that dipswitches, what had nothing to do with my post about floppy.

There are 2 dipswitches on the board that are for Multiplier (Near CPU) and FSB (near Front panel connector)

But like i said...
What do those dip switches have to do with my post about the floppy drive?

I have 21 Retro PC's in the range 8088XT to Pentium 4, but never heard of setting dip switches for a floppy on a Socket A board. You enable it in the BIOS by setting the correct drive type, or disable it by selecting "None" ?

Oh, you are right. I wasn't referring to the DIP switches to be set correctly for the floppy drives. Sorry, I should have been a bit more clear on that.
I was referring to them when setting up the motherboard.
The DIP switches on the GA-7VAXP is for setting the front side buss speed.

Didn't mean to discuss it regarding the floppy drives.

My bad. LOL

If your CPU works normal, there is no reason to touch them. When you change settings it make your system unstable or not posting anymore.

That is very much correct
