Is it bad to have 2 crooked screws on motherboard standoffs ?

Hello

As the title says , i just can´t align 2 screws properly ( motherboard / case )

The rest seems aligned 100%

Here is a picture

Do i run the risk of getting problems or is it alright ?

The standoffs are in the correct position but the screw doesn´t seem to align 100%

Shouldn't be a problem, these screw pads are essentially dead space so you can't damage anything important by having them a bit misplaced. If your mobo doesn't wiggle around and sits tight and these two screws are rather loose than tight then you'll be fine. But will be better if you fix it. This will make your PC less likely to get rekt during transportation.

During normal use? I doubt it matters.

Its a grounding plane to reduce effects of emi whether internally or externally.

If the same issue your case isn't built to 100% precision, just leave it alone after you tighten everything down

i´ve swapped cases with my brother

testing on a dk415m and the motherboard is a tuf b550m

this is the current case standoffs ( matches the mobo )

and this is the screw i´m using

is it alright ?

Standoffs are cross threaded. Replace the standoffs with new ones and make sure your using the right screws in them before you install into the tray. Otherwise the same will happen again.

I agree on both counts. First, make sure there is a standoff in the case ONLY where there is a corresponding motherboard mounting hole. Make sure the standoffs are screwed in tightly. Then "lay" the motherboard on top of the standoffs - being careful to align the I/O port area of the motherboard with the I/O port area of the case.

Carefully start (but do NOT tighten) each mounting screw in each standoff. Then carefully tighten each screw a little bit at a time in a crisscross pattern until all are tight.

Also, understand there are different size (height) standoffs. And not all have the same thread count either. Therefore, to ensure compatibility so you don't strip the threads AND to ensure the motherboard ports align properly with the port slots and holes in the back of the case, you MUST use the standoffs that came with the case.

Oh, and don't forget to observe proper ESD precautions while handling the board.

If its not a clean fit, I would be inclined to take it out, you might get away with having no screw there at all if there is enough screwed standoffs already in place to keep board in place, as a standoff's main purpose is to keep board raised and one without a screw will still do that, leaving a messy screw in place it risks becoming loose in the case.

That is certainly "a" primary purpose. But they have several very important secondary purposes too including to ensure the motherboard is flat so there are no twisting/warping forces that might result in the formation of microfractures in the board and across circuit traces. Standoffs also provide support when inserting RAM and connectors or mounting the CPU cooler.

Another major purpose is to help establish and provide a "common" ground throughout the motherboard and across all the circuits. A common ground is essential to prevent stray voltages/differences in potentials from affecting other circuits. A common ground is also essential to prevent and suppress EMI/RFI issues from affecting the computer, or other nearby electronic devices.

So they are not just there to prevent the motherboard from shorting out against the case, but do much more and this is why it is important to use a stand-off in every location the motherboard requires one - but only those locations.

Note cases are designed to support 1000s of different motherboards of various sizes. So it is common for cases to have more standoff mounting points than motherboards having corresponding mounting holes. So double and triple check you have the correct number before applying power.

It sucks lol. If you are lucky like I was you can get in there with a pair of needle nose pliers lol..

I've come across this problem before even after matching screws to standoffs and there's no point trying to force fit.
One alternative solution is to use plastic stand offs which often given you a little more wriggle room.

What you should do is replace the clearly cross threaded risers.

Just don't force them, they can snap and then the standoff is more or less useless, at least for screwing the mobo firmly in its place.

Yup or that the risers are screwed in incorrectly.
