On Aliexpress they sell used HDDS as if they were new they show good health and few hours of use on Crystal Disk Info what do they change to show this?

Do they also remove or change important 2.5" HDD functions like power management and other "features"?

I NEVER buy storage from china. memory cards , memory sticks, hdd ssd ,usb sticks. never. not from ebay not from alx.

buy a known brand from amazon or newegg. I would never take a chance on a hdd ssd, buying from a no one who did who knows what to it.

the fact you ask wondering says it all. they do so many shady things there. flashing this, changing that. and forget about warranty. no such thing

All 2.5" or 3.5" HDDs used and sold on Aliexpress, do they change hours of use, health and other attributes and also modify or remove ou disable functions of the original firmware such as power management and other features?

HDD smart values can be reseted with tools.
I have a noname dual bay docking station that has a bug when i use the hardware cloning funcion. It can reset the smart values to zero sometimes.

But even the manufacturer can reset it and resell it as refurbished.

I'd get a HDD either as brand new OR an used one from a seller that I can trust. A random Aliexpress seller isn't one of that kind.

Ali is good for some things, storage is probably the worst thing to buy from there however.

There is evidence videos about AliExpress that buying stuff is generally a rip off and defective in some way. I remember watching a video of a guy who bought 8TB SSD only to find out it was 8x1TB SD cards in a JBOD configuration in a PCB inside. All of them were defective of course in some way.

Cheap IEMs and soldering equipment is typically fine to purchase from AliExpress, but storage is not. I wouldn't buy it for the simple reason that it'd probably get destroyed in shipping. I've had stuff from AliExpress come broken because the seller packaged it so poorly and it looked like it'd been drop-kicked.

I bought a 2.5" HDD on Aliexpress and it is inside an enclosure case. I know it is used, but most of the 2.5" HDDs sold on Aliexpress are used but show 2 hours of use and good health on crystaldiskinfo. What do they do?

Do these Aliexpress sellers also modify, remove or disable important functions within the firmware such as power management or other features, or do they use firmware from another HDD model?

Quite frankly, I would not buy a bag of dog poop from them, as I would be afraid it had been regurgitated/recycled by another animal first or contaminated with ANUTHA 'Rona-style infection before they packed it for shipping... :D

Ching it, ying it, ding it, ping it, bling it, schwing it....shall I go on ??

Why AliExpress? You're Brazilian, aren't you? Especially with the dollar being as high as it currently is.

If you're broke, just go on Mercado Livre and buy some cheap new old stock HDDs locally, a bunch of them if you have to. New, not refurbished.

they are very shady. they do alot of mods to hardware. lots of lying on specifications too. go buy that hdd. you need to get burnt once or twice to wipe that naive mindset and realize who youre dealing with. ive been burned too many times and know what to and what not to buy. storage isnt a red flag, its a black flag.

also with the amount of espionage coming from china as of late, I dont trust anything pc from them. period. ill buy from known name brands (amazon newegg) and made in china they make, but I wont buy from sellers online there. I dont trust them for a millisecond

I think graphic cards are also problematic.
I agree. they do all sorts of stuff there. flashing modding...whatever. I wouldnt touch their pc gear. its that theyre so shady. and those creppy YT chnnels trying to push their junk is hilarious. a few channels I have blocked. its so obvious they send them free stuff and want hype to get people to buy

I dont trust them for a millisecond

Like I said in the other thread where you asked the same question. The odds are much lower that they modify these settings, it will have no impact on the perceived value of the drive. Using firmware from a different model is almost guaranteed to break the drive, so that is also unlikely. But cheaters will cheat. So there are always exceptions.

What they will do is modify drives to report false capacity, and reset smart values to make a used drive look like a new drive.

Is there any analysis on the web done on these 2.5" HDD drives purchased on Aliexpress showing what they change and whether functions such as power management, parking and features are disabled?

Why take a risk? Is AliExpress the only website you can buy storage from?

Not that I am aware of. And once again. why would they change settings such as power management? There is absolutely no money gained by doing so. And these people are in it to earn money. Not waste time messing with settings

I understand then that they do not disable functions of the original firmware of the HDD

What method do they use to change for few hours of use and good health in drives used in large volumes of 2.5" HDDs in bulk to then sell them as if they were new?

No one can answer this. By nature of the product we have no idea what they may or may not have done. That's used drives.

What method do they use to change for few hours of use and good health in drives used in large volumes of 2.5" HDDs in bulk to then sell them as if they were new?
Even if I knew, I would not tell you because that information posted publicly can be abused.

The "just enough info to know nothing" answer is probably just leaked factory tools.

My educated guess is that they have access to factory tools that allow them to write to the S.M.A.R.T. registers in the drive firmware. Then they zero out the "correct" values to make the drive appear new.

The biggest problem is if they change disable
functionalities and features of the original firmware, an HDD without adequate head parking or without energy savings
