Hi,

First of all thank you for all voting and telling me what to do.
My personal viewpoint? I like Option A! but if i am opting to get my new Platform and i am getting new CPU why not go for Option B and refresh all my machines?
It is a bit in a hurry because the offer to return my MOBO will close soon and i can do it only because i am a good customer. Option C makes the most financial sense! Option A is a good compromise. Option B makes my machines better performing for more years.

long story short not satisfied with my X670E and my zen 4!
i talked with the retailer about returning my AORUS PRO X X670E to my retailer! I will take a 12% hit.
So the options are now:
A:
1: Upgrade to either AORUS PRO X X807E or ASUS STRIX X870E and keep my Zen 4 7700X

2: take the first step and also get the Ryzen 9800X 3d?
cost between 150€ and 700€ depending on the MOBO! benefits newer chipset better speed rams and better CPU if i select it! cons: if i get new CPU i have to keep my zen 4 without cpu!

the other options are

B: get new X870e + CPU + RAM use my ZEN 4 to replace my ZEn 3 and my Zen 3 to replace my I7-8700K (2018 PC)
Cost: around 1200€! and all 3 machines get upgraded. i am not paying for the labor though. cons: most expensive solution

C: keep the systems as they are
cost 0! benefits cheap solution

Why aren't you satisfied with your motherboard? You can just replace the CPU.

Oh hey it's you, with a plethota of problems. Did you resolve the crashes? If those are the reasons you want to change it you kinda have to determine the cause before throwing random hardware on the problem. If you get a new motherboard and CPU and the issues persist, what are you then going to do?

I said keep both, only because I'd expect your experience on a different AM5 board to be much the same. 9800X3D is too expensive for what it is anyway

Not sure what your beef is with the current system or what your expectations from the new build would be, but, generally speaking upgrading from one gen to the next is a waste of money.
The "replace the mobo with one that's almost the same" bit is especially puzzling.

No. Well unless you really need that 3 % CPU bump. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d/20.html

Use that money to buy a 5090 instead. I'm guessing selling 4090 + price of 9800X3D is not far from a 5090.

I suggest you read up on how much newer it is. Hint: It's not. It's a rebrand. You won't get better RAM speed that makes any difference in games.

RAM speeds have nothing to do with the chipset anyway (since the controller is inside the CPU). You can still get better speeds because of better wiring or signaling. To what extent, I couldn't say.

It was aimed at the OP, I still don't understand what their expectations are from the new system.

I'd guess buyers itch, I dunno lol

Anyway, upgrading CPU makes no sense if mostly 4k gaming, 5090 is the way to go. Or, just keep the money..

I voted c) to keep it

I have a similar situation.

I bought a bundle of a Ryzen 7600X + ASUS X670-P Prime Mainboard for 390€
Later I added a Intel AX210 wlan module and the metal housing for it for ~45€

  • intel wlan crashes regularly - pulls down the kernel - all work lost - happens regularly - since purchase of the hole stuff in my 2023 - (can be fixed by changing the wlan module - but it needs to disassemble the hole mainboard and pull out the mainboard)
  • only one usb port is bootable on the back / when i use by mistake other usb ports the bootable media needs to be removed and replugged to continue the booting process.
  • warm boot keeps the mainboard in an endless loop -> basically the mainboards stays frozen for longer than 20 minutes - i tested that several times -> several resets via the reset button is needed - up to 7 times -> happens much less - asus did improve a bit in past two months -> there is an uefi option where you can configure the case light to see the mainboard state; when it blinks faster it's near booting; when it blinks very slow it is before that fast blinking state.
  • sometimes i do not get an uefi update - slow or no uefi updates for security issues - this is a big flaw because i bought a asus mainboard (fact - there are lists for uefi updates, which board, when and such on the net - plesae look it up yourself) - kinda annoying when i run software encryption and the uefi has for 6 weeks no fix for the uefi bug which influence any operating system - any operating system - not only windows.
  • i paid around 150€ for the mainboard - there are no decent mainboards in that price class with equivalent features.

why c? I looked for other mainboards. You will find issues. Sometimes for certain data storage drives which will not work or other issues. I spend a lot of time looking at mainboard manuals and on different sites checking out mainboards.

Your 7700x is a very good processor. Some games may benefit now from the 9800X3d or 7800x3d.

My next board will probably be the Strix 870E-E.

That probably does not help you.

Having a hard time figuring out the decision-making here. You could just buy a new CPU. What's wrong with the motherboard? Do you need USB4? I thought that was the only difference between X670E and X870E. If your CPU isn't doing what you need it to, you can just drop a new one into the existing board.

You also didn't say what you do with your PC that is causing the upgrade itch.

Since we don't know what your “issue” we can't really recommend anything.

For those wondering, these are the threads OP made before:

It's not known if that is resolved, I'm guessing it's not and OP is wanting to throw hardware at it until it's ok.

Option D. Look at other peoples side bar specs and get the same combo of what they have. Odds are if someone's configuration is working well it might also work well for others and yourself since it's the road already traveled and essentially tested by others with a little of YMMV sprinkled in. When you start throwing high performance GPU's in the mix PSU selection for compatibility seems to be more critical to get right first over any other part so seeing how others paired their parts together is helpful and if they are reporting good experiences from the combo.
