Tripping into AM5 X670e (maybe)

So I'm installing it now and holy heck it's buggy, or something is wrong in a way I've never experienced. I haven't even been able to install Windows yet. It posts fine, but on reboots it just stops at the post screen. If I power cycle the PSU completely it boots, once. What does a Windoes install require? Reboots! Updating BIOS now, will see what happens, but even that is slow. EXPO and stuff is not running btw.

So to expand on what actually happens when I choose boot device is ... nothing. Until it restarts on its own. BIOD update didn't help.

But it's not completely locked, if I press Caps Lock it lights up after a few seconds. Have no idea what's going on.

It's AMD, you'll need to tune voltages and memory for it to be stable and boot fast. Expect to set all sub timings manually or resign yourself to long boots if you make it train every time.

Is this what AM5 is? I can't just buy RAM kits and have to tune them by hand for my computer to be able to start? Do note that it's not slow, it restarts after ten or so minutes. I have to switch the power supply switch for it to boot at all, otherwise it stops at boot and restarts after awhile. Do also note that EXPO and all that stuff is off, the RAM is sitting at 4800Mhz.

I genuinely refuse to believe I have to manually tune timings for the computer to be able to actually reboot. If it's not, AMD deserves to be out of business and I genuinely mean that.

EXPO working on Memory kits verified by Motherboard maker, if not listed you need manual memory tuning.
I get my cheap green pcb OEM microns 4800 CL40 up to 5626 Cl 36 :0 all manual.

But I'm not using EXPO.

And just confirmed, it's not slow. It get stuck on boot (not post) and restarts after about 10 minutes, and this continues until I power cycle.

??? Really? Are you saying if a user simply leaves the BIOS settings at their default settings, it is normal for them to experience Frick's issues? That's hardly right.

@Frick - can we assume the CPU and the RAM are listed on the motherboard's QVL? Or at least RAM with the same specs as listed RAM? And the BIOS firmware is updated - if needed to support that CPU and RAM.

I would have to agree. But I can't believe that is the case here either or else the big factory PC makers - those who buy CPUs in lots of 100s of 1000s or even millions - would refuse to buy them too if they had to make such changes with every board before their computers left the factory.

To me it is crazy that a Staff member would make that comment about AMD. There have been hundreds of thousands of AM5 system installed. Especially now with the 9800X3D and Black Friday. @Frick I see that you have not updated your specs so we don't know what board you are even using.

Try reset bios or update it , maybe some settings from previous user giving you issues, due at default settings your PC need work fine if all components are undamaged.

When I built my AM5 rig, it was the easiest system to setup so far. No issues at all. Hope @Frick can get to the bottom of his troubles.

No issue with ram here either but I might have paid a little more for my G.Skill because I heard people having good luck with them on AMD setups.

I would have to agree. But I can't believe that is the case here either or else the big factory PC makers - those who buy CPUs in lots of 100s of 1000s or even millions - would refuse to buy them too if they had to make such changes with every board before their computers left the factory.

Pretty sure it's on the QVL. Currently running the RAM at 4800Mhz (instead of the marketed 6000Mhz).

Anyway I'm in Windows now anyway. We'll see how things shake out.

Softbooting from Windows also requires power cycling. Using the reset button on the case does not work.

Try:

- visually inspect entire main-board for rip off components I once have resetting mainboard B550 that have missing few smds that prevent it measure power usage that lead to it reboots, take me 2 monhts to find free scheamtic and 1 h under microspoe * my first microsoldering do not look neat

- recheck all cable connections.

-unplug all drives/ USB stick.

- power on with 1 ram stick, A and B Chanel.

- unplug all case IO / including power button * you can power on board by shorting power enable pins.

- pull out CPU and take closer look on socket to check if you not miss any damage, and reinstall it back.

Ohh thanks. I'm not getting a 7800x3d, I'm getting a 7600. Will probably not overclock anyway, because getting 5.4Ghz instead of just 5.1Ghz just doesn't feel like overclocking to me. That's what you could do with a Pentium II! "With a decent AIO I feel you can probably get another 100 MHz, maybe more if you win the silicon lottery." I mean why even bother.

Going by your advertised specs it looks like it's already a done deal.

I recall by default mobos just use jedec until XMP/DOCP/EXPO is enabled. I do recall there has been a rash of ga boards being troublesome, if your system doesnt train within 10 minutes at most, you might try different ram, but if still same then an issue with mobo is very suspect

If you've updated to the latest bios then Gigabyte had already taken into account many kinds of RAM kits already on the market so sounds like the board is having a tough time deciding if MCR should be enabled or not on its own (bios code). Have you tried enabling MCR & not leaving it on auto?
