Free Games Thread

No. Quake2RTX will run on Radeon & Arc cards as well. The RayTracing performance will be lower.
Runs with GeForce 10 & 16 series as well, remember testing that with 1080 Ti ;)

I get like 40-50fps with it lol.

Wait really? How? I'm gonna have to try that.
Software RT through the shader cores combined with the GTX 16's simultaneous FP16/32 execution (at least I think it's that). Not very efficient, but it works.

Graphics are part of the enjoyment for many in video games.
They are to me as well, but not an absolutely necessary part.

I mean, I love what the creators did with Black Mesa, but that doesn't prevent me from enjoying the original Half-Life, for example.

And it really shouldn't. A good remake shouldn't replace the original unless the original was not good in the first place imo. I think the Resident Evil remakes, at least the 2nd, and 4th one, are a perfect example of Remakes imo.

Or, conversely, it should replicate the experience exactly while upgrading the graphics. Make the same experience just a little more enjoyable.

We stray from the topic though.

edit: its not a daily game, some days will be games, others just digital gifts, like wallpapers. heh my bad

It's free now? I paid a few quid for it on a discount. Dang, I want my money back! :(

yeah, I rarely buy games anymore, between humble bundle, epic, and gog giveaways, I basically have been getting everything I want. So, I just let my wishlist grow and have learned to buy nothing. lol

Heroic Launcher for Epic Games and Amazon Games means I don't have to use their junk software on my PC either, so yeah no issues at all. Free is free.

Same here, one reason for that is simply the lazy optimization of new titles. Feels like my RTX 3080 has became obsolete way quicker than any of the high-end cards before just because devs are so damn lazy (looking at you 1080 Ti, you were totally some fine wine). Games like Doom 2016 are a great example how to make a good-looking game without needing to use scaling and other crap to compensate the lazyness.

Luckily I have a HUGE amount of games on my to-do list, so no need for a GPU upgrade in a while.

What's with the GOG giveaway? I thought they were supposed to offer a free game each day up to the end of the month, but I can't see any indication of it on the website anymore.

You can find the advent calendar on the Winter Sale page. Today's (15) gift isn't enabled yet.

That's from days ago. I didn't see their offer on the 13th, yesterday, or today.

Ah I see! So it's not necessarily a game each day, that's why it's not on the main page. Interesting.

Clicking on the icon for the 13th downloaded a wallpaper pack, and the 14th is a 20% discount code for Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - Reforged.
