Oh man, when I was wrenching and a hydraulic tech, it never ended!!!!!

A lot of people don't realize how much money gets tied up in tools.

As you said, it never ends.
You got that right. I started buying Snap~On in 1976. I need to start selling this stuff. Got another 2 boxes in the back garage.

if you ever access boeing/bombardier manuals, i was the one who wrote that code..... lmao
Many moons ago I was an Avionics Systems Specialist on the F-16, so had to interpret hexadecimal at times.

what types are you working on if you dont mind to share

Dehaviland-Hawker-Sidley 125 Series 700, 800/850/XP, 900, 1000 under Textron now, Embraer Phenom 500-100, 505-300 series, soon ERJ-145/Legacy 600/Praetor 600, I believe Legacy 500 uses the same.

I am a freelance IT security consultant. Or was. I am currently under paid retainer for a legal firm. I basically do their network infrastructure and security as the head IT honcho. Needs to be done right of course because we deal with a lot of privileged records.

Some days I do almost nothing and totally work from home. Other days... are intetesting lol. But if something goes wrong its my fault so I do my best to never let it be too bad.

We had an IT onboard, he was medically retired I believe, he might have had pancreatic cancer because he passed this year. Company switched to some contract firm and its been a headache, plus most don't know to get rid of co-pilot/recall which us being pushed onto windows 10 even.

I would remove it but i dont have admin rights to do so

I'm 52 and unemployed. I worked for Motorola Solutions in their Emergency 911 div. for 16 years and figured I would retire from there. I ran the warehouse. Then they decided to move out of California and left myself and the entire operations team without a job. So here I am, 52 looking for a new job and not finding anything. I have been in warehousing for the better part of 25 years, and 22 of those years have been in leadership. Warehousing is my bread and butter and I'm sure I will find something eventually. Still, unfortunately, I am overqualified for most jobs in my area considering they want more entry-level managers coming out of school. I base that on the salaries being offered.

I am lucky though to have a wife with a fantastic job. She can support us while I look for work. So these days I'm more a stay-at-home Dad than anything.

My stuff is insured at 100,000 dollars, I'm not even sure if that's enough to cover everything these days!

Probably not man.

A person can tie up 100 grand in tooling pretty quickly anymore.

I worked on F-16A through CJ, the CJs are now CMs since the AF wont get any Gen 5 Models and I think they are foolish not to.

DOT FAA A&P Mechanic-Corporate Jet Landing Gear Overhauler. Soon to handle Medium Size Pax Jets.

Doing a lot with milling and lathing too.
FAA A&P as well. Avionics is what I do now. Previously wrenched for 12 years before switching to sparks. Also have Class A CDL with tanker and hazmat to drive the fuel trucks to fire missions. J-STD-001 certified, have secret clearance, and have done contract work overseas. US Air Force, Nato, Swedish Armed Forces, Turkish government, and some foreign private companies.

I never renewed my clearance in 2014, had no need for it. The A&P was earned in 2021 after 21 months of "school", the Avionics background gave me a huge edge over other students. I was showing other students how to use tools properly (yes there were some who never used tools before) or explaining certain material to them.

If i decided to go into avionics again Id have to sign on with honeywell or garmin etc...

When I was Engineman in the Navy we were responsible for the Captain's and Officer's Gigs and a mech was always on the boat. We had secret security clearances but I never knew it until after I got off active duty and saw it in my records after I was discharged.

Probably not man.

I have a 20 grand rider but I know that won't cover it all now.

How? I guess they just trained and treated everyone as if they had a clearance? Or they don't care and don't take it seriously? I mean I had all the same CRC training and OPSEC training you had, but clearance training was over and above and impossible not to ignore.
In the civilian world, it is impossible not to know. There are required briefings, debriefings, periodic reviews, and items which require mandatory reporting. They beat it into you over and over again. You can't even leave the country on vacation without telling someone. .... unless you are Elon.

Totally possible, even in the government like I was. I had a Secret clearance my whole career in ICE. Then one day after about 17 years I found out my boss had put me in for a Top Secret because of my duties. Apparently I had had it for a year at that time. They had used the Secret renewal interview and questionnaire from earlier in the year (shocked me that they actually were trying to save money!), and then interviewed people all the way back in my life to high school.

Warehousing used to be very good in terms of work-pay balance, but the modern obsession with cost-cutting can be felt here as well. It's basically a minimum wage job now - even being in training, stock control or management doesn't pay magnitudes more. That's why I don't have any career plans whatsoever. I'll just stick it out working as a trainer on night shifts indefinitely. I'm overqualified as well, but I don't care. This is the best work-pay balance I could ever get. I mean, there's a million things I could do instead, but all of them would involve a lot more physical work and/or stress for not a lot more money.

I'm really surprised he didn't know, because when I signed on and selected my AFSC there was a form for background checking to get that clearance.

Don't know. But theya re all getting greedy. Cost cutting.

I work at Orange. Multi-billion company international. Yeah, each country where Orange has HQ will have different budgets for sure. But they are rich. Everything in Orange is cost cutting and I don't get it.

Who owns this company? Who is the billionaire behind this mamut, who looks in their bank accounts and thinks that he no longer afford 10 yachts instead, he has a board meeting at a CEo international level and decides that cost cutting must be implemented because he, the billionaire no longer afoords 10 yachts, instead just 7.

Who cuts costs on a multi-billion company? Who looks at the money and sais...nah we must pay less employees and smaller salaries, cuz I was super rich and now I am just rich.???

That's not just Orange. That's literally every single company around the world right now.

Who owns this company?
Largest stakeholder I could find is the Government of France, and various investment groups. It's a publicly traded company. So the ownership is most likely spread among thousands or more people, with IRAs and 401(k)s, or investment portfolios.

That cost cutting is paying for workers' retirement.

It was 1973. It probably meant Navy Intel and/or FBI investigated backgrounds. Even then we had guys who got the option of jail or enlisting. I knew 2 in boot camp who owned up to it. Different world then.

While in high school (IT), I worked a lot of seasonal jobs, first started as a waiter, then became a kitchen assistant, then a cook, then a pizza "chef". (my cooking experience brought me a wife )
After that, I worked 5 years in a company that produced insulation made from PE, worked my way up the ladder from a regular worker to a shift manager. Later I left that company because it became unbearable.
Finally got a job in IT, starting position, minimum wage, was promised to get a better paycheck. After 3-4 months I got praised by my manager how efficient, hard-working I was etc., was promised a big promotion that never happened. Left after a year.
Now I'm basically a "know it all do it all" IT/video/audio/digital marketing guy in this smaller company (10 employees), but I basically work from home 90% of the time, I've automated most of the stuff that I do(I work 15-30 minutes a day) and I get paid a lot. Fingers crossed it lasts
Some of my "art" as the wife would call it

So these days I'm more a stay-at-home Dad than anything.
take the entry-level job. quit when you find something better.
You can do the entry-level that they want. Accept the salary and add to the table that for the same money on a daily basics you will be bring to work the 25 years of experience.

The only reason why they will reject, if they really wanna see kids working around, young faces and they got a problem with seniors

I've been in IT for about 14 years now. The last 4 in the ITS dept at one of the top U's in my state. Great gig, great people, low pay but excellent benefits.
