Well sh*t, Manjaro seems to be working fine. Is there a chance HW acceleration is not working on the live boot distro?
I need to know before I make a Win11 setup USB and reinstall everything on an external drive
It's KDE right? There should be an option in the control center to turn that on or off and select the render.

Yes, it's KDE Plasma. Just to be sure, after booting from USB, I selected to live-boot with open-source drivers.
Nevertheless, Firefox has HW acceleration enabled and it seems to be working fine, no artifacting whatsoever, not even on Youtube, which is intensive for the iGPU. I guess it's time to test with a fresh installation of Windows on an external SSD.
Also, not gonna lie, Manjaro seems snappy as hell compared to W11

Since this thread is up again, got my Strix B550XE installed last night. Just like my old XE, this one booted at 1933 1:1 with 4 sticks running my old settings. Had to work today, but testing it now and just feels like I am wasting my time because it’s stable lol..

I had to watch BZ’s video on it, not sure why he had such a problem with it. I would contact him but I am shy around strangers and celebrities..

@freeagent Is there a question here or a problem..? I also have 4 sticks, it was a nightmare to even get XMP 3200 working on 5600X(had to play with the DRAM and some other voltage), 5800X3D seems fine with them.

Nope, just business as usual :)

Still want that 5950X though, only because I am an idiot.
I'm glad everything works as intended
Are you doing a lot of multi-core stuff? I was able to get quite a performance boost by editing the BCLK on my 5800X3D. Currently running at 104 MHz. It's not much, but it's honest work  (you can get similar to 5800X performance in rendering)

Thanks man, I killed my first XE with the slip of a screwdriver.. paid a lot for it at the time, this time was only half price lol.

I have had good luck on B550 with my Asus boards. The XE and my son -F can rock 2000 1:1 stable on my 5600X, but X570 seems to get cranky over 1866 1:1.

I will be moving to AM5 in the new year, I just had to have another XE before they were all gone.

Edit:

Old screenshot from my 5600X and first XE..

Sh*t happens to the best of us... :(
I never tried to play with the IF clock and DRAM, but I always kept it set to 1:1, so my max right now is 3328 MHz or 1664 MHz without DDR.

I still have an old 1700X which would have been perfect to use for the wife's PC, but there's no way to get a used AM4 board for a normal price where I'm from, so I understand your issue with barely getting a board for a normal price :kookoo:

AM5.... Upgrading to 7 or 9 series? :rockout:

Edit: Still "working" on the son/daughter part, all I can see is more PC parts to buy

Edit2: That looks like some insane performance for a 5600X. Especially the memory frequency and timings, wow! My "little" brother inherited it from me, when I upgraded to the 5800X3D so I think it's time to tweak some settings :pimp: He's still using my X370 board that I bought with my 1700X :rockout:

Tough call to be honest, I love playing with multicore stuff, mostly in it for the big boost clocks, but X3D is pretty nice too. And now you can overclock them which I have been complaining about since it came to AM4.. gotta say though, I got into AM4 right at the end, and its been terrific. Smooth sailing the entire time.

Big boost clocks are all the same, AMD or Intel... After a certain temperature/power limit, everything downclocks...
But yes, AMD has been way, way more efficient since the Ryzen launch.

(I mostly game so this is my point of view, I'm very well aware that AMD has been king in multi-core efficiency since Ryzen, not counting in the X3D chips which are meant for gaming)

I've had a 1700X, which lasted me very well, until the 5 series came out. Since I wasn't doing any rendering and such, it was the best choice for gaming. 3 or 4 years later after I got the AM4 platform, I was still able to use the same motherboard and memory, INSANE! It was a huge difference in games when I got the 5600X, 30-50%, and then, after some time, since I was not planning on upgrading to AM5 and DDR5, I bought the 5800X3D for approx. 300€, which was a STEAL like 2 years ago. In most games? Again, basically a 30% boost and 2 more cores to play with when I'm rendering videos with Sony Vegas.
So basically, for the past 6 years, I could have had the same motherboard and 200% the performance.

I have my 5900X boosting to 5150 on the light stuff, and 4500-4700 for heavy to light MC stuff. She is a ripper.

Soooo... Why do you want a 5950X then? That kind of high clocks on the 12-core or way lower clocks on a 16-core... I mean, sure, there's theoretically more power, but you'd need a dedicated AC to cool such a high-clocked 5950X, if it was running 5900X frequencies... What the hell are you using it for bro? :toast:

Because it can do 5250 :D

Clicking on websites, playing games, running benchmarks.. you know a total waste :D
I feel you... I'm the same... Willing to sacrifice 25-30% more power consumption for 5-10% more performance? Hell yes :pimp:
Been doing that to my 6800XT... Looking at the TPU benchmarks, I'm literally sitting at 7900XT perf... While using >320W... (MPT, replaced thermal pads, PTM7950 on die) and 2 140mm fans below the GPU)

5900X is a 143w part.. I can get 260w out of her with PBO :)
Holy sh*t :O
What are you cooling that with?

I see you have a Thermalright on your 5800X3D... I was a bigger cheap-skate than you and I bought a Peerless Assassin :peace:

Gets the job done, AC-MX4, never going over 70°C

Edit: I believe my 5600X was a 65W part, conservative power consumption after all my tinkering on AMD Adrenalin(which is known to lie a bit) was around 100W so yeah... I'm starting to understand what you're doing with your 12-core

I have 2x FC140, PA120SE ARGB, PS120SE ARGB, PS120EVO, Ultra 120 Extreme Rev. something Black, the original TRUE from 2007, Le Grand Macho RT, True Spirit 140 Power, XP-90, Aqua Elite 360, Frozen Edge 360, and a few M.2 sinks.. I rotate them all now and then, except the TRUEs, they get no love.

Edit:

XP-90 is way too old to use on anything.

I considered myself a fan of TR... Now I can see that I am merely a bot
I'd love to go the FE360 way, but... I'm still kinda scared to put water in my PC
Are you happy with the cooler, how long have you had it? It costs around 65 €(70 $) where I'm from and that's an insane price for a 360 AIO.

I bought the Aqua Elite in Oct. 2023, and I used it almost exclusively until May 2024 when I got the Frozen Edge. I used the AE with different fans, stock ones are ok, but only move at 1500RPM, I think I used 2000RPM fans on it, yeah 2x TL-B12 V1 and a TL-C12 pro pushing, and 2x TL-K12 pulling.. I used the stock TL-B12 V2 fans and 2x TL-K12 on the Frozen Edge until I tried my T30s on it. Wasn't really worth it. The stock ones are fine..

Literally the only reason I bought them was because they were SO much cheaper then everyone else that had a name that I had to try it. I think I had pretty respectable temps, at the expense of noise. But if you run it normally, they are pretty quiet. Would I recommend one? Yeah.. but just know that I was anti AIO before, I had the original H100 and it left me sour :)

Don't mind @freeagent, he is a special case when it comes to TR.

I've been using AMD for over a decade now, multiple PCs, multiple laptops (iGPU and dGPU from AMD), never saw this so it's really driving me nuts, usually I'm able to fix all my sh*t :(
I'm gonna make a bootable Linux USB, are you recommending any distro?

I mean, it's an option, I have full control over the laptop, I'm the SysAdmin in our company but I don't have the time to meticulously backup everything and then put it back up, it's just easier to swap the drive and try
Have you tried 10?

Wanting a solid 16core CPU makes you an idiot?!? In what universe? Or did I miss something?
My only concern is now that its the end of the run, will it still boost like my 5900X? I dont know..

I bought all of my CPU's at launch, or pretty darn close. I think the best samples are the first ones..
