Yes, they're happening on the screen all the time and I can screenshot them  It has nothing to do with the display for sure. 120/60 Hz doesn't make a difference, they start appearing 2-3 seconds after the image is still and just keep "growing" until I move my mouse over them or scroll for example.

Update and/or roll back graphics drivers.

If that doesn't help I would try a clean Windows install.

You could also try to reset BIOS values to default/auto.

This has been happening with the laptop since I got it. It came without an OS so I installed Win11, all the necessary drivers from AMD/Nvidia site, BIOS settings are stock.
1. Fresh Windows
2. Quite a few different AMD display drivers
3. Chipset drivers installed too
4. Never played around with BIOS settings

I just reminded myself that the only thing I didn't yet try is using the AMD Cleanup Utility.... :banghead:
Will download latest Win11 display driver, boot into safe mode, do the cleanup thingy and try again.
Will report in a few minutes.

Just to be clear: it doesn't bother me that much, but when I'm using Paint.net the artifacting is unbearable and I literally can't see what I'm doing, will post a screeenshot (or not, if the cleanup works)

Edit: It's a laptop, not a PC

Huh. If it is doing that new, I would try to RMA it, if possible. Save you the headache.

Perhaps a HWiNFO screenshot with your CPU voltages visible could be helpful. Also, do you have XMP/EXPO enabled?

Assuming the cleanup doesn't work of course.

This is what Paint.net looks like. The white spots are where I moved my mouse:

If I minimize the app and open it again, they are gone.

1. Do you have a dGPU on that laptop?
2. If no, what does the GPU Core Voltage do when you have a 3D application running?
3. If yes, try to disable it temporarily and run a 3D application. Preferably one that puts a relatively heavy load on GPU.

Yes, the laptop has an RTX3050. 3D applications on both GPUs work fine.
I was playing Postal 2 and I noticed that it was dropping frames, that's when I found out that DirectX 8 uses the iGPU by default, so I know the iGPU works okay with 3D. The only problem seems to be static 2D objects and it's driving me crazy :kookoo:

Image sharpening gone wild...

Check if you have any settings related to 2D image sharpness in the GPU control panel(s), then try to change them and see if it has any effect.

(but whatever your gpu is smoking, I want some of it for my Photoshop)

I reinstalled the drivers so all sharpness settings are disabled, both for iGPU and dGPU.
I just noticed I can disable HW acceleration in Paint.net which of course solves the issue. Artifacting still very much present in Windows apps and web browser

Is there a way to modify the 2D clocks for iGPU? Maybe they're too high/low? Also, my BIOS is fairly unlocked, I can basically change all the voltages, maybe we can tinker with something there too.

I would be curious to see the iGPU voltage under heavy load. That .7v looked perhaps slighty low, but I am no expert with iGPUs

This is what it looks like:

Edit: I just noticed there's a BIOS update, will try this too (v2.07 to v3.05)
Edit2: It didn't help

Edit3: HWiNFO shows effective iGPU clock to have a minimum of 28,6 MHz... That can't be right, right?
I'll try running Postal 2 on the iGPU and log the sensors.

Edit4: I'm attaching some log files. Postal 2 is running on iGPU, no problems. I set HW acceleration in Paint.net to AMD and to Nvidia, both produce artifacts which is very weird.

What version of Windows 11 did you use and where did you get it?

Made a USB stick directly with MediaCreationTool so it's from Microsoft itself, it's not some "tweaked" pirated version :/
I've had this laptop for almost a year and currently it's updated to 23H2, 22631.4602. It's been doing this since the beginning.

The only two things I can think of is that you'd got a hardware problem or an OS problem. At this point, the hardware problem is not something you can solve. However if it's an OS issue, a wipe and reinstall might solve the problem. I would recommend, if you have a spare SSD, grab a copy of 24H2 and install to test.

I need to get myself another M.2 drive to swap it out with the one currently in the laptop and try to reinstall Windows then. If that doesn't help, it's a hardware issue which may be solved by tinkering with the settings. It's my work laptop so wiping it is not an option

You could also try running Linux from an USB-drive. Do your typical stuff and see if it's still happening.

This very much looks like a software-problem to me. Might be wrong of course. But from my experience the AMD-drivers for Linux are mostly superior to the ones for Windows.

I've been using AMD for over a decade now, multiple PCs, multiple laptops (iGPU and dGPU from AMD), never saw this so it's really driving me nuts, usually I'm able to fix all my sh*t :(
I'm gonna make a bootable Linux USB, are you recommending any distro?
Ah. Well, there is that.
I mean, it's an option, I have full control over the laptop, I'm the SysAdmin in our company but I don't have the time to meticulously backup everything and then put it back up, it's just easier to swap the drive and try

Agreed, thus the suggestion. You don't need a big drive, a 128GB unit would work.
I just remembered I have an external USB 3.0 HDD/SSD reader so I can basically just install Windows there. Will try the bootable Linux USB first and then a fresh install of Windows on an external SSD.
tbh, anything will do. Try Manjaro for example. https://manjaro.org/products/download/x86

Edit: If you need Secure Boot, use Fedora. https://fedoraproject.org/workstation/
Downloading with Plasma KDE. Create bootable with Rufus and that's it, right?

Rufus is excellent. Linux Mint is also a good option for testing with a LiveDrive.
Mirror for Manjaro is slow af (6 MB/s), but I believe I'll be able to test in the next 15-20 minutes (Rufus making the bootable USB) :)

Well, Fedora actually ships a Media Writer. Maybe easier. Manjaro, Arch, Garuda etc. I always download via torrent. Fastest way.

Yeah, Rufus will do.

Well sh*t, Manjaro seems to be working fine. Is there a chance HW acceleration is not working on the live boot distro?
I need to know before I make a Win11 setup USB and reinstall everything on an external drive
