Just please, don't extrapolate your (well funded) hatred against fanboyism onto my posts.
I am just trying to say.. does it really matter to you what people buy?

I know it does not bother me in the slightest that you have an AMD card.

Does it bother you that I run Nvidia? Because I know for a fact it does bother some people here.

And that is what I am getting at. That guy running the 7900XTX is loving it, and that is awesome. I would never knock him for that. Just like that guy over there enjoying his 4080 non S. He loves his card, does everything he wants it to.

Does not affect my system stability whatsoever, so don't let it affect yours.

Guys can complain about prices all they want, heck I had to settle for midrange, do you think I wanted to buy midrange? No. But that is what I could afford at the time.

"expensive" is a relative term. for a lot of people, spending 1000/1500/2000 on a gpu isn't a big deal, if they really want it. Same as it's not a big deal to add another rare car/bike to their collection if they find one they like.

No. I just don't like the "I always buy the latest, shiniest, expensivest toy out there which elevates me way above you mere peasants" attitude. If you have a 4090 and you're planning to get a 5090 for whatever reason, that's great. Just don't don't come here to brag about it and shove into other people's faces how much better you are, because you are not. Your spending habits don't make you better or worse than others.

It does not matter if that smugness comes from a 4090 or a 7900 XTX owner. I just don't like it.

Guys can complain about prices all they want, heck I had to settle for midrange, do you think I wanted to buy midrange? No. But that is what I could afford at the time.
I started moving down towards midrange during the Pascal era. Resolutions keep increasing, but as long as you're fine with 1440/1080, midrange is more than enough. :)

Buying expensive things and bragging about it are two different things.

Nobody should be upset over the price of the halo card which is always going to be priced crazy.

The 5090 isn't a halo product though, IMO. They have replaced the Titans, that is true, but today what with RT and 4K and stuff they're just a fast high-end GPU, which is a different thing than a halo product.

Spend your money all you want, just don't expect me to praise you like a god. Not everybody who doesn't own a 4090 is envious. Some people just want to live in peace. Not everything is about "other people".

People buy expensive toys to enjoy them, not to cry over the money they sank into them. It really sounds like the cliche "you problem".
Then enjoy them they should. :) And not brag about them on a forum. We're here to discuss tech, not to measure our (penises) wallets.

That's all the better! This is what brings me joy in PC gaming - being happy about running games on whatever hardware. :)

This is what gaming is really about. Sure we all have our hardware preferences, it is up to manufacturers to sway our opinion, and we just vote with our wallet at the choices that are available.

I would have no qualms buying an AMD card if it does everything that I am used to from Nvidia. So every time they have a card on the horizon, I am hopeful. I was with Ati first, and would be nice to go back one day.

I totally agree. :)

And I have no qualms buying an Nvidia card again if I don't end up being overcharged for features I don't need, and if they show a bit more love to Linux with driver support (maybe go open-source like AMD?).

Sometimes people look at my system specs and conclude that I'm an AMD fan, forgetting that I also have two HTPCs that are both Intel + Nvidia, and a netbook with a dual-core Celeron in it. :D

I think most of the people defending nVidia's practices, and not only, forget one thing.
I bought my card, an RTX 3080 for 800$. Now, after more than 4 years, I would expect that for the same budget, to buy a new card which, based on the previous experience, would be 100% faster than my existing card. That was always my upgrade path.
Now, nGreedia is ready to launch the 5000 series, and by the look of it, with 800$, I can only buy a low-end card, something like a 5060, which in the end, is only a couple of percents faster than my 3080 card.
Do you guys understand the issue??

You will be filtered to 5070Ti. Should be insanely strong. If my 4070Ti is hanging with 3090 for most things, then the card should be ok.

Or, you can save your pennies for a little bit longer like most people will.

Leave them alone, it's their money. Quit picking on them, lol.

The general feeling I get is that many of these hardcore Nvidia guys (buy the best no matter the price / if it's green, then it's in my machine) are under the impression that we can't afford to spend money on a 4080 or a 4090 etc. I can buy a 4090, that is no problem. I don't because it's pretty low IQ.

It's a card from 2020 don't forget, and Ray Tracing has evolved too, now most new games have Path Tracing. Also, it suggests tuning it off because the performance hit has always been high. Iirc, a lot of games that ran RT perfectly fine on my 3080 had it off if you used optimized settings in GFE, but used 4K DSR. I think the way this is set up is still to priozitize resolution over settings.
June 2021 for the 3080 Ti. Yeah I've gone ahead and turned settings on and the appropriate DLSS. Runs fine-ish for most. Biggest issue I have run into at 4k is the 12GB frame buffer. Witcher 3 especially hates that on my system and crashes the PC or slows to a slide-show. Typical out of VRAM behavior. I should have just ponied up for a 3090 and then I wouldn't be having any problems, but here we are.

Back in the 2000s I played CS Source with a couple friends and they told me their PC cost like 4000usd, I was like wow that's awesome (I also bought all the fastest GPUs I could afford back then too).

Now we have envious people try to mock others for spending their own money :kookoo:
My first computer, 2000, $1100 my brother built. Had a $55 ECS motherboard and a hacked copy of Win98. I had to get all the peripherals. Too expensive. Now I'm in debt. Crashing Windows once a week and finally learning how to put it back. Reformat and reinstall. Put drivers back and reinstall software. I can still hear my brother yell "What've you downloaded this time?"
Now I got ten grand invested in my Flight Sim alone and some people think I should be concerned about a little ol' video card's price. Be advised. I ain't looking for second place.

H/P love over here :rockout:

Back when they used good Asus boards :D
I bought my wife an ASUS Desktop AC51 in 2013 and I robbed the board and i7 from it and made a decent computer with my old totally aluminum Cooler Master Praetorian case , but can't upgrade to W11 but it's working good as I type. It's funny listening to the HDD clicking and tickin.

I don't think there's much of "defending" a company. Prices are higher, consumers who used to pay for a product line before now have to spend more (like you), and those customers ofc don't like that.
Issue is that the broad customer has changed. GPUs are now more valuable since they can do stuff other than games. Whereas previously GPUs were bought mostly by gamers, now there are other people demanding those devices, and thus pricing rises.
There's not much that can be done. Of course there will still be some gamers with deep pockets that can still afford keeping their hobby, but your average gamer will need to downgrade, while prosumers buy those products happily since it's still cheap from their point of view.
The current pricing scheme so far seems to be acceptable for the overall market, thus nvidia can keep at it, much to the dismay of the gaming crowd.

The "issue" is that nvidia is not catering to the gaming crowd anymore, and that's ok.

RTX 5090 512bit vs 256bit RTX 5080

RTX 5080 looks even worse than RTX 4080 256bit vs 384bit RTX 4090

Nvidia's trend to cut down lower tier gpus are contiuming (2000$+ gpu may be the best value from nvidia again) from a logical point of view it is completely :kookoo: As low/mid/high end gpus are going towards higher prices and lower performance. RTX 5090 is more expensive but also faster (more performance gains) than RTX 5060Ti, RTX 5070, RTX 5070Ti, RTX 5080!

RTX 40 Series was bad but looks like RTX 50 Series will be even worse than that!
