AMD Debuts Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 Powered by RDNA 4, and FSR 4

It just saddens me to see no competition. XTX is like 23% slower than 4090 in 4K. Now add at least additional 30% for 5090 and you're at XTX being 50% slower. Can AMD really make a comeback next gen? They'd need like 70-80% faster GPU than XTX in order to compete with 6090, while Nvidia will only need to add additional 20-30% on top of 5090 to beat them again. Sad days for dGPU market and our wallets

While 23% slower is true a future AMD card would need to be 30% faster Than the 7900XTX just to slightly edge out the 4090 and then if you look at RT it would have to be nearly 100% faster just to catch up....

They don't need to compete with the 5090 though. The problem amd has was made pretty obvious again from their presentation. Instead of announcing the pricing for the gpus, they are waiting for nvidia and then undercut them by 9.99$. They are not trying to compete but to squeeze you out of every penny possible. Nothing but their own greed is what stopped them from pricing the 9070xt at 349 / 399.

I'm pretty confident the prices won't be lower than ampere. Maybe the 5080 will land a bit cheaper than the 4080, but even that is highly unlikely. Regarding the 5090, oh boy I can see it at 1.999.

And tbf, the prices are warranted. When there is no other company on the entire planet that can make anything close to competitive with your products..

I expect the 5080 and 5090 to both be more expensive than ADA what I'm more curious is how they price the 70 series cards and how good they actually are.... If they both have 4060ti like gain's I doubt prices will change much.

This is a very interesting chart.
AMD considers 7900XTX as lower than even the simple 4080. 4060 Ti is higher than 7700XT. Wasn't expecting this. Top 9070 model will be at the same level as 4070 Ti. 9060 will be close to 7800XT but not better than 4060Ti. If this chart is not a chart done randomly, but a chart that is based on performance numbers, I believe this is what we should expect from the new cards. The chart also looks to be based (if it is based) on numbers that also take in consideration RT performance seriously. Based on TPU's charts, 7700XT is faster than 4060 Ti. Here it is slower, so I guess AMD will market the 9000 series also based on it's RT performance. It will probably promote that RT performance, combined with FSR 4. They will be copying Nvidia's marketing.
If we consider what most are saying about AMD's pricing being 15% lower than Nvidia's we can also come to conclusions about where these cards will be positioned. The top 9070 model will be 15% cheaper that 4070 Ti and the top 9060 model 15% cheaper than 4060 Ti.

I am sure they do. They had another option though - don’t fucking say anything until you are ready. That’s how NV does things. That’s how, surprisingly, Intel did things. Anything else looks amateurish and hiding this away in the margins for the press without giving Radeon any space in the main presentation just exacerbates this look. That’s why I said it’s a MARKETING failure. Marketing has been Radeons biggest enemy for years now. They have pretty damn good products, all things considered, but they have absolutely no idea how to present and sell people on them.

AMD are showing they still are unwilling to compete or need a huge management shakeup because they are clueless as to why only fanboys want their GPUs

They needed to come out with specs and pricing that will massively undercut anything Nvidia can come out with but failed to do so. They'll likely repeat last gen and only the fanboys will buy AMD's garbage

I still think they should be more confident and not wait for Nvidia.... Yes they are dropping the high end but it's not like they've been doing good in the mid range for a long time either especially now that the mid range starts around 400 usd but really is 500-700 usd these days.... Their goal just seems to break even so that they can fund gpu development for their apu and console business to me and hopefully make a profit in that.

I think it's got to do with risk averse mentality. Trump's tariffs, recession looming in Europe and China, conflicts which could easily interrupt global trade if they escalate any further so everyone is playing safe, postponing longer term investments and trying to milk AI cows till the last drop with Nvidia leading the way.

Wow the comments are apocalyptic. I would be sad for AMD except the vast majority here are disappointed that AMD doesn’t have RDNA4 ready to help drive down Nvidia prices so that they can afford a 5000 GPU. Sorry ladies and gents but Huang is gonna get all your disposable income for now. Lol!

A third of this country is broke. Another third is dumb enough to fork over whatever is asked and the rest just want what they pay for. I'm in that last camp and there's just no agreement anywhere. Complete loss of communication and everything.

I want a 9090 XT

And I don't. This is very obviously done as a stop gap generation on the way to UDNA where enthusiast/halo parts genuinely make sense. The only reason I'm still interested in the 9070XT is to see the performance of that new media engine. If it's good enough to replace main units for every NVENC user out there, great. Otherwise I'm gonna give the 7900XT another shot. Normally I'd pick up the 7800XT and call it a day but every time I turn around the prices jump $10 and I'm not playing that game today.

I'm surprised Tim hasn't been hired by Nvidia yet.

I was expecting a GPU announcement and hopefully a GPU partner announces something, but no matter what AMD would've announced it would have gotten dragged through the dirt anyway.

Seems to me that the main thing keeping AMD's graphic division afloat right now (and that is no small thing, of course) are the console wins. Keep non-releasing and underwhelming like this, not to mention leaving work to console partners because your upscaler is not up to par, and that is not going to last forever, either.

I think 9070XT will do ok, providing they can get them out the door at a decent price.

Jokes aside, when he had a meltdown over Starfield (he released 3 hit pieces against AMD based on a RUMOR) was when I stopped watching their content.

A product can be bad and you can say it, but when the reviews and opinions are biased just because, then its wrong.

People are listening to your fair and unbiased guidance.

But I feel that they changed for the worse after the Ngreedia blackout fiasco. Especially Tim.
