They don't need to compete with the 5090 though. The problem amd has was made pretty obvious again from their presentation. Instead of announcing the pricing for the gpus, they are waiting for nvidia and then undercut them by 9.99$. They are not trying to compete but to squeeze you out of every penny possible. Nothing but their own greed is what stopped them from pricing the 9070xt at 349 / 399.
I think you’re being unreasonable here. Unless you know what it cost AMD to design, develop, build, and support these cards, then you have no idea at what price “greed” kicks in and what just covers the cost of doing business. We all want cheap goods, but as far as I know, none of us here run a Fortune 500. What I do know is that, in my personal life, I want to earn the most possible for my efforts. Should I ask my employer to pay me less so I can bring them more value, or do I do the job at the going rate?

I mean, lots of people listen to their opinions, their benchmarks results and their "industry expertise" like many do when they come here for the TPU reviews so I think they should conduct themselves in a better and more professional way.

So far the only thing I have to say is I'm hesitantly curious to see what FSR 4 is like. These GPU's look DOA if they aren't price competitive. Which it seems like AMD is taking a terrible approach at competing price wise with this generation. Are they really gonna wait till Nvidia announces their stuff? I bet they're gonna do the bare minimum of undercutting.

Wow this site is becoming such a nesting ground for click bait replies and trolling. That said; it’s not exclusive to TPU, I just wish it were moderated.

For a user like myself, this product doesn’t appeal to me as I gravitate toward higher end products. I would rather buy a console like the PS5 Pro than this product or a Steam Deck just to use remote play at 4K from my other PCs.

AMD seems to be going all in on shareholder desires versus core business, and it really is a shame that we are going back to the 5700 XT days for a generation. I am still anxious for a review from W1z.

I do find it somewhat strange to see so many users be outright against this product if they are interested in midrange. You’re going to get a price competitive product with better ray tracing and good upscaling. In the same token, continuing to buy Nvidia at inflated costs will not help your desire for price competitive options when Nvidia is controlling anywhere between 60%-80% of the market.

Ultimately Nvidia will destroy the market if marginal to verbatim monopolistic practices continue. The pricing will drive more and more to their cloud service or other cloud services which are using their products in server racks. This scenario is shareholder desired because they generate subscription revenue versus one time purchases.

Seems to me that the main thing keeping AMD's graphic division afloat right now (and that is no small thing, of course) are the console wins. Keep non-releasing and underwhelming like this, not to mention leaving work to console partners because your upscaler is not up to par, and that is not going to last forever, either.
Their GPU µArch is pretty nice, and seems to be doing well for consoles, and is also great for iGPUs.
Their CDNA lineup is also making them some cash due to the AI craze and Nvidia not being able to supply all their customers.

I'd say they're just not that invested in the consumer dGPU segment since they have other products with better margins that they can focus their fab allocation on.

Jeez, talk about underwhelming. No new info, just confirmation that yes this generation they are leaving all the high end buyers high and dry, and they cant even convincingly beat their own hardware from the last generation. This coy 'waiting int he wings to see what nvidia does' is going to backfire so hard, you need CONFIDENCE in your product, if you meekly announce them like this then become reactionary to nvidia, you're informing consumers that this whole lineup is a dud before it even takes off.

I have absolutely 0 faith their RT performance has actually improved at all. rDNA3 was supposedly "much improved" and delivered nothing.
Wow the comments are apocalyptic. I would be sad for AMD except the vast majority here are disappointed that AMD doesn’t have RDNA4 ready to help drive down Nvidia prices so that they can afford a 5000 GPU. Sorry ladies and gents but Huang is gonna get all your disposable income for now. Lol!
Yeah I guess you're right. All us AMD owning people who want AMD to actually compete are actually just paid Nvidia boogeymen! But int he end you get what you wanted, AMD without discounts in a distant 2nd place. Yay?

How many commenters here whose contribution contains some variant of "xxx or DOA" are honestly cross-shopping AMD? I'm genuinely curious.

(Though even if responding in the affirmative, I probably won't believe you.)

Hi. Before my 6800xt, I've also had dual Vega 64s and a RX 480.

the number of times I have been accused of lying about my GPU, or my interest in future AMD GPUs, has been astonishing. Funny enough, Nvidia users dont usually accuse me of lying.

That's good, however I can get an RX6600 for $270CAD, how will the fps/$ compare?

I'll admit to not taking full inventory of to whom my comment applied, but you I believe. What galls me (an owner of multiple cards from both camps, plus an ARC card) is the amount of negativity every AMD launch article generates. It's like 80%* of commenters want them to fail.

I think AMD's made a good call here.

They don't need to be at the top of the GPU performance figures to make money.

I don't know anybody personally that has paid or would pay more than £600 on a GPU. £600 is an astronomical amount for the single component of a system with the shortest working lifespan. It's already a price point that is outside of the scope of a first time PC builder, or a pre-made buyer. Those people are looking at 4060's and 7600 xt's in the sub £300 market.

Personally I think top end GPU's are loss leaders. There's no way the components and RND that goes into a £2000 card that is going to sell a miniscule volume is ever going to make money. It's sole purpose is to carry the branding. Nvidia have already won the brand war.

So AMD stepping back a little, and concentrating on cards that are actually going to sell in volume, and make profit. I'm all for that. It makes AMD stronger, It lets them lower the cost of their cards by not wasting the huge amounts of money needed to produce cards that simply don't move from the shelves. So if it works, I should get a better deal as well (in the future).

High end buyers are going to buy from Nvidia anyway, why waste R&D on cards the media and everyone will just bash on?
you need CONFIDENCE
AMD could have all the confidence in a presentation, doesn't mean s%^& if people will just go "eww it doesn't compete with nvidia it doesn't have DLSS hard pass AMD is dead".
I think AMD needs to keep quiet about their GPU's especially if they have something competitive, they can't win a price war against Nvidia.
Yeah I guess you're right. All us AMD owning people who want AMD to actually compete are actually just paid Nvidia boogeymen! But int he end you get what you wanted, AMD without discounts in a distant 2nd place. Yay?
As opposed to AMD with significant discounts losing money and still in a distant second place. The only reason a majority of people in this thread want AMD to compete is so they can hope Nvidia cards will be cheaper, but they won't be.
Repeat after me: "RTG margins are roughly 2-3%".

They are not, not at this point. Not for NVidia, at least. They don’t do “loss leading” anyway nowadays - it’s pointless when you are already the dominant player. The 4090 has outsold the entire 7000 series combined, if we judge by Steam statistics. Now, granted, we will never know how many of those were bought as AI accelerators on the cheap, but fact still stands.

Still, going for a Polaris strategy might work for AMD, no doubt. That was the last time they managed to claw back some market share, so precedent is set for reasonably priced “mass appeal” cards selling well.

Try not to sound so defeated. AMD is doing ok, they are pulling their balls together.

Its hard to be excited when the strategy is bizarre. I was expecting something similar to what they did for Polaris and yet its just.. this. I'm hesitantly interested but I'm not really holding out too much hope atp despite how much I wish to see them succeed. I'm just not excited.

Still, going for a Polaris strategy might work for AMD, no doubt. That was the last time they managed to claw back some market share, so precedent is set for reasonably priced “mass appeal” cards selling well.
God, I wish. Something like Polaris in terms of strategy could really turn things around for AMD's dGPU's right now. (Thankfully, AMD isnt going anywhere anyway, but I do like their dGPU's) Intel was trying that with the B580 before.. you know.

I want AMD to compete so I don't have to keep spending on Nvidia.

No but seriously, I think theres very few people who aren't thinking like you are. Its just a very middling day for AMD fans. I just can't get super excited about this.
