You're correct, ordered new cable set from Ray mod.

Needed 16 pin anyway so not a big deal. Fun fact the 16 pin is compatible with the 12 pin, but not other way around. So using stock 16 pin cable on my 3080 Ti.

New PSU is nice though.

Got a new mouse pad that's water resistant, deskmat to go under the atlas and keyboard.

Better lighting than my old goliatus chroma too.

Update, the Strider Chroma is both taller by around 3 cm and brighter than the Goliatus Chroma, while having 19 lighting zones. I still use synced spectrum cycling though as if it's one zone, but it's a nice upgrade. The cable seems a little shorter or I took a different cable management approach, but it's all good. The controller moved to the middle side from the top left is a little annoying though as it appears a little messier.

Now the Atlas which is taller still doesn't protrude enough that I feel the need to put supports under the top of it, since tempered glass can crack if unsupported.

Since I sometimes eat at my desk, the hybrid water resistant surface does seem a lot easier to clean, too.

This will be packed in with my luggage and sandwiched in between some clothing for added shock protection. I also have to bring an old TP-Link 4G router with me as we dont have internet on location so I thought it would be better to get a hard travel case I can throw some stuff into aswell.

Havent bought plane tickets yet. Its not been decided but its going to come down to the wire at this stage. I may or may not be gone before this arrives.

Ive had to take my laptop out and power it on and off for them before but my last few trips they didnt even care. Just drop everything in a tray or on the conveyor belt to be put through the machine. They've never stopped me for my tablet.

They've stopped me more times for my metal belt buckle and watch than any actual tech ive taken on my trip as carry-on luggage... Which has also included a 10000mAh power bank and an swiss army knife. The knife should have been left with the rest of the luggage.

I think. depending how busy they are. A lot of the security people at check-ins dgaf and just wave you through unless its super suspicious.

Ive heard some horror stories though.

Guy packing his firearm in a pelicase. Followed all the rules/regulations and the TSA using bolt cutters to cut the lock when he refused to open it, just so they could see what was inside then told him he couldnt fly with it because it wasnt secured properly...

Doesnt happen over here for obvious reasons.

Took these from my friend's brother to upgrade my 2nd PC. I'll pay 70EUR from these later and I'll get an i9-9900K or KS later as well. Then I can give this 8600K to my brother to upgrade his 8350K.

A 64GB CFExpress card and a 64GB UHS-II SD card to unhobble my cam from the UHS-I cards it had hitherto been stuck with. They are a bit more expensive than a 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD added up together, actually rather a lot slower, and are the smallest and cheapest ones in their respective lineups. :twitch:

Though they do matter...a little, with burst stills and 4K video.

Maybe someone would make cameras that accept 2230 M.2 SSDs in carts. But where's the fun (& profit) in that?

M.2s are a lot more fragile than CFExpress cards. Their connectors aren't designed for frequent removal either. I agree that it would be beneficial from a cost perspective, but durability would almost certainly suffer.

Just put them each through a badblocks pass. They throttle pretty quickly too, even with a fan blowing right at them. 4 read-write passes took more than 40 minutes and the CFexpress one is not much, if any, faster with this kind of load. But then it might be the software.

I'm beginning to question the wisdom of this purchase; but getting backup set up right at source, and not losing pictures during trips from card failing in camera is a bonus, unlikely as it might be.

I absolutely agree. Though it is especially grating that a lot of the backend technology are the same, especially for CFexpress.

One of the several things that make you wonder about what they say on photo gear forums, that a lot of people - mostly "young 'uns" - are going after classic compact cams, and things like Instax. They take pictures just fine. With more character than smartphone cams, too.

M.2 2230 in a CFExpress case would be the best of both worlds. May or may not fit though.
