Those are definitely dipping loafs for thick tomato or minestrone soups!
I made a Broccoli and Stilton Soup last night in my soup maker and had some for lunch with some warm ciabatta today, damn good!

What if I told you, that you have never actually tasted real bacon? Was it fed acorns in a free pasture?

I think that would depend on who you ask. Everyone has their own opinion.

It also depends greatly on how it's prepared. Not all bacon is made equal.

Too much fat and it become a greasy, nasty mess with the wrong flavor. To little fat and the flavor doesn't hit the mark. Undercooked and it's a soggy repugnance. Overcooked and while it's still edible, is has the charred flavor..

Bacon has to be done right AND combined with the right foods. It's not the universal awesome that everyone thinks it is.

Well, every food has to be cooked right, no one said otherwise. :) Bacon is no exception.

You would be shocked how many people think over fatty, soggy bacon is acceptable. Bacon isn't like other foods that can be good even if it's just "close enough". It has to be just right.

I know. That's how they serve it at my workplace canteen. No wonder I don't eat there. It's disgusting.

well, my point is most pigs are fed garbage slop for food, or just junk feed that is cheap as can be, but bacon tastes 1000x better if the pig is fed high quality stuff its whole life, like acorns, etc

so, in fact most people have never actually tasted bacon - hence the Matrix gif's

on-topic: Morrison's Orange and Peach Still water is very tasty, highly recommend.

I might try my Broccoli and Stilton with some Italian Parma Ham chopped up as it's not too greasy.

Ideally. Id put just enough just to lightly season the soup. No need to go overboard with it although it could be rather tempting.

I guess that's true with every animal, not just pigs. I watched a video not long ago explaining that cows were never meant to eat grains because they can't digest them properly, but that's what they feed them because it's cheaper than grazing.

I like the lime and elderflower ones, but those are nice, too.

yeah, in Ireland I believe all of their cows are grass fed. In Wales, there is a special kind of grass they feed their cows and the meat apparently tastes better in Wales even compared to Ireland. There is a lot that people just become complacent with because it is "good enough"

I am going to try to find the lime and elderflower one, thanks

There is a science to grain feeding. Usually they are put in a feedlot for a specific period of time to ensure proper marbling of the meat. It's not just "cuz it's cheaper"

Fair enough. The video I watched was on about some chemicals in the meat that wouldn't be there if the cow was purely grass-fed. I can't remember the exact details.
