And I want that with 4K120 with your card's 10GB brother :D

I guess I'll just stick to older games, though I still must get FF VII Rebirth, no matter if the PC port is good or horrible.

Just whisper to it and say you can do it....

you mean buying the 7900xt instead of waiting for the 9070xt?? sorry if i didnt get the idea

If the 9070XT performs like a 7900XT which both rumors and AMDs own slides indicate would that even be worthwhile. Around a 20% increase although it might not be much faster or faster at all in RT like workloads.

This thread could have done ok with a poll.

Next round, maybe, the round after next maybe, looking for ~50% performance increase at <~ 100W total board power from the point of an already considerably downclocked RX6900XT.
Dare to dream. Used to be able to Overclock 50% too, but that doesn't happen any more either.

We must realize that we are at the mercy "Laws of Physics". You can only produce a machine that can produce a transistor sub nm, we have inventions to make yet.

I would not expect past 30% gains 4090 vs 5090 like 30% Wattage thermal input/output to achieve those 30% better FPS numbers. It's just a bigger 4090 core, new name and a bunch more wattage usage....

ive being looking the 7900XT really close, but dont want to pay $600+ plus taxes gets close or over $700 for that card.
Im on the watch of a Microcenter open box deal for less than $590
that will be nice

Gamers need to realize we are at the bottom of the list of importance.

So 20% and the extra Vram is appealing to you?

NVIDIA just focused more on its software/driver side features rather more on the architecture, I think this was better yet to be the 4090 Super/TI if only AMD have something to pounce back at them. This is what non-competition looks like, we all suffer the price tag of non-innovating scums.

I'd like to be wrong though, but every piece of data presented is leaning more towards those small figures.

I still can't be without of thinking Doom 2016. Looks good and runs on a potato, now a high-end card needs scaling to run games at 4K60 with modern games.

What happened, I really mean it?

Odd way to show it but looking good....
It is looking good, hopefully those results translate to other titles.... that it actually gets implemented in.
Would 7900XT like performance even be a worthwhile upgrade.....
Hard pass from me when they came out, heck even after 3-5 months and the prices fell. Double the VRAM but not nearly enough more performance and what amounted to, at best, RT stagnation performance for me.

No word of a lie I've had an utterly fantastic run with my 3080 10GB at 4k, VRAM has been a hot topic for a few years now, and some people (mostly who don't own one from what I'm gathering) love to shit on it, but It hasn't given me any grief at all, in fact with all the improvements to the feature set over the past 4 years it's ageing like... a fine wine. I expect when I upgrade it'll get many more years of excellent use in the living room/sons PC.

I get you I just don't think 7900XT like performance will scratch that itch..... and 550+ is still not really cheap.... I know you can sell that 3080 12GB probably for 400 ish but still.

Not the same super duper optimized scenario but man !!!! i ran Monster Hunter World high setting and tweaks 1440p with a gtx1070,
Monster Hunter Wilds is not that far visually speaking and same pc 7700K gtx 1070 couldn't run 1080p low settings higher than 22fps.
Upgrading my sons pc is why im leaning for an upgrade too so i will give him my 3080

$550 i know is not cheap is regarding market prices nowadays, i get your point

100% makes way more sense now.... Just being a good dad and any upgrade in that scenario is a good one.

Yeah, count me in. Just waiting for some benchmarks and let the dust settle on all the hype so the price drops a little from launch prices.

Will definitely be putting it on water so will have to have a look see at what blocks will be available for any given partner card.
So, the question for me being on a custom loop is do I source a block and fit it myself or look at an off the shelf option? My current Liquid Devil which I bought straight up was a bugger. I had to strip it and clean the gunk from the cooler. Pretty sure "gunk" was not included in the features list on the box. Check out my previous posts on that experience if you want. The Byski cooler I hooked up on my 6900XT previously was a dream in comparison. Sidenote: I think I have answered my own question.

Fresh rumours:

Which would put it slightly below 7900XTX in raster (in Time Spy) and on the same level as XTX in RT (Speed Way), with a lot less WGP.
There was also video from KitGuru from PowerColor booth at CES that drivers that AIB got for testing only allowed full performance on FurMark (for thermal testing), while 3dmark is reduced by 20%. Question whethere those perf numbers are with those drivers or unlocked ones. Time will tell, supposedly launch will be at 22.01.
Raytracing performance a bit disappointing if true. Hopefully a driver issue.

Nope not really. My upgrades recently have been more external. Like I finally bought an xbox controller rather than going with the logitech $20 controller. I used to love that cheap controller but because my first one lasted ~3 years. Second one 1 year, then after that they were only lasting a month or less and I'm like okay I need a better solution. Also got a keyboard. I don't see any real need to upgrade anything internally. Maybe ram at some point, I'm thinking more quantity than speed, but thats more a want than a need so meh its on the backburner. I'm sure my 4090 and 14700kf can continue to play games at 4k60 for a while still, I'm perfectly willing to make compromises, I like to keep power use down anyway so I make compromises even when I don't need to.

Then there's always the monitor which is very old but I damn it I am just, perfectly satisfied with this monitor so its hard to want to replace it. Its specs may pale in comparison to modern monitors but I still think the picture looks great and I do not notice any input lag, and isn't that all that matters, really?

i am planning to upgrade my 4090 for an 5080, if the 5070 is on par with the 4090, the 5080 will demolish the 4090.

5090 is to power hungry and expensive for me

if the 5070 is on par with the 4090,
That's only if you enable multi-frame generation. In raw performance, it's nowhere near.

i don't like frame generation, DLSS is ok if i need the performance. if the 5080 is not a lot better than the 4090 (under 40%), i will keep the 4090 and wait for the rtx 6000

That's a wise decision, imo.

With the impending release of new generation Nvidia, Intel and AMD cards, new AMD and Intel CPUs and APUs, is anyone thinking of upgrading their rigs? Maybe an upgrade to older generation parts which now might come down in price? This is not a question for new builds.
Hell yes I'm upgrading. While we all still need to wait for competent reviewers to weigh in with the real numbers, the RTX5000 cards are going to be a solid jump up. I'm running a 3080 and I want to get something faster before going 2160p.

i am planning to upgrade my 4090 for an 5080, if the 5070 is on par with the 4090, the 5080 will demolish the 4090.

5090 is to power hungry and expensive for me
That's surely just marketing side speak. The 5070 won't come close to 4090 performance.

It will if you don't care about latency and artifacts.....
