I think main reason 4000 series was decently faster than 3000 series is because the lithography change from 8nm to 5nm. The 5000 series will be the same 5nm as the 4000 series so I'm expecting less performance increase than we got going from 3000 to 4000 series.

Hard for me to tell the difference between 5950X/X570 HERO and RTX3090 compared to the 9800X3D/X670 Crosshair Extreme and RTX4090 in the flight sims. Gotta have a backup gamer for the grandson when he comes.

5090 delta performance is likely 25% over the 5090 in gaming without smoke and mirrors dlss.
This is not stopping the scalpers pushing for sky is the limit pricing above mentioned $1999 MSRP.
Also 4080 super and lower just lost 25% of its value.

The 5090 is apparently 40% faster at Native 4K w/ PT on Cyberpunk 2077 :

Let's hope it will be more like 50% later on because so far it's not great when compared to the jump from 3090 to 4090

My 4090 at 3ghz was getting closer to 25 fps 4k max path tracing, using dlaa, rr, reflex and am hoping that the 29 fps is for the reference 5090 2 slot throttle monster and has significant head room for the aib 360 mm all in one models to get to 35 or even 40 fps. For some reason I strongly believe the reference model will be a paper launch just to hook the market. Was the market really asking for a 2 slot small factor compatible enthusiast gpu that will throttle in a small factor build using 575 watts? I seriously doubt it. I believe Nvidia did it to cut cost in order to market the fe model as $1999. Anyone that has a small factor PC knows that 575 watts will throttle that gpu no matter how great the engineering is for that card. I am looking forward to the 360 mm all in one rad designs to find out how ,much headroom or performance is left on the table vs reference model.

Yeah I get between 25 and 30fps depending on areas and what's going on around me but it's still terrible and unplayable.

What a sad state we live in now.... Everything appears to be scalped .... I was buying Deadpool and Wolverine on 4k steel book at release prices (very unlike me!) but if I didn't they where going for nearly £100 a film on Ebay... That's just down right wrong but people still pay it,. I'm sad that since all this started, its just become the norm.... If only people could stop buying
wait, the wolverine and deadpool movie? its selling for $30 on amazon. im missing something I guess?

LOL who remember that used GPU usually sell for 50% of MSRP after 6 months, now used 4090 are selling for 90% of MSRP after 2 years.
suckers keep paying. its all hype. everyone buys based on pressure/SM/hype/influencers. I dont fall for ANY of that. im not an impulse buyer. no salesman can sell me anything. I plan ahead and many times ill keep things in my cart for a year before considering to get it. I use keepa for price history on things. and I have lots of patience.

Wow, EVERYTHING you wrote here is wrong/highly questionable.

People want compact well engineered GPUs.

How can you tell the GPU will throttle, they egineered a custom one of a kind cooler, why do you think they would settle on an inadequate solution?

Why do you think the FE card is cheap to make? Beside the overall quality and cooler, even the PCB is a dense probably server grade product.

So you can use FSR and increase GPU lifespan but can't use DLSS to make 5070 = 4090?

The card in a small form factor itx case will throttle using 575 watts, next question what psu would handle this beast with a small form factor with 1000 watts minimu with atx 3.1?
So when I say throttle not in a open test bench but the scenario market it's intended for the small form factor build. Questions?

Update with these clocks the card is probably not using anywhere near 575 watts and is going to be able to reach those like the 4090s were in some AIB aftermarket designs.

I was hoping for at least 60 fps pre launch and now I'll settle for 35 to 40. It seems Nvidia will milk the rt performance unless their is competition.

RDNA 3 (RX 7000) was supposed to be highly competitive so Nvidia went almost all-in with Lovelace (RTX 40s), that's why the performance gap with Ampere (RTX 30s) was so big and RT/PT Performance went like 2x between 3090 & 4090... But now that Nvidia are leading easily they do NOT NEED to push as much with Blackwell (RTX 50s) ! In fact they chose A.I. (Frame Generation) to do all the heavy lifting... Look at the Core Clocks on the 5090 they even went down compared to the 4090 lol. The big plus is the Memory Bandwidth increase (Memory Bus + GDDR7).

Unless AMD release RDNA 5/UDNA in 2026, and is really competitive with a 5090, Nvidia are not even going to bother! Also RDNA 5 would have to be as powerful as a 5090 but without using FSR 4 to be compelling...

To all 4090 owners, I think the value of the 4090 will NOT drop dramatically after January 30th. Once the benchmarks online show that the 4090 is still a very powerful GPU, and can still be more powerful than a 5080 without using DLSS & FG then its value will remain high. Also the 4090 has 24GB VRAM, 8GB more than the 5080...

I don't plan on selling my 4090 anytime soon nor do I plan on paying $1000 more than what I paid for it with the model replacing it. There seems to be room for a couple cards in between the 5080 and the 5090 and with little competition this series of card will probably be around for a while.

Totally not true. Quite the opposite. Reflex works when your gpu is at 99%. That's when latency is high

Just wondering, and no offense, but what kind of jobs do you guys have. Granted I live in a different country with much lower wages in general, but a 2k 4090 is two months of income for me, and ~4 months of rent for most people here.

I have my doctorate in medicine and supervise a team. Graduated University in 08. Became a PC enthusiast in 07 when Crysis came out and got hooked ever since. 4090 will be good for 5+ years more I think given how meagre the hardware gains in the mid range are now.

On the software side they're developing for that mid range.

RT offers little image quality benefits for me and not worth using upscaling for or the raw fps hit.
