Yep, I had a feeling his reviews are skewed like this.

Man, I love tests where it is a fair playing field. That will never be 100% accurate though as different games are optimized for different hardware. The x3d did for AMD what the sandy/ivy bridge did for Intel when AMD released their horrible FX lineup. I am a little disappointed about the new K series CPUs when it comes to gaming. This is on Intel though as they mislead their fans. They said they are going to use the same v-cache as AMD and they did not. Anyways. Older Intels is still a solid choice. I am thinking to try and source a 8700k as this is one of the few Intel CPUs I actually like.

After a lot of testing, stuttering still persists even at complete stock. Power draw is also silly high and temps are somehow getting worse. If you don't plan to tuning the crap out of this, grab a 7800X3D, it should be way more manageable.

Have you tried monitoring with Intel's PresentMon without HWinfo64, MSI Afterburner in the background?
And in which game do you have stuttering?

I'm mostly playing poe2 but I've noticed it in pretty much every game. I'm running afterburner, fancontrol and hwinfo on the background, same stuff I've been using on every computer.

You can try without them for a run.

In practice this could be from many things, AMD is a bit more vulnerable than Intel in terms of stuttering, but most problems are solvable.

If you're using your spec mouse, the Viper ultimate, have you tried lowering the polling rate to 250 Hz or using a different mouse?

I have the viper yes, and a 1000hz controller. Haven't tried that but it's absurd, I know the polling rater wastes cpu cycles but it should be easy to handle with the 9800x 3d.

Again though, they are so infrequent that nothing comes to mind as a plausible cause. If monitoring apps caused this it should be way more frequent, currently it happens like once every 15-30 minutes.

what's your last bios? MSI just released one 2 days ago for my specific board that made stutters wayy better (finally a firs non-beta bios), lots of tweaks to OC.

Haven't updated since day one to be honest. I still have the previous AGESA before the memory latency reductions. Don't feel like tuning memory again

In my case the new bioses with stock ram and latency reductions are faster and smoother than the old one with everything cranked. I'm getting better SOTR fps at the default "Hynix A Die" 30-36-36-36 than my old tuned 6000 28-34-34-34 setup.

I also am not going to tune anything until the bioses mature a bit and windows updates get released.

You have a 4090 right? Care posting your sotr run? Out of academic interest, cause I'm pretty sure latency was fine, it was just Aida that was the issue all along.

This was beta bios after latency tweak -- the latency tweak is mostly for aida, but they made other changes that helped stuttering. Once im done with meetings today I will disable virtualization and rerun on new bios for apples to apples.

Ram here was 6000 cl 30-36-36-96-134 with only other tweak being TREFI at 65535. Latency killer OFF. VBS disabled (I leave it enabled most of the time but i have a script that runs on restart that asks if I want to opt out or not if I'm gaming).

This is mine with the older agesa (supposedly increased latency). Averages are similar, only the lows have some difference.

I noticed the same thing with the 7800X3D it wasn't terrible but would happen occasionally. I only messed around with it for a week though and my buddy who bought it off me (same gpu) says he doesn't have any issues.

The 7950X3D for me does not exhibit the same stuttering once configured even when disabling the 2nd ccd so not sure what was going on. Clean installed windows 3 times and tried both stock and manual ram settings.

I also use afterburner/hwinfo

You'll knock off quite a bit of thermal resistance. It'll run cooler....

But from what I see, 5.9ghz 0c 1.45v and up. You might squeeze 5.8 on ambient. We are at the mercy of physics. You would need the same for all generations of processors to reach this type of frequency. So no worries.

Still would debate delid for daily myself. Maybe in a couple years when ready to replace it and maybe put some dryice on it get into the 6ghz club probably with it. :)

It's a little old, but it's topical, so you can try it as a stuttering fix:
Disabling MPO (Multiplace Overlay)
In some cases this is related to the NVIDIA Display Driver (nvlddmkm.sys) DPC Latency.
