Let's away from the doom and gloom. Sounds like some sort of hostile takeover. Besides, it depends where you live. I've got no problems seeing my doc or dentist up here, and I'm in Glasgow. The UK is basically a postcode lottery of luck.
Oh, it's not all doom and gloom - sorry if I made it seem that way. :ohwell:

Life is full of wonder and joy - it's only that work isn't one of them for the vast majority of people, which we have to learn to accept and live with.

Anyway - back to English.

I mean, what the hell? English is a tormentor, the language of 'exceptions.'
I watched a couple of videos on this which were funny. :D I was trying to find them, but I can't.

I feel like health service is taken more seriously in Scotland than England lol.
You think thats bad..try looking at cantonese with pronunciations.
You can say the exact same word but with different tone can change what the word is.

Have you ever studied Japanese? Russian? Portuguese? Italian? German? English isn't the only language of exceptions. It's not even the worse offender, not by far..
In Russian, letters mostly correspond to one sound, which is the same sound in every word, as far as I know (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

It takes a bit of practice but you get used to it on speaking. :)

yeah, I have always thought learning English must be a nightmare as a second language. Also, so many of the same words mean so many other things depending on the context of the sentence

in other news, ate at a local cafe today here in Exeter, it was shocking, only 2 quid for a basket of fries (chips) and it was big too. still not as good as the Morrison's "best" brand of rosemary fries i pop in the oven sometimes, but it was decent

the Indian last night was mediocre, frozen indian meals are not nearly as good as the fridge ones you can get, so I will be sticking with the fridge ones, but I am learning. right when I leave the UK I will have mastered the best bang for buck of every variety of dish between Morrisons, Aldi, and Sainsburys  thus completing my life of knowing a lot of useless information

Nah, it's quite easy with just a little attention. :)

Also, so many of the same words mean so many other things depending on the context of the sentence
That's the same in every language.

You don't want to know the horror of trying to navigate Hungarian official language (the terms of banking, insurance, etc.). Even Hungarians don't understand any of it. I'm sure it's designed so that you don't understand what they're charging you for.

Why do you bother with pre-made food? If you want Indian, there's a plethora of awesome cooking sauces and spices available that will give you much better quality. They come with instructions, too, so you won't be lost even if cooking isn't your strong suit. :)

I understand that the top character has some drastically different meanings based on context...

I can't read any now, my reading skill was like a 5-10 year old grade when I was trying to learn it throughout teen.
My speaking level is only enough to communicate with family.

Im the same. I can read bits of it but not a whole lot. Unfortunately our parents forgot to buy the Cantonese Language DLC pack when we born so we have to use babelfish.

If I can ever afford to have my own kitchen/place someday I intend to make a lot of food home made someday. In the UK I am either at a friends or relatives, and they need the kitchen / I just don't want to be in the way / there is contention if I leave dishes out with my friend, she wants me to wash them before I eat my meals, which I dislike doing, I prefer my meals as hot and fresh as possible. So, I just don't bother. At home, I live with my parents, and they just yell at me anytime they see me in kitchen, which is one of the reasons I am traveling at the moment as I just can't stand living with them anymore.

Alas, I don't make enough money to get on my own yet, so it is what it is. At least I have become the master of finding the best quickest meals.
