Did he just upgrade the cpu or gpu as well ?

He upgraded the gpu first and didn't see much improvement swapped out the cpu and doubled his fps.

In some areas his fps were actually worse due to more driver overhead with Nvidia not sure if that's still a thing though.

Yeah, that sounds about right for cities.

He went from a 6700XT to a 4080 super and didn't see much of an improvement till he swapped the cpu out. I'm not sure what areas were giving him issues I've never played the game. I do find it kinda funny that it's been in development so long there is Nvidia 700 and AMD 200 series benchmarks for it.

It was great for the first week. The servers have degraded to the point of being near unplayable. Wait for the 4.0.1 patch coming any day now.

The problem is item persistence. CIG doesn't do enough culling which results in degraded server conditions.

This new Hathor mining laser content is amazing. You have to fight off NPC's and other players to align some massive satellite dishes. It REALLY helps if you have air support keeping the skies clear of other players. Then you go to a space station to prime a giant mining laser. Then you return to the ground to fire the laser and open up a cave with super rare loot. It involves FPS combat, ship combat, and mining. It isn't easy and requires an organized group to accomplish. Star Citizen has these sandbox activities that keep me playing. No other game has anything like it.

Im hearing ya , ive not got to that mission yet but i just completed a mercenary mission to clear out a heap of dudes from a base on Microtech and after getting my rig tuned , and re learning the game
after a few years not playing. I landed ( and thats half the fun finding the place ) and cleared out all the dudes and got a 37k bonus :) i must say at this point i had exhausted all my uac, so getting this mission done was High priority to get more ammo, fuel, drink, water etc. I had to borrow a few bits and pieces off dead guys but got it done! Its looking much better than 2021 and the bots are better too. So i agree there is nothing like it...
