Have a look at this compiled list that indicates CPU is degraded, try one of the methods and see if it crashes for you. This can guide you https://www.reddit.com/r/intel/comments/1ekiwku
UE5 & Linux USB method was most consistent ones that show signs of CPU degradation on Intel HX CPUs. Two of my work friends happened to them and I tested those two methods on there laptops and it was indeed having degraded CPU issues. 1st was Acer Helios with HX i9 13th gen and other one was Gigabyte HX i7 14th gen.

Both OEMs reported a generic answer indicates "CPU Problem" and both OEMs suggested solution was "Motherboard replacement". I bet most OEMs they don't diagnose the reason behind those problem immediately. I guess they straight up repair users laptop, replace mobo and then find out later the reason behind this :)

Check your Intel ME FW, they might have updated only the Intel ME FW. ASUS have done the same thing for 2023 laptop models and they promised to provide 0x12B microcode update soon on the next BIOS update release.

Intel ME FW It must be not lower than 16.1.30.2307. Anything with Intel ME FW version 16.1.30.2307 or above is good and you don't need further updates for it. You can do it easily for your motherboard. You just need to look the right chipset series model name that you have and download the related files to update your Intel ME FW.

Usually it is H770/HM770 that you need to look for it, both H770/HM770 are exactly the same thing. You can check this through HWINFO64... here's an example of mine.

Just for the sake of assurance, please double check everything :)

You can find them under "FIRMWARE" section :)

I recommend doing the update process while in "Safe mode" due to how sensitive this update process are & to prevent any interruption from anything.

Any thing that interrupts the update process will result on bricked motherboard or flashing the wrong Intel ME FW will obviously brick your motherboard/Laptop/PC. Again Double Check Everything.

You are good :toast: , you don't need to update your chipset FW, your updated BIOS which contained 0x12B has also updated and included Intel ME FW too :) no need to do anything extra ;)

Just wanted to share good news here regarding for ASUS users with Intel HX CPUs 13th/14th gen :) We did it! After I was grinding against ASUS mods & reps & emails with also the help of other people [while there is some people who's against BIOS/Microcode update :kookoo:] ASUS finally made a move after a long months of fighting. :D

@hexaae you want to see this ;)

Thank you. So they will update chipset and Intel ME firmwares? Also microcode?

Failed to update microcode on one or more CPUs. is what the event viewer log says for cpumcupdate.

Check event viewer, look for "cpumcupdate" event log, and see what does it says and post it here, so that we can help :)

Yes, they will do that. It's really a must and every single OEM done that except very few who just didn't care to update Intel ME FW. Time will tell and once it gets out for 2023 models, I will report my findings here :)

Oh damn, does it say the reasons for it on the same evet viewer message?

Could this manual injection of 12B microcode cause system instability as well? I checked the thread but no luck. Attached the image of whea dmp log
I doubt that really, Do you use any kind of undervolt? it's known you need to re-test your undervolt when a new microcode is being used :)

Thank you so much to whoever built it.
I updated it with ease.
My Acer Predator Helios 18 is not crossing 95C. I feel more assured about longevity of my laptop CPU.
Acer isn't bothered to release any BIOS update to inject that update, so this method is the best available for now.

I received a new BIOS update from MyASUS. My laptop is G814-JI. There is no chipset or Intel ME update though. I will update and check the microcode version.

UPDATE: After updating BIOS, microcode version is 12B. I did not update manually, before version was 115 (if I remember correctly).

I can confirm as well, ASUS right now & currently released BIOS updates with 0x12B microcode to all Intel HX CPUs 13th/14th Gen. for ROG Strix series 2023/2024 models.

Hello @THEBOSS619. I bought MSI Vector 16hx A14 laptop with Intel i9-14900hx. My microcode version was 116 and I did not know about this problem until yesterday. I played many games on performance mode and I didn't have any crash or weird behavior. Does it mean no damage was done during that time? I updated microcode today and launching demanding game show voltage below 1.4. Please help if you can. I spent a lot of money and I'm scared to be honest.

As long as didn't have any crash or weird behavior, then Don't worry, you're fine :) just to let you know... most MSI laptops have access to hidden BIOS settings. One of the hidden BIOS setting have the ability to limit the voltage. If you know what you are doing, you can follow this guide and apply voltage cap.
That alone is enough and you don't need to care about anything else ;) if you can't do the voltage cap guide... then undervolting will help too. Don't forget to test your undervolts not just through benchmarks or stress testings but also through casual usage/gaming/productivity use case.

Thanks, so my question would be: I need to undervolt in addition to updating microcode? Or is it not needed?

Can I ask one question? My G814-JI has 1x16 GB 4800 mHz RAM (probably model is Crucial CT16G48C40S5) and I want to add one more stick. Should I use same 4800 mHz RAM or upgrading to 5600 16x2 is better? Could this break stability of CPU?

MSI has still not released an update so I am using the update from the first post.

Any workaround to enable Intel Virtualization and vt-d after the update?

I need to run vmware but getting error and requires to enable both of these features.

I used the VMware driver to load any revision at will with Haswell-E Xeons. It's great to see that it is still useful. The one thing to note is that you can only load a microcode revision newer than the one previously loaded.

Try renaming mcupdate_genuineintel.dll from your system32 folder to something else like mcupdate_genuineintel.bak. requires taking ownership of the file first. This way, Windows will not load its own microcode driver, avoiding any conflicts. Just make a system restore point before you try, should be good.
When I did this my boot failed and I had to load a restore point. I also saw that it's good to turn off VT-d and Virtualization technologies but I run VM's often. What can I do? @THEBOSS619

Interesting, I wonder if this has something to do with your laptop. At the risk of nuking my freshly installed operating system. I just tested to see if it would cause boot to fail and it did not. My Raptor Lake machine is a desktop though. Are you sure you changed just the mcupdate file?

On Windows 10 this file should not even apply on a machine this new, it seems to be dated 2019. I tested it on 11 with my older X99 machine and it did not break anything, just makes the CPU boot raw with no MCU complete with all errata and bugs, as intended.

So I ended up uninstalling the microcode, reverted all the settings and enabled virtualization and vt-d to run vmware

I already had BIOS VR Voltage Limit to 1400 so good for now

Hello everyone, I bought a Vector GP68HX 13VH model laptop about a year ago. It overheats when working with multiple threads, in games and in normal use. I reached out to the warranty once, the paste was renewed. The cooling process changed. There was a slight improvement but still nothing much changed. It was heard that 13th and 14th generation Intel CPUs are problematic. I encountered this problem by doing research. What should I do? I am sharing the system content of my computer below.

What benefits will it provide me if I do this? I would be very happy if you could help me.

Enter BIOS advanced menu by using the following combination
Left Alt + Right Shift + Right Ctrl then press F2

If you have a CoPilot key instead of Right Ctrl then use
Right Shift + FN + Copilot + Left Alt then press F2

Change VR Voltage Limit to 1400 (this will limit voltage to 1.4v for each core)

Save BIOS settings and boot. Monitor your CPU temps and run some benchmarks and CPU intensive tasks to make sure each core is not going above 1.4v and you are good.

Yes, this is for MSI laptops so you can follow it.
I am making the setting you mentioned. I'm not doing anything else about it. Will the processor not heat up after voltage adjustment? Additionally, balanced mode is active in the system. BIOS settings are also in default mode.

Sorry, I don't understand much. Since I use an English dictionary, there may be errors in some words.

It will not heat up after BIOS voltage adjustment.

You can monitor CPU temperature to confirm that the voltage is not going over 1.4v

Where can I follow the voltage value in this application? Also, will I experience any performance loss?
