Did not know about realtek chips basically being intel, even though I dont use ethernet (too far for my laptop use lol) it still sounds like a great idea just for the benefits, also about the vmax, I successfully installed your microcode 0x12B driver without disabling virtualization, I do however have VBS disabled as well my ME firmware being 16.1.30.2361 not the latest but above what you recommended, even with your driver i should have vmax enabled correct?
yup, absolutely correct :) and Yes, VBS disabled will allow the driver to function indeed.
I will start working on Intel Killer driver [aka Realtek Driver] as they are literally the same ;) should work :toast:

I can't blame you for fearing due to Intel suboptimal actions... I lost all the trust on Intel... I'm already on Intel forums trying to get a proper answer related to Intel HX CPUs... & already emailed them but they are very slow... 1 response every week... it's been 4 weeks now.... :wtf:

ah well... I'm gonna stop ranting :)

I have searched and found the latest MCU at 0x4122 would that be ok for you? :) Here I have uploaded the file that made specifically for CPUID of B06A2.

File are from the attachment of this comment... follow the same steps as on the Main post. It should work for you ;)
Hi THEBOSS619!!!! Thank you for all you do, I have been pulling my hair about how to find more information to get this fixed until I found this thread. Many many thanks!!!
I would like to use this one too for the MS-01 that I have ordered but the ZIP seems corrupt. Could you upload a new version?

And while I'm at it, can I use that one on my i5-13500H in my NPB5, with CPU-ID 000B06A2? Just checking, major thanks in advance!
Than the last question, if I use this, I am unable to use virtualization? I really need that though.

Thank you so much for your kind words :respect: I can't thank you enough :)

Yes, you can use it for MS-01 & NPB5 ;) You can try to disable VBS only... maybe it will work without disabling the whole virtualization. :) I just tested I downloaded the zip file and it works correctly and extracts successfully, maybe try to download again? :toast: unless you want a newer ones which is 0x4123 then I can do it for you if you want ;)

This is what I get when I re-download, and then try to extract it with Windows, 7Zip did work though.
But if your willing to package 0x4123 for me (and others) that would be even more AWESOME. Many thanks in advance.

I have tried to update it on my NPB5, with virtualization turned off in the BIOS. Could not find anything that said VBS though.
It ran, did not give me any errors, but did not update it either:

I have checked the logs and see the following:

I have checked the firmware version of the Intel Management Engine Interface #1 that you mentioned in a previous post, mine is 16.1.25.2049, which lower than you advised. I'll figure out how to upgrade that on my NPB5 to see if that could resolve the issue.

Hi everyone! Coming late to the party...

I have a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16IRX9, with an i9-14900HX. I tried everything to unlock the BIOS but unfortunately I can't get to the advanced -locked- options. I just want the set the IA VR Max Voltage Limit. I never used SREP, but I've been reading about it and AFAIK I need to create a custom SREP_Config.cfg for my laptop that unlocks the feature. Does anyone here tried SREP with this laptop model already? Do you know how to create this file to unlock that feature without bricking the laptop in the process?
I just want to set the max Voltage to 1.4V to be safe. Although I'm using Windows and, of course, it has bugs from time to time, I always think it may be because of CPU degradation (laptop has just a few months anyway).

Thanks in advance folks!

others might chime-in about the SREP thing :) but what kind of bugs do you face? can you elaborate more? I'm curious.

Hey @THEBOSS619 thanks for maintaining this. I used to maintain updated version but certain OEM firmware caused more issues after startup with weird slowdowns on specific thinkpads or asus vivobook. Bin2Dat is good and updating MEI FW is a bit cumbersome on latest intel models which might require stitching proper PD and firmware otherwise it can go kaput.

Maybe you can add the links in OP. Currently I'm using Ryzen PRO 8840HS and I'm trying my best to find compatible tools to find and update mcu and agesa.
Intel MCU repo [Raw BIN files]
Bin2Dat
Windows Update MCU [Very old and haven't been updated]
Intel MCU converter [Use below link as source directory]
Intel uCode for Windows/Linux with caveat patches

I do miss ThrottleStop @unclewebb and use it on my old Intel PCs.

Acer released BIOS update with 0x129 microcode update for Intel HX CPUs
1729900564503.png

To people who says Intel HX CPUs not affected? I call that bullshit :kookoo: been saying that since day 1, specifically to ASUS mods who never cared at all about laptop users with Intel HX CPUs & simply outright removing any comments that doesn't fit ASUS public image

Intel will never admit it and hence OEM will use it as an excuse:wtf: other OEMs (like ASUS and others) should learn to at least confront the facts and start caring for laptop customers who got inevitable degradation of Intel HX CPUs if users isn't cautious enough.

Hi @THEBOSS619, I am back! Got my MS-01 and unfortunately all kinds of throtling issues with it. Changed TCC Offset didnt work, and I replaced the cooling paste with PTM7950.
Ttemps never go higher than 90 degrees celcius but hey, it still throttles. Heck under full stress it doesnt even reach 83 degrees.

Anyhow, that is not why I am here. I am here to show you the current microcode, maybe you could let me know if it needs any updating.

Hello, there you go SREP.

Just format the usb stick, put all the files inside, enter the bios, disable secure boot, boot with the usb stick, the screen will go black with several writings in the top left corner, wait for it to finish and then click on continue and then it will return to the bios and open several hidden tabs. Be careful with changes, if you change something that prevents the laptop from turning on, you will have to open and disconnect the battery, reconnect it and turn it on with the charger plugged in, this will reset the bios.

In my experience, I was able to slightly overclock the RAM, change the AC/DC values (only do this if you know what you are doing) and set the voltage limit. With these changes I managed to increase the performance substantially at the same time as the voltage does not exceed 1.3V for the 5.6Ghz of the I9 13980HX (TVB off).

View attachment 367671

This spreadsheet exemplifies the gains I made with these changes (Cinebench R23 HT Off). My best scores in Cinebench was 30285 (148W) HT off and 34775 (160W) with HT on.

Good luck playing with that.
Did you power limited pl1 and pl2?

EDIT: disabling VBS and rebooting simply worked, now I have microcode 12B :'P

THEBOSS, thank you and the others *so much* for your work and research. People like us have been a bit mistreated, but now we have proof that HX (13 and 14 gen) CPUs were affected by the issues.

I also downclocked a bit the ACLL value (actually a lot) a few months ago, now I'll try to see if I should "upclock" it a bit in case I'll have issues with the microcode.

Hello!

The installation of 129 went good, no errors even in Event, but HWINFO actually shows that I'm at version 113 just as earlier. Memory integrity protection is disabled already, I tried to reboot, and also to rename mcupdate_GenuineIntel.dll with cmd (admin) but seems that I'm not allowed to rename even if I was admin. If I do via GUI with explorer.exe, it says that I need authorization from TrustedInstaller or something like that Do we have any solution here?

It's strange that nothing is provided easily via Windows while Intel is about to provide the microcode update via simple packages on GNU/Linux OSs. I wonder if anything can be done from the WSL, but I know nothing of that system.

Thank you so much for your kind words, I really appreciate it. :respect:

now we have proof that HX (13 and 14 gen) CPUs were affected by the issues.

Exactly Exactly Exactly, It's time to crusade against Intel... Intel is lying & scamming to everyone... OEMs is also to blame too... Why OEMs not release the microcode for HX users like Dell & Acer did? Dell & Acer released 0x129 microcode with new BIOS update for Intel HX users... why not do it as a preventive measurement? why wait for it to happen? if the CPU is cooked then it is too late to fix it with microcode...

Good luck convincing OEMs to repair it for you for free when you are outside of warranty. Problems will appear years or months sooner or later & I bet OEMs will start to cover it up behind Intel statements.

What if OEM decline user repairs, should the customer then sit there with borked cpu? and even if they accept user repairs... you gotta splash out lots of $$$ & OEMs will charge you high prices for repairments (which they will replace the whole motherboard)

A respectable user in discord said something that opened my mind... Most companies would just rely on the lazy customers that wont do anything about it and accept their greediness and bullshit that the company offers.

The whole business model there and ppl who are sitting don't have ANY CLUE, maybe the engineers, but the representatives of Customer Care are just basic managers hoping that the customer will be lazy to argue with them and wont know their own rights.

It clearly shows how huge companies don't interact within their departments and have even huge misunderstanding between their departments, not even speaking about customer and Escalation/Customer Care relationship - all these can lead to awful decisions. We are into darker days for sure in 2025. Long story short... the shadow of future uncertainty is rooted so deep into the tech giants that actually makes them to simply disregard everything for maximum profits & minimal loses

They just hopes that the customers will be lazy to discuss and therefore can be easily dropped off w/o any solution - sounds weird, but that's the reality, when a company is aiming for the profit, they will just spit into the audience.

It took Intel 1+ years to admit it and start fixing there own pile of crap. Do you think OEM will analyze the issue and try to know the main cause? I doubt that... they will just simply replace the whole motherboard and move on and charge the user with high repair prices... it's win-win situation for OEMs but exchanging a motherboard every time is literally a waste and also hard procedure on their side to get the request accepted and so on.

The fact that Intel saying that they are not affected will let OEMs an escape route & to use this as an excuse to not release any BIOS updates for Intel HX cpus or repair it and it simply it's up to OEMs to decide if they wanna release BIOS updates with the microcode or not.

I have talked to HP, XMG, ASUS, etc... through support & forums... do you know what bullshit excuse they all use? "No data indicates that it happened"... one of OEMs simply outright spitting crap of how much bullshit this statement when they say.. "but but but Intel said they aren't affected" won't talk about it more for ASUS as it is a long story & I went in grinding & friction against them of how much incompetent & naive they are about this issue.

Dell/Alienware & Acer did it and released 0x129 microcode update for Intel HX CPU users even while Intel admittly lying & saying "They are not affected" publicly... OEM knew about it all along since day 1 & the day it happened and I bet they forced Intels hands to do not dare to say it publicly that HX are affected bec. if Intel did that... OEM will be the 1st to get hit and will be forced to replace every single motherboard since the CPU is embedded and second... sue cases all over against Intel for the damages.

What is more funny... is Intel put it in a PDF mentioning about HX being affected silently without doing any kind of announcements, I guess they hope people won't notice? that's the problem, it is all hidden under the rug. If they kept it hidden... sooner or later will happen, they learned that lesson with Desktop CPUs... now they are doing it again with HX users but with a lie... this PDF file should cause an outrage against Intel. Intel actions speaks volumes.

Intel throwing HX users under the bus to avoid court cases from OEMs for the damage that will cause if Intel said that they are affected publicly. So It is easier to simply lie about it and say "Not affected" and release a pdf file silently after months.

Good luck seeing that on any tech or media platforms... they will be all busy about Arrow lake. Nice timing choice Intel made... at least no body will notice... the perfect italian job crime, Remember... this is as public info as it gets... no body know what Intel is hiding but I bet you 100% they aren't saying the full truth here.

I just copied all those statements from my TechPowerUp profile and put it here... sorry for the long rant :) I'm just not happy at all seeing all this crime that is happening and evading without any consequences.

Thanks a ton in advance!!!
Fixed this issue! My VRM's weren't cooled enough, a little bit of extra putty did the trick. Nice and stable now, but I need virtualization, so Im back on 411C unfortunately. Nonetheless, thanks a lot for your help! Thanks for sharing!

Hi guys,
There is an update from the Lenovo's side. I have a Legion 7/14900HX and I've received a new BIOS today. The microcode revision is now 129, and it is working together with Memory Integrity and Hyper-V enabled. BIOS version is NSCN33WW from 12 Nov 2024.

Thank you so much for reporting it! :respect: 0x129 is not bad, I knew Lenovo will do it, not that it will make it to 0x12B but better than nothing!:roll:

So now those OEM released 0x129 with BIOS update for Intel HX users are:-
  • Dell/Alienware
  • Acer
  • Lenovo
Let's hope OEM and others follows those companies [talking to you ASUS, HP, XMG, etc...]
