It's really sad that the high end GPU market is effectively a monopoly. This is giving me deja vu to the days of CPUs after Sandy Bridge where Intel just gave customers +5-15% performance every generation.
If NVIDIA makes that same mistake, some other player will murder them eventually, like what happened with Intel and Ryzen

Very bad card.

I don't think we will ever see a good price/performance card again, that was for the GTX1000 series, never again. Sad.

If NVIDIA makes that same mistake, some other player will murder them eventually, like what happened with Intel and Ryzen

I want to believe.

On the tear down page - it says the lighting effect is static and cannot be changed or turned off. Is this different than the 30 and 40 series then? Many didnt know it, but you could turn off the LEDs, and change the color of the LEDs on the "X" part of the GPU (Just not the color of the "GeForce" logo)
icue and open RGB, as well as Gigabyte RGB fusion allowed for this control.
I asked NV, they said "it can't be adjusted or turned off"

And just like the 5090 FE it has terrible noise levels, what a surprise.

NV dropped the ball on cooling this generation.

There goes that amazing performance of mighty RTX 5080 that pushes RTX 4090 into the void ...
So much for those who believed RTX 4090 with 16k compute units would get beaten by RTX 5080 with 10k units.
+9% perf. over 4080S (on average in all tested resolutions) with same price and slightly better efficiency. Kind of what was expected.

+10% @1440p and 13% @2160p, that is a refresh for 4080/4080S, but no way a new generation.:slap:
At least the cooler can handle the 5080 much better than the 5090.

Thank gaud that the benchmarks were tested with the 572 driver. Grazie
Disappointing to see that the 5080 doesn't out perform the 4090 in the games and resolution that matter to me. I should of kept my 4090.

The 5080FE seems to cheaply made compared to the 5090FE.
No liquidmetal, much smaller vaporchamber (doesn't even look like the 3D one), much less but bigger VRM components.

I should of kept my 4090.
Haha, same same.
Buying a 5090 and undervolting it below 400W seems to be a waste of money to me...
So I either have to buy a used 4090 or a new 5080...

tbh, I'd have a hard time calling that a 4080Ti.

Now that’s progress! /s

This is the also the FIRST x80 generation ever where the new generation x80 card failed to dethrone the previous flagship (x80TI/x90).

GTX 980 was 11% faster than the GTX 780TI
GTX 1080 was 31% faster than the GTX 980TI
GTX 2080 was 9% faster than the GTX 1080TI
RTX 3080 was 36% faster than the RTX 2080TI
RTX 4080 was 30% faster than the RTX 3090
RTX 5080 is 11.4% slower than the RTX 4090

Truly pathetic NVIDIA.

AMD took the space Intel either ignored or tried to dictate. I wonder what Intel would be pushing had AMD not broke through with Ryzen. I think it's different with NVIDIA though, and I just don't know if/when they can be taken down. No one is invincible, but they have a stranglehold on the gaming market thanks to their proprietary tools and developer "support." Also, their best stuff is selling hand-over-fist in the lucrative AI datacenter space, where all the trillion-dollar companies are fighting for dominance. Until that market dries up or at least comes back to sanity, we'll just get +8% product launches like this. The xx90 is just throwing a bone to the starving dogs.

Thats what happens when there is no competition.
Yeah right, because otherwise Huang would have given you a 5090 for 500$. Let's not kid ourselves, Nvidia is notorious for trying to rip you off even when there was competition.

I do suspect this card was originally the 5070, there's such a big gap between this 5080 and the 5090 they could have put an even more cut down 5090 to make a true 5080. They probably heard AMD scrap the high end card and pulled the trigger on that plan. Now what are they going to do with the chips that fail to make the 5090? 5080TI?

Man this is the first time that an xx80 gpu lose to the best previous gen GPU from Nvidia.

Oh well at least the price to perf and power efficiency went up by 10%,the 5080 also has more than 10% OC headroom LOL.

Maybe Nvidia should just kept selling RTX4000 series for another 2 years

I actually feel sorry for those camping outside Microcenter in the bitter cold to get their hands one of these RTX5080 cards.

That being said, I feel sorry for myself too, my interim GTX 1650 needs replacing after all. and I will have to see what pricing is here locally in South-Africa, but I won't be swindled by too much, especially not after this lack-lustre price/performance showing.

Horrible card. This is very obviously a 5070 sku in terms of specs. They just gave it a little bit more power so it can be slightly faster than 4080.
This gpu could make an awesome 300w 5070...

This is replacing the 4080 not last years super.

The 4080 has already been replaced by the 4080 Super, it doesn't make sense for both cards to coexist. In fact, it's difficult to even find the 4080 anymore.
Given that you can't replace something that has already been replaced, the 5080 is replacing the 4080 Super. However, it doesn't offer big improvements in terms of price/performance or even efficiency, which has typically been the strongest points of a new generation launch.

Terrible generational performance uplift over the 4080, yet it still gets the "highly recommended" award. Also throwing mud at AMD on an Nvidia review? Oh come on. I hope AMD drops dgpus all together at this point and focuses on apus like strix halo, because no matter what at every chance reviewers bash on any competition.
as usual man
