And comments like this is why nothing will improve because you'll buy whatever Jensen sells, your user name is fitting.
This whole act of "oh woe is AMD you would never buy it because you love nvidia" became tiring a month ago. If people bought AMD cards with the same fervor they complained about how nvidia is superior and nobody actually wanted to buy AMD cards, AMD would have way more market share.

Lol..when AMD launches the 9070XT for $800 with 10% better performance over the 7900XT, people better defend the 9070XT because it's so much better price/perf compared to the terribly priced card it replaces. It'll be even more appropriate because there was no follow up to the 7900XT that it replaces, unlike the 5080 which is supposed to replace the 4080 Super.

Whatever, at the end of the day people will justify all kinds of things when it fits their narrative. But reading them is pure entertainment and usually not worth the effort to correct them.

The 5080 *is* better than the 4080.
I think people are disappointed that it's not more better because on Jensen's ridiculous lies and misleading statements.

This is false hope. When was the last time AMD didn't screw up their pricing?

The 290X...
Stop this BS with the "reviewers" promoting nvidia. Seriously, it's pretty hard trying to have a conversation with you when you keep spitting that. Imagine if I freaking did that every damn post. Ok, let me give it a spin just in case it makes you realize how silly I'd look

"The average gamer cares about RT and upscaling, raster isn't a requirement to enjoy a game no matter how much reviewers say how necessary it is. See reviewers and influencers are always trying to promote AMD, don't fall for it".

You get it now, right? I sound silly, yes?

And to address your point, you don't need a high end GPU to enjoy games either. So why are you here, commenting on a 1k$ card? You can enjoy your games on a 200$ gpu from 2020.

It also doesn't add up when 80-90% of people are buying Nvidia. The average consumer obviously cares about it more than the online fanboy wants to admit.

But we will get the sheep comment or whatever instead anything but AMD should just make a compelling gpu everyone wants to buy....

That being said this is still kinda meh

I can't speak for anyone else but for me it just doesn't do anything meaningful over we've had for 2 years at a similar price.... It does more interpolated frames I guess.

I'm doubtful I could tell the difference between this and a 4080 in a blind test with just DLSS quality selected at 4k making it's entire selling point in the here and now MFG.

Raster is one component of GPU performance. See, you've already introduced the first asterisk, it's "better" (which isnt actually better, the two were effectively tied at launch and more recently the 4080 keeps pulling out wins) but only in raster. Introduce any RT, and it becomes a very one sided argument.

DEPSITE this, the 4080's sales were dissapointing (anyone else remember the stories about the 4080s slow sales?) while the 7900xtx was unobtanium for months after launch.

The 7900xt, you're just plain wrong. It was $900 at launch, remember? The 4070ti was trading blows and was $100 cheaper, and beat its arse in RT. AMD shot themselves in the foot with pricing games.

The 7800xt, like the 7900xtx, was unobtanium for months after launch, it's biggest issue was being 5 months late to the market, which at that point had been saturated with nvidia since AMD just didnt bother launching a competitor when the market was hot. Despite that, the 7800xt sold REALLY well. Again, with that same asterisk that you only care about raster.

You nailed it right there. AMD isnt playing on a level field, they are playing on one field (raster) while lagging behind everything else, and wondering why being slightly cheaper isnt moving units like it used to.

The 7900xt was $100 more then the 4070ti, imediately DOA, and the 7800xt (the best selling 7000 series card) launched 5 months after the 4070 did.

I just don't get AMD. They design GPU's with Sony, right? They should know where the market is going, but somehow their DGPU is always years behind even the consoles that they themselves help build.

Maybe the GPU group should report to the semi-custom group.

I agree it's kinda meh, but it's kinda meh when you compare nvidia to....nvidia. Compare it to amd it still looks like a slamdunk of a card. At this point nvidia self preservation kicks in, I don't think they want to hit 99% marketshare and monopoly laws kicks in. JH is desperately trying his best to give amd some space so they remain relevant but they keep tripping themselves somehow, i don't really know what the heck is going on over there.

At least this time around, they focused on RT and upscaling. They still tripped over and hit the ground but their design goals were exactly where they should be.

It's definitely an awkward time in DGPU history it started last generation but we are no longer the focal point and likely really started with Turing.

I mean it's looking like the 5070 is going to be Uber bad so if AMD can't conclusively beat that will they ever beat Nvidia smh.

Do you want to explain why this card received a "highly recommended" award then? It's also very hard to have a conversation with anyone thinking this card is a 40% performance uplift over the previous gen.
"The average gamer cares about RT and upscaling, raster isn't a requirement to enjoy a game no matter how much reviewers say how necessary it is. See reviewers and influencers are always trying to promote Nvidia, don't fall for it".

I fixed it for you, now it sounds less silly.

I'm here commenting because I care about how bad the state of the gpu market is, you're here telling everyone the card is fine when it's not. If it were a 5070Ti for $700 it would be a lot better.
I care about graphics but it's not everything to have a game worth playing, RT alone doesn't have me throwing money at my screen.
This whole act of "oh woe is AMD you would never buy it because you love nvidia" became tiring a month ago.
And the whole act of "AMD sucks they can never compete so just buy Nvidia" got tiring years ago, but here we are, I just never expected reviewers to seriously say it.

AMD have repeatedly, officially pointed out that they're targeting the mainstream this generation. In tweets, in marketing, in their investor day presentation deck... All of their late-2024 marketing noise was about how RDNA4 would offer 7900XT+ performance for the price of a 7800XT and that their goal was to claw back market share.

They could screw it all up still, because AMD's marketing department is provably incompetent, but I think that means the 9070XT was originally intended to be a $500 part +/- 15% or so depending on how the price and performance landscape turns out at launch.

With the 50-series reviews pouring in now, it's clear that Nvidia have left an unguarded goal - and RDNA3's biggest two weaknesses (FSR3 and RT performance) are supposedly fixed. I can just see cogs turning at AMD board-level "what if we charge waaaay more than we planned for RDNA4 after all?".

AMD need to take a profit hit this generation to win back market share, just like Intel are clearly making miniscule margins selling Battlemage at $250 - and they need to get production volumes up and distribution/availabiliy absolutely ironclad to manage that. I'm doubtful they'll achieve any of that, based on their historic track record, but it's essential to their remaining in the GPU race for graphics (rather than AI).

What a bad GPU market state we are into... Total stagnation in vfm for more than 2 years and things will get worse since there are people that will try to buy those products (limited stock will make them more willing to). That called 5080 is a 5070 having half the cores of the 5090. And still nVidia tries to sell it for half the 5090. People have forgotten that the halo products always used to be of bad value but the lower tiered ones were MUCH better. Now nVidia made the next in tier than their halo GPU being 3 tiers behind in performance but only 2 tiers behind in pricing. They did so with RTX40 series but today became as a sunny's day sky in Greece what they try to force into the market. Customers beware. Once we stand against those practices, they will be forced to take us seriously and re-price their products. Leave the halo products for only the ones with unlimited money or limited brain. The rest of the market is defined by the popularity's buying decisions. Anyone remembers when nVidia tried to sell us the 4070Ti as a 4080 and took it back 2years ago? Also, AMD was forced to reposition the 7900XT by lowering prices ultra fast after they went on sale. The same should be done again with the 5080 once none buys it.

It's highly recommended cause it's the best card you can buy at that price point. I don't even get how this is hard to understand, a person looking to buy a GPU and wants to spend around that kind of money, stumbles upon this review, the badge informs him that this is the best he can buy right now. If you think there is something better, please, share it with us.

I never said it's a 40% performance uplift. I said over 40% perf / $. For every $ you spent, the 5080 gives you 40% more performance than the 4080.

I'm here commenting because I care about how bad the state of the gpu market is, you're here telling everyone the card is fine when it's not. If it were a 5070Ti for $700 it would be a lot better.

You do understand that the 7900xtx, a card that was laughably bad next to the 4080 got the exact same badge as the 4080 (editors choice)? WHAT kind of conspiracy theories are you into my man? Stop it, it's all in your head, I promise.

No no no. You must compare the 5080 to 4080 and not 4080 Super. What you're thinking is:

4080 to 4080S: $200 discount, hence a sizeable perf/$ uplift
5080: no price change and only a 12% perf/$ uplift.

What you must think in your head is the 4080 Super for $1000 never existed and 4080 for $1200, you know the one that was rotting in shelves throughout the world, is all you ever got and this is 45% higher perf/$

AMD have repeatedly, officially pointed out that they're targeting the mainstream this generation. In tweets, in marketing, in their investor day presentation deck...

Sorry I forgot the /s tag, I didn't mean AMD will launch 9070XT at $800. What I meant is, defending the 5080 by saying this is a 40% or whatever uplift compared to the 4080 is the same as defending a 9070XT if it was 10% faster than 7900XT and launched at $800 since that would also be a massive perf/$ improvement over last gen. But we all know it would still be a terribly priced video card because it's being compared it to a terribly priced predecessor that it replaces.

5080 is supposed to replace the 4080S, plain and simple. And comparing gen on gen, it's a hard fail. There are no two ways about it.

Ive always wondered. @W1zzard why dont you include 3080Ti in reviews? I dont think you are the only one, just found it interesting.

I have one and planning to get a 5080 tomorrow. I can still guestimate the uplift, but still.

I think if you wanted a 4090 which tbh has been hard to get at msrp even before the 50 series , at least now a 5080 pretty much fills that gap at a much lower price point provided you didn’t need the additional memory and bus bandwidth

Tbh I’m more bothered by the 5090 being $2k than the 5080 being $1k even though they’re both overpriced
