Benchmark Scores bench score are for people who don't game.
Skipping this Gen. This reminds me of the GTX680 to the 780. Practically zero hardware improvments.

I might consider if I were on a 2080 and wanted to upgrade. I don't like when the "next gen" hardware hasn't brought any innovations or true hardware performance to the table. Blackwell is basically Ada with some GDR7 Vram and some cores unlocked.

Benchmark Scores 3050 scores good 15-20% lower than average, despite ASUS's claims that it has uber cooling.
So:

+5% SM cores
+30% mem bandwidth
+12.5% power limit

So 4080 was no bandwidth limited.
Which makes 5080 = 4080 super duper.

In the link you just posted it says "transforms visuals significantly".
Yeah. In those 30%.

Did you check actual benchmarks, cough? On this very site, cough?
I guess not. Let me help you:

RT performance is really inconsistent across titles. The 7900XTX lost a whopping 9% vs the 3090TI since the 4070 review, even getting beaten by the 3090 when it was 15% faster before.

AMD's weakness make NVIDIA to be greedy
With TSMC posting record profit after record profit, I think things are more nuanced than that.

That's because nvidia never actually improves RT cores, they just "add moar"
It's been like that since the first gen of RTX gpus.
I love when people just make stuff up on the internet, it's so funny.

The 3060 had fewer RT cores than the 2060 and performed better than the 2070.

The 5080 RT benchmarks are dragged down by identical performance with the 4080 in Doom Eternal (which is very lightweight) and a driver bug in Elden Ring. You take those games out (or at least Elden ring since it's obviously broken atm), and you'll get a better representation of the new RT cores and increased memory bandwidth.

Can you give more details on the multi monitor power draw?

(Is that with two monitors, or 4 4k 144hz monitors?) I'm really interested in numbers for it fully loaded.

There's certainly a big difference in that set up between my 3090 versus my a2000 or a2000 ada. Because of that I often don't even have the 3090 plugged in.

we're 4+ years into a massive tech bubble powered by crypto and AI and until it pops everyone is going to be taking a cut of the profits

I wouldn't call the performance inconsistent per se. @W1zzard changes the games on the testing set from time to time. That makes the earlier reviews out-of-date.

It's not really inconsistent. It entirely depends on how many effects a game is using. The 4080 is around 45-50% faster than the XTX in RT, but games (namely, the amd sponsored ones) don't use a lot of effects or they run them at 1/8 the resolution (RE Village for example), and obviously in those cases the 2 cards are much closer.

And he said 5070>4090.
What joke.

Thats what happens when there is no competition.
He did specify "Impossible without AI" but yeah Blackwell is definitely not where we expected it to be :(

This is so funny.
When the 4080 was announced people lost their minds because Nvidia was trying to sell the heavily cut down 12Gb model for 900$, the outcry was so great that they made it the 4070ti and 800$.
Now they do the same thing but don't release a model in between the 5090 and this, and no one bats an eye.
Nvidia learned from that mistake, consumers didn't, hell Nvidia can even charge 100$ extra over the MSRP of the "4080 12Gb" (200$ over the MSRP of 4070ti) and everyone is happy.
Just because there was no outcry doesn't mean nvidia is going to have any more success than if there was an outcry.
You'll have to check the sales for that. $1000 for any computer part is too much, so anyone who buys such a thing must convince themselves it's worth it somehow.
I have no idea how anyone will convince themselves a 5080 is worth it, in the same way that a 4080 wasn't either. These are simply rip offs. If they aren't sexy, they won't sell, unless the market is held captive (which it sort of is)

You take those games out
If you cherry pick games, you can influence results, no scheisse, Watson.

No RT improvement was reported by pretty much all reviewers.
the amd sponsored ones
Let me check the list.
Mm...

Alan Wake... wait, green sponsored.
CP2077... hm, again greeen sponsored
Control (notable for it's crappy perf on AMD GPUs as well as well as year 2005 looks)... oh wow, also green sponsored.

So in all titles that are green sponsored, the gap somehow stands out.

Probably just a coincidence... :D

This result was apparent when the specs were posted. 5% more cores and 34% more memory bandwidth. The gains are right in the middle. These official results should surprise no one.

Question for W1zzard, if he hasn't gone insane from this thread of uninformed takes on every side and blatant misrepresentations of his review.

What's the plan for evaluating games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, or Doom: The Dark Ages, that require hardware ray tracing? Will they be added to benchmark suites (maybe replacing Doom Eternal since they use the updated engine)? And if so, will they count as RT benchmarks or be included in the standard benchmarks?

Presumably this is only going to be more and more common.

No, it's not a coincidence, nvidia allows the devs to push RT , amd doesn't cause their cards will get exposed. Why do you think nvidia sponsored games look better with RT than amd ones?

No transistor node improvement over the previous gen. 5080 fps gain comes from GDDR7 and overclock. This card is what the 4080 should have been back in 2022 and priced appropriately at $700

AMD fans been huffing that "Nvidia sponsored" copium since Crysis 2 to excuse AMD's failure to make truly competitive GPUs

Pathetic. 15% performance increase? I do like the reviews here and at The FPS Review, though I am not sure a "Highly Recommended" label is warranted for what seems to be the worst generation on generation performance increase in how many years?

Similar to GTX 770 but worse than GTX 580! It's a clear refresh nothing more.

Really good question, for the short term they will be included in the RT section, and not in the "regular" games list. Eventually these two sections will be merged, because RT will become the standard, and I'll have separate summary charts, avg all, raster only, rt only. At least that's what I came up while thinking about the problem. Happy to discuss this further, start a new thread please

Yea got to agree with you with this. But...

Have I not warned you what the future holds with Negreedia (throw in AMD as well) ?

Take ER out of there and the difference is still very little. Hell, give ER an additional 20% and the overall difference is still tiny. Just like raster, but somehow just as bad or worse.

@ people arguing about AMD and Nvidia sponsored RT games - it's understandable that one will push it while the other will use less of it and not much different from Tesselation a decade ago. I personally don't see a point in shoehorning RT into a game to the extent that performance gets destroyed for very little IQ gains especially because most times those IQ gains are also absent. Either way, eventually RT will be baked in the game engine and that's how it should be. Lets see what they do and how they implement it a few years down the line.
