So, anybody try the game out with the new 64Gb patch that just came out? It was a great game and I wonder what the patch fixes and adds to the game now since I did not know that they even were going to put another patch out for it.

Developer notes​

This Patch unlocks the Haunted Shop mission previously available only to Sony platforms on all supported platforms, as well as all previously exclusive items and cosmetics, including:

  • The Onyx Hyppogriff mount.
  • the Felix Felicis Potion.
  • the Shopkeeper Cosmetic set.
It also includes new, never seen before cosmetic items, AND a new broom:

  • The Lavender Borealis.
  • The Azkaban Themed gear.
  • The Circular Taped Spectacles.
A Photo Mode has also been added to allow players to capture screenshots of their Hogwarts Legacy experience and all their newly unlocked cosmetics. *Photo mode will become available after completing the mission to gain access the field guide.

In addition, this patch also provides players with a talent point reset function, to re-build your ideal Witch/Wizard without having to start a new playthrough. Multiple bugs have also been addressed (Details below).

Localization​

  • Implemented several updated localized Voice Over retakes for Japanese and Spanish.
  • Fixed the Brazilian Portuguese translation of “Silver Rim Spectacles”.
  • Fixed a Typo in the “Wingardium Leviosa” French spell description.
  • Fixed several Voice Over cut-offs throughout the game.

Audio​

  • Fixed several Voice Over cut-offs throughout the game.
  • Fixed instance where the SFX/Dialogue Volume would become louder than the music Volume while using stereo devices and being set to 50%. HL-12010

UI​

  • Fixed instance that made player unable to select field guide pages’ options when accessing the menu while holding down the basic spell cast button. HL-1052
  • Fixed instance where loading a Manual Save or Fast traveling to certain locations would cause alohamora prompts to disappear from magical beast cages. HL-6258
  • Fixed instance where Dark Arts spells would become not equippable after equipping regural spells in loadout 1. HL-643
  • Fixed instance where the mission icon for the last arc of the Broom race would linger on screen after completion.

Navigation​

  • Fixed instance where Professor Garlick and Professor Hecat could get stuck moving in the air after leaving the hospital.
  • Fixed instance where a loading screen would cause a cage door to lock up again without regenerating an alohamora lock on it in a bandit camp on the north end of the map. HL-16327
  • Fixed instance where loading a save and fast travelling to any location would make alohomora locks disappear from fixed cages. HL-6258

This ruined the game for me. Graphics look completely washed out (RT on or off) and I am getting crash to desktop in 1-10 minutes on 3 different machines in my house.

The Graphics look washed out for me all the time but I haven't wanted to look for lighting mods to fix it yet. Did you install a mod to fix that a while ago that the update broke?

FWIW I've played for a few hours on 2 different machines (Intel/Nvidia and all AMD) with no incident.

FWIW I've played for a few hours on 2 different machines (Intel/Nvidia and all AMD) with no incident.


The only mod I did was removing the fog/haze which did a lot to give the colors more "depth" and just made it look a lot better overall. Its just an .ini tweak.


no other mods done. I did an uninstall/reinstall on my main 13th gen rig, but didnt check to see if the .ini mod stuck or not. I could try removing it and test again.

My crashes were on 10th, 12th, and 13th gen Intel stuff, all Nvidia 30/40 series GPUs.
I tried to underclock my 13th gen/turn off XMP, etc. Nothing solved it.

If you waited 4-5 minutes and it was still black screened, first thing I'd do is disable the Nvidia overlay. If that does not work some reported that disabling shader caching fixed it -

  • Win+R
  • enter %appdata%
  • navigate out of Roaming
  • and go into Local/Hogwarts Legacy/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor
  • Open GameUserSettings.ini with your prefered editor or similar (its treated as a .txt file)
  • Scroll down to [ShaderPipelineCache.CacheFile]
  • beneath it, add r.ShaderPipelineCache.Enabled = 0
  • should look like this

You're not wrong. It's more to see if it gets the game working. Can go back and enable it afterwards. Disabling the overlay works for some, hopefully it works for homie here.

Good to read you fixed it. Are you saying you are concerned that every time you update your Nvidia drivers you will have to do it again?

Good to read you fixed it. Are you saying you are concerned that every time you update your Nvidia drivers you will have to do it again?

yup, i am very concern abot that.

also, today there is the latest nvidia driver + update patch for this rpg pc, in steam PC, lot of people, screaming that their game is crash tod ekstop/error, whay ? what is happening in here ?

*i am still not install the latest nvidia driver, today.

Installed newest driver today and Hogwarts Legacy played fine for me, with all the advantages of the DLSS Transformer Model at 1440p/60 DLSS quality on a 3060. Vertical and horizontal line flickering (stairs especially) is gone and everything else looked good.

I never had to do any of that. I am regularly using DDU to completely uninstall drivers as I swap cards in and out (from AMD, Nvidia, and Intel) every ~2 weeks so if I was going to describe my system I would say it gets clean drivers on a very regular basis. Maybe try using DDU to remove all GPU drivers and start with a clean NVIDIA GeForce 572.16 WHQL install.

Seems like the new update turns on 2x frame gen by default. At first I thought they did some optimization and the game was running better, but then i realized, even if you dont mess with your settings, its on by default. I had to turn "on" dlss in order to disable 2x frame gen then turn dlss back "off" in the menu. Now my frame rates are back to what they were last week. and the raytracing still sucks. the hair on your character goes crazy when you turn it on. they went crazy with the reflective surfaces like its 1999. Frame gen still sucks too. The UI elements flicker and smear when its turned on.

Developer notes​

This Patch unlocks the Haunted Shop mission previously available only to Sony platforms on all supported platforms, as well as all previously exclusive items and cosmetics, including:

  • The Onyx Hyppogriff mount.
  • the Felix Felicis Potion.
  • the Shopkeeper Cosmetic set.
It also includes new, never seen before cosmetic items, AND a new broom:

  • The Lavender Borealis.
  • The Azkaban Themed gear.
  • The Circular Taped Spectacles.
A Photo Mode has also been added to allow players to capture screenshots of their Hogwarts Legacy experience and all their newly unlocked cosmetics. *Photo mode will become available after completing the mission to gain access the field guide.

In addition, this patch also provides players with a talent point reset function, to re-build your ideal Witch/Wizard without having to start a new playthrough. Multiple bugs have also been addressed (Details below).

I think its enabled by default if you have the latest updates. If you have the individual ray tracing options exposed, you should be good.

I have reluctantly been playing with DLSS, RT, and frame gen after the latest update. Since it looks like I wont be going 50 series, want to squeeze out some more performance out of this game. The glitches with frame gen seem to disappear if you use DLSS quality along side it. Going from 80 to 114 FPS just by switching to DLSS quality mode (no frame gen). Really hard to tell a difference.

I'm now playing this game on far more meager hardware (6700XT). From what I can see the upscaling looks fine in static shots, but it can be very noticeable when moving. Basically, pan and the edges of the player go soft, and you get the random light artifacts everywhere else. I'd much rather avoid that since it's so distracting.

I was really getting to the point where I thought I could use upscaling, but then i did notice some shimmering with certain trees. Turn it off, its stable. No such thing as a free lunch I guess.
I still plan on using it on my 4080 bedroom PC since I play on 4K TV from far away and the 4080 struggles more than the 4090. And frame gen is still crap even with DLSS on, my above statement was premature. So really the only good thing to come from AI is DLAA IMO.

I remember trying frame gen on forbidden west. Granted, it was on a 5600XT, but everything just went to mush. I think your faster hardware will hide this better, but it's still not rendering the scene. It's really surprising to me that NVIDIA introduced raytracing, which aims for accurate lighting, and then frame generation introduces challenges to that very concept. Eventually it's just time to go back to raster, because it seems like we're still just approximating the end result of photons.
