That's a loaded question, who is "you"? What is the monitor of this "you", what games are "you" playing.
Oh sorry. Ok If I didn't. And I play game that you see in reviews. And others.

I think youre assuming everyone already owns a 4090. Try going from no graphics card maybe? A used 4090 is over 3400 aud - a 5090 can be purchased at 4100 aud provided you have the patience. A 4080 is sold at up to 1700 aud.. a 5080 starts at 2000 aud which is almost as fast as a 4090. The entire market is in the shitter, again blame the scalpers not the hobbyists.

If someone has no graphics card, then that someone has no PC at all.

That means, if they want the best, they will put together a PC with a 5090 and it will come out to around 5k to 6k.

I am sorry, I am going to criticize that.

I have news for you, these people think they are pushing the boundaries of tech, but they are not. They are pushing the boundaries of something else though, but pioneers of bleeding edge they can pretend to be all they want, they really are just dolts.

Look at my post above: How about a 7900 XTX for 860 GBP?

It's not the market, but Nvidia's artificial stock manipulation.

Its 1100 aud right now which is great but it wont be the card for enjoying 4K 120hz. 4080 can barely do it, 5080 can with reduction in visual fidelity, 5090 will be the first card to be able to do this comfortably without any “magic”.

I'm not talking about the 5090. I'm also not talking about 4K 120 Hz. I'm talking about a 5080 that went for the equivalent of $3,100. You can't seriously consider that a sensible buy.

I have a 6750 XT that I'm planning to upgrade soon. But not with a $1000 card for $3100.

Don't take my comment out of context, please.

I was honestly going to snag a 5090 if i actually found one in stock on release day.
As of now im kind of glad i didnt find one, the hype is wearing off for me and i saved $2k lol

Guess you live in murica - in the rest of the world it's more than 3k. Utterly insane pricing.

I am sorry, I am going to criticize that.

Criticise away, I also have news for you, there are people not with deep pockets who spend way more on non tangible goods like gacha games, the 5090 AIBs is just an exhaust system for car guys to put into perspective and will eventually cost a mortgage deposit. There are people making money not to survive, but on themselves for whatever reason it is …

@freeagent - So it's either 5080 for $3100 or nothing for you? Wow. Just... wow.

Ah yes no 5080s are readily available in a week or two time, who the f*ck is buying at 3100 (AUD I hope?) LOL. 2k AUD is a great price in AU being way less than a 4090 used, but at 3100 AUD a used 4090 is a much better option. These are the people who buy from scalpers that just fuel this sh*t show I have no support for that.

Did you see the post I was replying to? A 5080 selling for the equivalent of 3,100 USD. Now tell me that's not the same as flushing money down the toilet.
Buying a scalped card is dumb, absolutely, not sure how I missed what you quoted.
I think it's really weird how you agree they are not good value, but you go on a long tangent and take offense to him saying it's like flushing money down the toilet, which is obviously dramatic effect. Does it really bother you that much?
something being a bit overpriced is not flushing money down a toilet. Evidently I missed the highly specific context they seem to refer to with insane scalping tripling the cost, just as perhaps you seem to understand I'm talking about MSRP value?

In Aus we're used to getting royally boned on tech, $2019 AUD for a 5080 relatively speaking, actually isn't a shithouse deal, believe it or not. And for what feels like a change, cards are being listed at MSRP.

Here on Amazon 7900XTX still stings a bit:

Screenshot 2025-02-02 091031.png

But they took that $4500 5080 off and replaced it with this gem that they allow you to make payments on

The #1 primary reason why prices are so high and continually increase is due to the fact that we have a small group of people that can never have enough money. Imo, a lot of the inflation is artificially induced in that whenever & wherever a reason to increase the cost to the consumer presents itself(i.e. the opportunity for big corporation executives to make more money), regardless of how it affects anyone outside of their circle, they jump on it like flies on dog shit. Unfortunately, this is the world we live in and nothing short of Armageddon is going to change it. :kookoo:

I've noticed this years ago in the pharma industry when I saw a cancer drug that was developed in the early 1960's costing over $3000.00 USD for a 30-day supply in 2009. Because of my background in chemistry, I knew that just for the ingredients alone the pharma corp is only paying about a tenth of that, and that's without assuming the ingredients are purchased in bulk at a cheaper discount. Resolving the racemization of stereo-isomeric mixtures during synthesis of the given compound, maybe another $20-$100 USD. Reason? Good old pharmacy "cancer tax". Its no different in the computer tech, petro, auto, or food industries. heh, and now we're going to be seeing even higher prices in the near future with tariffs and such flying about. Looks like someone wants to be filling their pockets in a hurry. ;)

What are you talking about? The XTX is a 4K card. I've had mine almost a year and I comfortably game in 4K, usually at max settings.

What are you talking about? The XTX is a 4K card. I've had mine almost a year and I comfortably game in 4K, usually at max settings.

I am talking about 120fps at 4K for the most demanding games like cyberpunk without using upscaling or tweaking the graphics settings. The 7900xtx is a great card otherwise dont get me wrong :).

Even if I forget about the 5090, I still can't go by the fact that the 5080 offers the same performance at the same price as the 4080 Super. Zero generational uplift in either performance or price.

Besides, I was talking about the one selling for $3,100 in one of the posts above. Geez, guys, just read my post properly, will 'ya? Or do you think buying a 5080 for that much is normal? :(

The uplift is 200$ lower price or 16% less cost at 16% better performance 5080 vs 4080. perf$ has certainly improved.
For the first few months it's like this and we have people who are paid to sit in line and then sell for a profit. The society is broken what can we do.

Cheapest gpus right now in EU.

RTX 5080 - 1485€ (alarm! it's a true piece of shit)
RTX 4080 Super - 1116€
RX 7900 XTX - 924€
RTX 4070 Ti Super - 828€
RTX 4070 Super - 660€
RX 7900 XT - 635€
RX 7900 GRE - 546€
RTX 4070 - 546€
RTX 4060 Ti 16GB - 493€ (alarm! it's a true piece of shit)
RX 7800 XT - 489€

Here AMD has better p/p ratio overall.

a lot of those prices suffer from 2 things:
stock of the 4000 is done and they are more in demand
no one cares for the 7000 cards

forget the new ones, and buy a 7000 used, they are been given away in comparison to any nvidia card
i've seen 7900xtx for 550 eur, cheaper than the 4070 super ti
