But does indiana jones run ultra with high RT on 16gb amd cards? If not, what's the point you are trying to make? Im confused here. For example, from PCGH - ultra + high RT at 4k, the 3080ti smokes a 6950xt. With PT on the amd cards don't even work, what future proof are you talking about?

The 3080ti is a 12gb card btw

I wonder if FSR 4 etc will improve RT performance on previous gen cards?!

FSR 4 will (probably) only work with the new generation RDNA 4 cards. It has nothing to do with RT performance either, it's a better upscaler than FSR 3.
I read that they plan on releasing it for previous gen cards down the line.

I'm thinking maybe something unified like this for increased ray tracing performance (software vs hardware ray tracing?!)

What better products? Can you not play your games on an AMD graphics card?

This is exactly the mindset the post above yours was talking about.
No you are talking fanboyism. AMD can’t fold, AMD is not productive, all you can do is play games with it. If that’s all you want to do then go buy one lol.

Wow so you mean we cannot be using discord for AOE 4 multiplayer because we are running chinese rx580 2048sp and have been for 5 years in our personal machines. We must be superiori human beings able to do that without nvidia broadcast.
Running any card you want is fine, NV, AMD, chinese 580s, doesn’t matter - that’s absolutely a personal choice. That being said… Playing AoE 4 over 2, though, is absolutely diabolical and a sure sign of being a twisted being with psychopathic tendencies.

(I can’t believe I have to say this, but this is a joke and my attempt to make the thread less salty overall)

I get that, I live on coffee myself. :D

But my point remains: AMD suffers no quality issue compared to Nvidia unless you absolutely, inalienably depend on CUDA for work.
In fact, Nvidia seems to be suffering from a lot more quality issues recently by the looks of it.

That was supposedly the same with 3070 vs 6800 when they came out in late 2020, then in 2023 everything was already different. Just like Indiana Jones is not running on ultra with high RT on the 12 gb cards and it's a 2024 game, not in the future Sure if you want to get a new one every other year you can burn money on nvidia cards. I value long term life of the cards and texture quality more than high RT on.
the problem is not PT but artificially inflated texture pool size, read the posts you're getting in response to your theories. high/ultra/ultra high/supereme look the exactly same, up close or in distance, while requiring almost 1.5-2gb more/less vram (and a 40GB texture pack). I did like a dozen imgsli comparisons to be 100% sure.

I wonder if FSR 4 etc will improve RT performance on previous gen cards?!
fsr4 is hw locked to rx9000

Man, please watch the video i posted, it has nothing to do with modding texture packs. The visual difference with missing textures on the 3070 is the most alarming thing. Average customer does not mod the game and my personal experience is the exact opposite, when i have an older card with low vram i am forced to set new games to low textures that is the main hit to visual quality.
You want to rant against textures being too big on new games, go on, start building mods to decrease them. If you want to pretend higher RT effects are more impactful than high res textures on a game look, you are free to fool yourself.

The problem is AOE 2 is too hard for us old blokes that want to play "casually" on the weekends. We used to be average online at that 15 years ago (17 minutes to castle age i recall was the mark), now we are totally hopeless there. I also enjoy the new nicer visuals and i like to have my hobby time also double as stress test for clients machines.

how is 3070 related to those 12gb card problems you're imagining ? the texture packs I spoke of are part of the game, not a mod. I uninstalled mine since it makes no difference whatsoverer.

I see you are going full circle - pun intended. You change to a question i already answered previously. I also find so funny the lack of fps counter on the PT vs RT images. One thing for sure - they do look different but i can't say wich one i prefer, so i'd go 100% for the one at higher fps. The texture image you posted - same exact FPS.

of course path traced vs rasterized is gonna get different fps, why even compare...... you're looking at path traced GI vs rasterized GI and can't say which one has physically accurate light/color bounce, shadows and ambient occlusion ? lol, I haven't seen this much denial here for a while, not even among the most outspoken amd fans.
same fps on textures - duh.... the difference is 1.5 GB vram usage between high and supreme which look exactly the same. But you're just refusing to acknowledge that time and again.

“It’s possible We can optimise it so that it works in the RDNA 3 architecture. And we are, we want to do it, but we have work for now,”
good news, especially now when 7900xt/xtx are a much, much better buy than 4000/5000 cards. I guess rdna2 will be left in the dust since it doesn't have AI hardware like rdna3..

Maybe so for now.. do you watch any of those GPU repair videos on the toob? cant remember how it goes, Nvidia makes good cores lousy boards, Amd makes lousy cores and good boards? Something like that..

@WhenMusicAttacks let me illustrate something to you that very much concerns what you said about amd being so much better under $1000 thanks to vram for rt and textures.
back in 2020 I placed an order for a 3080 10G, but the card wasn't available and the retailer kept me waiting forever. So I made a fuss and as a form of compensation, they gave me a 250eur discount on a 3060Ti 8G. I promptly took the offer, given I was using a 1070 which just wasn't good enough anymore. 3060Ti ran great, until I bought Dying Light 2, which looks pretty poor unless you turn on RT, which transforms it entierly. I mean it's like another game. The problem was, 3060Ti often ran out of vram in some areas, despite good performance in others. It either stuttered or dropped to 20fps. My choice was either lower textures or get a different card. I took internet's advice and traded the card for a used 6800 someone was selling. The problem was, the card could easily fit everything into the vram, but turning on the same settings (incl. RT) dropped into 40-50 fps when 3060Ti was getting 60-70 fps when it wasn't hitting vram limit. So, in hindsight, the internet was wrong, medium textures with RT would have worked out better on 3060Ti than max textures with RT on 6800. Indiana Jones is an even clearer example, since texture presets are almost identical from medium up to supreme.

Here's medium textures + full RT (path tracing) vs supreme textures with rasterization. Both use about 11.3GB.
Am I really wrong about RT being more worth it than textures ?

Maybe you are slow enough not to notice the fps difference, but to me running over 60 0.1% lows is more important for realism and experience than a slighty different light implementation. The number of GB used does not worsten my game experience if you have nough vram, as the fps counter on the screenshot you posted clearly shows. Looking at distant dark corridor is totally pointless to evaluate the texture pack, i want to look at a map in front of my face to compare the impact of that, but sure it doesn't take away FPS therefore it's free quality as long as you have it. You would need to look at the video i posted to see the difference of lack of Vram where missing textures are replaced by nonsense flat gibberish.
I leave the exact part of the video for even the slowest person to notice:

Yeah, the FPS number, see the video i posted and please stop. There are reliable sources that make this kind of content providing evidence. If you have your video recording to show us what you talk about, please show - not hiding the inconvenient FPS counter of course.

The screenshot without FPS counter is again totally useless. I do not want to watch powerpoint slides, i want to enjoy the game. Vram gives almost free visual fidelity, actually totally free from your own screenshot data.

as the fps counter on the screenshot you posted clearly shows.
comparing path tracing vs rasterized for fps is about as stupid as it can get. We are at a point when both brands will run rasterization like it's nothing, but only one doesn't drop to unplayable level when full ray tracing is used.

I am civilzed enough to talk about facts and not resort to insults. so I ask again, what does this old ass video about 3070 8G have to do with 12GB cards ?

No. Nvidia makes a lot more money in the enterprise market. They aren't a GPU company for video games anymore.
doesnt amd also make more money through servers and such?

why would nvidia leave the gpu market with 90% control?

curious if intel will deliver higher level gpu, cause that b580 is doing nothing for me. when they bring a 4070/4080 level, Ill take interest. hopefully amd will wake up too.

You are writing and posting some pictures with no fps counter. I provide video evidence, as this is realtime graphics we talk about, not powerpoint/pictures.

here is some actual FACTS.

The fact that you do not understand that VRAM usage goes up and that old video about 8gb is now relevant for 12gb cards aswell is sure related to your problem noticing lack of textures and smoothness.

For the fifth time, it's not full RT, it's texture pool size. Textures look exactly the same from medium up, while guzzling vram like crazy on higher presets. Drop them to med-high and see how that 20 FPS turns to 80 with zero quality loss. I played 40 hours of this game, tested settings thoroughly, texture presets on Bethesda games make zero sense, just like in DOOM Eternal "ultra nightmare" textures were nothing more than placebo. You can't tell them from lower presets even with a slider comparison.
