I think we need to replace the word "stupid" with the word, "unwise".
"Stupid" is the good word, imo. People being brainwashed on misinformation thinking that they know what they're doing. That goes for both people in power and those who vote on them.

Meant no offense to you of course. I would not disagree in many cases. However, not everyone who is a part of the existing problems are stupid. They're smart people many of them, who are being mislead and misinformed. We need to fix the underlying problem and make punishments & penalties for spreading inaccurate and misleading information to the public as valid news. We accomplish this and many MANY of our problems in society will start to go away.

I don't disagree, but we'll never accomplish this as long as we never even try. And why would we try? Misinformation generates more clicks and ad revenue.

The other thing is that there's way more stupid people out there than smart ones. As long as we vote by majority, stupid people will always have their way, and all of us will suffer the consequences.

It's not as defined as that. There are in fact many subtle levels of intellect in the world. The problem is that we have no way for those with the brains to assert leadership in a consistent manner. Honestly, the only way we are really going to fix things is if we limit leadership roles to those who have provable intellectual advantage. But even then things will never be perfect because, at the end of the day(any day), we're all human and imperfect.

The real key is in education. A well educated populace, is a strong and stable populace.

But also one that's hard to manipulate with misinformation. We don't want that. We want people to be obedient consumers of bullshit.

I see your point of course. And that's yet another problem with true progress. Those in power want to stay in power. They don't want to trust in and yield to the will of the people they control. It's the pathetic reality of the world we live in.

True. But what's the will of the people? How do people feeding on misinformation know what they truly want?

What's that mate?? Can't hear you mate?!

People living near Land's End have been advised to buy earplugs due to a lighthouse's broken fog alarm.

lmao, I don't know why but this amuses me immensely. of course it would suck to live there, surely the UK has its own version of a coast guard and just get that fixed asap

Nah bruv we function like Japan but at slower rate, we need to discuss with the higher ups and then somehow find some money.

And then struggle to find a seaworthy boat to get the workers to the lighthouse.

I'm guessing they have to drop someone on the lighthouse by helicopter. I couldn't imagine trying to land a boat on those rocks.

Oh that will cost too much too. Let's just throw it in the list of options.

Why doesn't someone shut it off until it can be fixed? Seriously? It's not like the lighthouse internal power, some find the breaker box on shore and flip the damn switch.

Here's a typical UK list of options for any problem:

1. It costs too much.
2. It costs too much.
3. It costs too much.
4. The only people capable of pulling it off have been fired because employing them costs too much.

TBF, intentionally disabling a warning signal - even a malfunctioning one - probably comes with a lot of liability nobody is willing to take on. After all, it "failed safe" for passing vessels.

Do any of you guys know of any PC repair shop that can fix things down to the component level?

Basically, I have an Evga 2070 that works fine until it doesn't - it spins its fans up to 100%, and drops all connection to both the displays and PC. It happens randomly, regardless of use or load.

It's a nice card, and a part of my Evga collection, so I wouldn't just want to throw it into a skip if it can be saved. :ohwell:

This guy here

He even has a YouTube channel and has repaired GPUs before

I would not hesitate to send my broken kit to this guy for repairs

Tell him one of his YT viewers recommended him. He'll be happy to hear it.

::EDIT::

Just as point of note - Its not a guaranteed fix but he has repaired a hell of a lot of laptops and other electrical things so he knows his way around a circuit board and how to diagnose issues.

He might not be able to fix your card but I think your best chance and probably your only chance as I dont know of a Louis Rossman that lives in the UK. He will give it a proper try.
