I am trying to run 4k 144hz on this s90d 55 inch.Using hdmi 2.1 48gbs aswell.Getting this black out and type of screen tearing
Any idea why?Could it be excessive load on the gpu? Thanks
Link for video reference

Try a different cable. Could also be settings related miscommunication although it appears tv doesn't like PC signal it is receiving.

It is because of interference of other signals. The more refresh rate the more vulnerable signal you will have. Try to set 60hz just to see how this glitches would drastically be reduced.

Samsung S90D series support full 48Gbps bandwidth on all HDMI ports, and the RTX 3070 Ti supports HDMI 2.1 at full bandwidth as well, so your problem is probably the cable. 4K144 pushes HDMI 2.1 to the limit, although it will still support full refresh rate without DSC or color compression - it just makes a high quality cable very important to have. Buy a certified HDMI 2.1 cable. I personally use the Club3D CAC-1372, has treated me well, used it with the RTX 3090, 4080 and will be using it with the 5090 as well for my LG G3 OLED.

Costs around $25 on Amazon, sometimes a little less. Cables specifically built for "144 Hz" aren't a thing, just HDMI 2.1 ultra high speed. That's all you need for these newer 2024-2025 TVs.

Which by no means is stating a cable is bad in any way. Experience says some devices are highly selective.

Hehe I was figuring out why my laptop wouldn’t change the refresh rate to 120hz and only limits to 60… checks cable… hdmi1.4….

Fair enough, although a certified cable is always more on the side of hit than miss. That one has treated me well, it's affordable too so I recommend it :)

Never hurts trying to plug it into a few different ports on your tv. Or reverse cable direction. Basically try to eliminate as many variables as possible at every step of troubleshooting.

Im using this cable https://gembird.com/item.aspx?id=10999&lang=en
It's supposed to be certified but i dont know, really seems a bit cheap comparing to the one listed here

I looked at the page and something was conspicuously absent, all HDMI Forum certified cables come with a sticker on the packaging that looks like this:

The QR code provides a lookup for the HDMI Forum's certification app, if the data returned matches, the cable is the genuine article. The cable you have looks to be high quality on the surface, but anyone with an actual HDMI Forum certification is definitely going to flaunt it in their marketing material. Considering the low cost and amount of headaches you'll avoid, I'd probably look at a replacement if you can't get it solved. A good way to figure out if you are having cable quality issues due to bandwidth is to simply set your screen resolution and refresh rate to something mundane like 1080p at 60 Hz, if doing that makes the issues stop, there you have it.

Yep for example at 1440p no problem turn it up to 4k 144hz and it goes crazy
So you think the cable is not truly certified ?

I think it doesn't matter. (Without fail every horribly cheaply made cable has packaging littered with official certifications while in the past quite a few decent ones didn't because approval was pending.) What matters is it's not capable. Try getting a known verified cable from a reputable seller with good return policy. Still a chance this is tv HDMI port issue.

@Dr. Dro Wasn't contradicting you with my first post so don't feel I am here. Downside of living in a capitalist paradise is you see the bulk of it all. Particularly effects of official stores within retail outlets going from selling a projected small steady number of something to millions.

I think your cable matches the second point.

I don't think it's the port, especially considering the info that lower resolutions and refresh rates don't act up. The S90D is a high-end OLED set and all of its ports are full 48 Gbps bandwidth. I think it's worth buying another cable, considered it's only 20 bucks or so.

Yep screams cable issue to me. I can vouch for the Club 3D cable being legitimate, other brands you may also find, Cable Matters, Cabletime and KabelDirekt (German, generally only available in Europe) are all cable brands I've heard good things about. Remember you can always verify a cable is genuine and officially certified by HDMI Forum by scanning that sticker with their app. These are practically guaranteed to work.

Which Nvidia driver are you using?

Which Nvidia driver are you using?

I'm fairly sure it is not a driver issue, very easy to rule that out though, as any input source with sufficiently high resolution will show the same problem. Not sure if the PS5 or Xbox support 4K120+ output, though, or if OP has either of them on hand.

Im running the latest drivers not sure which tho I'll try replacing the hdmi first
The only reason i mention it is because a lot of people have had black screen issues on that latest driver, including myself. However, it does seem like it was only a displayport issue. They issued a hotfix and that has resolved it. As you are HDMI it's highly unlikely but just thought i would mention it.

I updated the drivers with hopes of maybe fixing it but still the same problem

Mind you, S90D has full support for 4k@120Hz Chroma 4:4:4. 3070Ti is HDMI2.1 if I'm not mistaken. As many said before, most likely the cable is the culprit.

Also, check the drivers settings - Display - Resolution (in Control panel, NOT Nvidia app), for your case the output should be set to Ycbcr444 (at 120Hz), for 144Hz 422.

P.S. be sure that the HDMI port you're using on S90 is supporting the PC mode.

Will check this aswell. The s90 will turn to pc mode so i think its recognising the pc

Either the cable is crap or the TV doesn't like it, in either case the cable is the problem. Replace it with a properly certified one, don't bugger around with drivers, don't bugger around with NVCPL settings, just pony up the cash for a proper cable and your problem will be solved.

If boredom is really high you could try exploring cable on hand in other ports as well as reversing where each end is plugged in. This does work sometimes believe it or not.

Tried this but still at first worked for a bit then blacking out and things

Tried the cable on a monitor and 4070ti same hz no problems
