Hi, so I recently made my 5th build with this graphics card, everything was working perfectly fine until some days ago... I woke up and tried to boot up my PC like everyday, the PC didn't boot into windows and my screen was black, I tried to boot up again and it booted up into windows but after 20 seconds or something like that my screen flicked green cubes or something similar and the screen became black, I switched the graphics card bios mode from Overclock to silent and it worked perfectly fine for some days until today, I tried to switch back again to the overclock mode but the screen is black in both bios modes. So I decided to disconnect everything and take out the graphics card, I looked at the pins and the pcie slot and noticed that the slot has thermal paste inside, the thermal paste is dry... I just don't know if the thermal paste fucked up my Graphics card but it seems like it, can someone tell me what can I do to fix it please? Also a pin on the graphics cards seems to have a different color from the other ones, matching the place on the pcie slot that has thermal paste. I bought the card 2 years ago and it was used, it has never been cleaned or maintained since I got it.

Nuke drivers with DDU and amddrivercleanup while in safe mode. You'll need to use something else for display out. Card and slot look fine.

I don't know if that will work because when I managed to boot up the graphics card I made a fresh windows 11 installation and installed the latest graphics drivers on the AMD official site. I'm sure that the slot has thermal paste because that Gray color is not normal

Breadboard your current system.

Try card in another system, if it doesn't work there contact northridgefix for a pcb repair.

Get a RX 6400 to test and make sure your motherboard isn't damaged.

Or better yet go to a shop so you can make sure (damage their stuff instead of buying parts just to damage them)

I'm a nutcase and wash my boards with isopropyl alcohol, normally to remove flux.
You don't say?

Totally understandable if it's a lot.

As others have said
can try
-99% isopropyl (rubbing alcohol)
-confirm in tight in slot
-try another pcie slot
-make sure elec connectors in tight and that pins/cables good
-try another display cable or another monitor port

AMD has their own driver uninstaller utilty

I cant remember what that YouTube GPU repair guy said..

AMD makes good boards, shit cores, Nvidia makes shit boards and good cores?

Something like that.

Lots of stories just like this one on the internet.

I think northwestrepair said that. I have heard that quote before but not entirely sure who said it originally.

You cpu has an igpu and your motherboard has video outs. you don't need the gpu just for basic display function.

yes. Clear cmos (take out the battery and leave in out for a few minutes) then replace the battery and try the motherboard video out WITHOUT the gpu inserted in the computer.

I must be missing something. What is the advantage of putting thermal paste in a PCI slot?

I'll try tomorrow but with the same battery since the motherboard is new and battery shouldn't be a problem bro

The point is to clear the cmos. Disconnect the power from your computer, then remove the cmos battery, leave it out for a few minutes, then put it back in. I did not mean replace it with a new one.

Nah fr idk what happened but I didn't noticed that some thermal paste went into the pcie slot, my fault fr but I'm trying to fix asap, I want to play with my friends again, it is sad to see all my friends connected on discord voice chat but can't play with them...

The point is to clear the cmos. Physically remove the battery for a few minutes, then replace it back into the system....not "replace" it with a new one.
Yeah I got the "replace" wrongly

What kind of partying is going on with you and your friends, slinging thermal grease everywhere?

It was a new motherboard? Was there grease in the old one too?
