I'm kinda shocked people are happy at all with this generation.
Me too. But not surprised, the hype around these cards.. this was expected.

As I mentioned in a different thread, some are looking at the non-XT wrong. Take someone like me, who doesn't have a big enough PSU for the 9070XT. Which card do I buy? If I go with the 9070XT, I need a new PSU, too, so that's another $50-100. Now all of a sudden, the 9070 is a considerably cheaper in-place upgrade. If you already have enough PSU, or you're doing a new build, then yes, the XT is the obvious choice.

That said, I do wonder how much the non-XT will overclock on the average. Even with 7000 series, near-3000MHz is pretty accessible on AMD GPUs. Also, looking at reviews, the 9070 is about 90% of the performance at 70-75% of the power consumption of the XT. It's also about 92% of the cost of the 9070 XT. It's probably all moot though, as we don't know what supply will look like, and AIBs are already going way past MSRP.
In fairness, the OP's system specs show they have a 1200W PSU, but your point is still valid. The OP has many things to consider.

Me too. But not surprised, the hype around these cards.. this was expected.
To be fair, these new Radeons are a solid step up from the previous gen, especially when we factor in the MSRP.

The cards are simply not available in my area yet, but according to gamer's nexus the xt is about 10% faster so the pricing does make sense, if msrp holds true, which is still a question mark. 9070 is supposedly very efficient though, so even if prices don't match up, I can still see use cases for it.

Honestly It would be different is 50 series was actually good and then these cards put up a similar fight but let's be real the whole 50 series stack is turds when it comes to a generational improvement vs literally any other generation with only the way overpriced 5090 offering a noticeable improvement.

Don't get me wrong all of these cards perform fine they just really don't offer anything meaningful over what we've had for two years already with the 5070 being the biggest turd of them all

Personally I just hope this generation is a one off but I get the feeling that we are going to start to see generations more similar to this going forward. Bummer but it is nice to see AMD at least kinda catch up in RT and upscaling.....

For anyone getting a shiny new card though I'm super happy for them. Regardless of what is on the box.

I might check out AMD when the dust settles... lol.. maybe :D

Just had that feeling I had when I left Intel lol

Things seemed so grim over the last 2 years, but wether you wanted nvidia or amd you were better off buying a 4080(s)/4090 or 7900XT/XTX on the many specials/deals they were going for during that time.

Here a 7900XTX went on special more than once about a year ago for what thr 9070XT launched at. Similarly there were 4080S consistently cheaper than 5070TI today and 4090's for less than AIB 5080's.

Im happy that my unique concumstaces netted me an upgrade, but far out what a depressing generation all round.

You mean brand ? what I can get because there will be few
Yeah, brand and particular model. You just need to choose that card that looks best to you visually, assuming you have a case that show the internal parts. If not, then it's a performance only question for you.

Nvidia is giving Donkey Shows right now, cant make a proper GPU.. busy.. heehaw.
ROFLMAO!!!! Oh good grief that was great!! I'm laughing so hard right now that I'm crying actual tears..

Yeah. All the posts I saw "just wait till next gen." So many people must be regretting their decision about now. I'm not sure what lesson to take away from this. Last gen it seemed best time to buy was right as next gen was coming out. But this time production was stopped. I guess best time to buy is... mid life...? When the refresh is released if there is one, maybe?

I guess we'll see how things turn out. Will nvidia cards ever meet demand? Is it intentional? Can amd and intel keep their products in stock?

Holycrap in my country I can get a 9070 for something like $950, or the 9070XT for $ 1150.
I have a RX6800 (love it) but i´m interested in the 9070. 250w power limit, small card with 2 coolers. Looks good to me =)

Coming from a 1080TI, I was first targeting the 5090 but couldn't get one on release day which I'm very mich thankful with all the issues regarding nvidia lately. I also couldn't get the 9070 XT I was looking to buy on release day and now this news that second batch of cards will increase in price . If that happens, for the first time in my life I'm gonna buy a console to game on. Fuck gaming on a PC.
Ok well do it then

WOW have you been holding out...

Not surprised

20 series massive price bump
30 series unoptanium for 18 months
40 series massive price bump for 80 class
50 series lmao

RX 5000 didn't really compete
RX 6000 unoptanium for 12-14 months
RX 7000 kinds just like 40 series just slightly worse
RX 9000 ok but only because 50 series is poop.

Although the smart play would have been a 4070ti super a year ago....

Will surely do IF they increase in price when they're back in stock.

WOW have you've been holding out...
RTX 2000/3000, RX 5000/6000 series didn't really interest me. I was gonna upgrade to a RTX4000/RX7000 series but my job required me to be on the road most of time so I skipped that gen thinking it'd be a waste to buy something that I'll probably game on 4-6 days a month? I've moved up the work ladder and have more time to enjoy gaming so I thought I'd finally upgrade. Only things missing now is a GPU and a monitor and I am hoping they don't increase in price when they're back in stock.

Ok, fair enough.

Ok, that's very logical.

RTX4000 might be worth the look at the moment. However, if you're going go AMD, choose the 9070, it's the best value ATM.

Yeah, we're ALL hoping that.

prices are now officially just as bad as Nvidia in my country, the msrp is nothing but a dream and costs of cards between nvidia and amd are very much equivalent, so it's even more egregious the price hikes with amd. Not that there are many to buy or choose from anyway

this also effects the used market, just like it did during covid/crypto, you can't even get a reasonable deal on a used card

Make sure it will fit in the Case you already have, or you might need to buy a bigger case too.
Some of these are as long as a 5090

MSRP to MSRP, the XT simply offers better price/performance.
This will probably change a few months later, when the non-XT cards are piling up on the shelves of stores. I'd get an XT at the moment or wait for price reduction on non-XT.

If online retailers cared about bots, they would limit card purchases to accounts which buy other items.

Having bought one at seconds after release time, I was eyeing the order status all day. I just read all the posts here, and it looks like I was a lucky one. I have the feeling scalping and bots will be the future forever.

In my country this can be done and some other ways but online retailers sadly do not really care they sell, make money they are happy is the only thing that really count for them to stay in business...

We're at launch. As always, wait for dust to settle.
There are a lot of gamers here so I recommend people play Hearts of Iron 4 to get a sense of how production actually works in the face of intense demand.

That is a complex WWII strategy game, you make the armies, command them, equip them with different equipment that you have to assign factories to. Each factory adds a base amount of production to whatever equipment (guns, artillery, planes, tanks, etc) it is assigned to. Each day that the factory remains assigned to that equipment, it gains efficiency (more output per factory, the input costs stay the same). I will provide an example and round the numbers to make it simpler.

So on day 1, a single factory may add 2 rifles per day to the national stockpile. If that factory remains assigned to rifles, the production will rise eventually to 16 rifles per day. The player is implicitly planning to have 10 divisions ready in 4 years, so the appropriate number of factories is assigned early. The problem arises when the player is not anticipating demand correctly or there is a miscalculation with the production curves. If there is a wartime need for 20 divisions in 4 years, now the player only has half the production capacity of rifles he needed.

Usually the player has to remove factories from other equipment and re-assign them to rifles in excess to meet zero-day demand. This is a very sub-optimal way to produce equipment because the factories eventually scale up to full efficiency and you now have too many rifles and not enough tanks/planes/artillery.

The military can plan for production in this long-term manner because budgets are stable over the long-term and there is no incentive to have a lack of production because you will lose a potential war. In non-military production, budgets are not stable at all, and a lack of production often means greater profits.

TLDR = The new GPUs are early in their production curves and supply will catch up to demand in the long-term as it always does.
