Surprisingly the guys over at TweakTown have posted a full featured review of NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 512MB G92, almost two weeks before its official launch scheduled for December 11, 2007. From the quick look at the article I noticed that the G92 version of 8800GTS outperforms the current top seller 8800GT 512MB in almost every benchmark. doesn't seem to give significant enough gains to warrant a price over $300 if ya ask me

from what i see it looks like an oc'd 8800gt with a larger heatsink and fan

If there were plenty of 8800GT's in stock, this card would have to be very carefully priced to be successful. But oops! It just so happens it's ridiculously hard to get ahold of a GT right now, so lets go buy this! I'm sure its all just a coincidence, not something nVidia planned =p. Also won't 256MB versions of the GT be available relatively soon? I wonder if the 512 GT's will become scarce and mostly replaced by the new G92 GTS.

I highly doubt we will see the GT's available for the price they're supposed to be at for quite a while. It's too bad they just can't focus on making the GT, make sure it's retailers are selling it cheap, and NOT go and slap a larger cooler that costs them a few bucks to make, and sell the card for 100 - $150 bucks more!

Ah I did not know that, interesting to know. The only GT in stock at NewEgg is currently on sale for $299.99. Anyone taking bets to guess the price of the new GTS? I was gonna guess mid to upper $300's, with prices increasing after the first batch sells out to maybe low $400s?

TBH, nVIDIA are just taking the piss now! They are flooding the market with different 'flavours' of 8800 series cards, yet limiting the stock! As we all know this forces the RRP of the 'supposedly' cheaper card (ie the 8800GT 512mb) higher so nVIDIA and the retailer makes more cash

& to think I wanted 2 of these cards Im just better off getting 2x 8800GT 512's

depending on the price I still might go for it as im all for the Dual Slot Cooler so im potentially saving myself more then 60 UK sterling for aftermarket cooling. them thermalright HR-03's can be really expensive here & Im not happy paying so much for 2 of them

I Just finished reading the review & the review says that it takes almost 321watts while on load

So If I have 2 of these cards. & my current setup, would an 800watt psu do alright or should I look at the 1k wattage line??

I feel as though nVidia is kinda manipulating there customers. Seeing as how two different variants of the 8800GTS exists. The G92 and the G80 and the majority of nVidia customers will only know that the 8800GTS is an awesome card, but won`t know whether or not their actually buying a G80 or G92, so they might end up with a much slower card.

I think the only reason why nVidia isn`t changing the name, is for this exact reason, to trick customers into buying the older version, so they can get rid of unwanted stock. Probably also the reason why there is limited stock.

If you're ignorant enough to spend that much money on a computing component and are not sure what you're getting, then you got what you deserved.

As for the test/benchmarks, there's no Crysis results yet, and as sad as it sounds that's what I'm looking for them to compare, as it's the most popular and demanding current 'real world' application.

I could give a rats ass how these cards play HalfLife 2...

Meh, pretty huge power consumption increase over the GT... considering not all that big of a increase in performance. I'd still get 2 GT's or HD3850's instead of these.

Looks like the performance over a GT is fairly weak, considering you can clock your GT fairly high, the difference would be then negligible, granted the GTS will clock all so, no need for GT owners to sell up for a GTS.

I think he posted that in the wrong post lol, he meant that new 1TB Drive was not worth the money. He must have a lot of tabs open in his Web Browser or something and got confuzzled.

Am I the only one to be suspicious of this when the only pics that there are is one consisting of a piece of paper that says "you know what to do" and another pic with a cd with the words "play me" written on it. I'm calling the BS flag on this one.

I havent owned a modern gfx card since never, but you dont have to be an expert to realize that nvidia is pulling crap out of his sleeves and throwing that right at ya...
The card seems to be more than ok, but they(nvidia and amd) seem to be forgetting about customers and making a real effort to kill each other with new cards. And THAT takes a lot of money, and that mone is drained from your pockets...

LMAO....I have been saying this all along! there seemed to be this initial hype in here about the GTS....all it is is a higher clocked G92 with a few extra shaders, it's max overclock is not likeley to be any higher than the 8800GT (unless of course significantly more voltage is fed to the core but even now there is a simple voltmod for the GT available), so running both cards at the same speeds we should see what? I estimated around a 10% performance increase across the board due to the extra SP's and higher stock clocks for how much? around $100, speaks for itself really. Now if it has extra voltage to the core and is capable of say 825Mhz then we are talking serious stuff and money well spent IMO.

Yep, it's the best marketing scheme I've seen in a long time. nVidia knows that there are tech junkies who just have to have the latest, the people who pursue even a 50 point increase in their 3Dmark score.

I say let them do it, flood the market and make everyone rush to buy these. It pushes the prices of the older yet still exceedingly capable 8800 cards down whilst it also raises nVidias revenue for them to release the next gen of cards. Which means that when the next worthwhile cards do come out, they will be worth buying hopefully. That is of course given that nVidia actually are doing this scheme to get more revenue for their R&D team and not just for that platinum plated toilet the boss wants.

I don't know about that - it looks like the prices for the 8800gtx/gts lines are still about the same as ever, as well as the hd2900xt. I don't see the new releases pushing down the prices at all of previous cards, not until you get a full generation or so away from the current top-end tech. Like the x1950 series is only now becoming cheaper a year+ after they've become 2nd or 3rd generation tech.

Also, there has hardly been any "flooding" of the market. Quite the opposite.
