Max I've tried on stock cooler was 877/1400 but I'm pretty sure with the HR-03 GT on there now I can push to 918/1400, possibly more on the ram.

I'm able to keep the card 100% GPU load @ only 33*c right with this HR-03 GT and a 120mm fan on it... It helps it clock... :D :toast:

i have a full cover EK water block - temps around 30 at full load, I could get it to boot and run 918, but it would fail after an hour of gaming or so. Thats not good enough for me. need 100% stabilty@!!

For my testing I do this:

  1. First 20mins of ATi Tool Artifact Tester, core and ram tested independently.
  2. Then I loop 3DMark 2K6 for at least an hour @ Max resolution, Max AA and Max AF.
  3. Lastly I game for an afternoon, either CoD4, Hitman Blood Money or Crysis.

If it fails at any one of those steps I'll go back and start the whole process again... :banghead: :D

Ya see I take the attitude that the MAX clocks I bench at should also be my 24/7 settings and so I insist on 110% stability. I fold 24/7 on several systems and as such can't afford for them to be unstable. This bleeds over into the graphics because if the graphics cause a crash I'll probably lose the WU being processed.

Meh...I just prefer to know it's stable! :D

I do some stress tests, i usually just run crysis for a couple hours to test the graphics. And then run orthos for two hours.. from my experience, if orthos fails, it always does within 30 minutes. But that just me :p

on topic, tomarrow im going to try and push my system a little further on air. Maybe i can break my best score of 19.1k

hey, you cant argue though, Im doing much better now at 1.3 volts at 3.5 then I ever was - if Im not mistaken it was you who was giving me crap for running such a high voltage through mine!!

Im loving this voltage too - idle 24C and load 36C (average on the cores)

I played with mine, and I could run at 1.37 @ 3.6, it crashed on me after 20 minutes of prime, so i feel I would prob need about 1.4. But Im happy at 1.3 for 3.5ghz. When i bench Ill kick it up to 1.57 and 3.8 ghz. Im hoping with my x38/x48(when I get it - which cant come soon enough) that I will be able to hit 4 or 4.2 ghz. Im prepared to run crazy voltage through it, but id prefer not to, I guess Im hoping my new board wont suffer from vdroop as bad!

the maximus formula, im not sure if it has a vdrop. im going to try for 4.0ghz but i don't want to push crazy volts through it. i have enough cooling and the TR Ultra 120E so i should be good.

Actually my cooling concerns me. Im not sure if i have it right.

edit: looks like it's roughly .03 vdrop

i have a water system with a 220 mm rad and a 320 mm rad, with 7 fans blowing through it, and when I get to 3.8 my temps are still in the 60's. I hate 60's, I really dont like 50's that much either. But hey, for benching and maybe the hour or 2 to stabilize, I dont mind too much

good air flow, I would have to guess youll do a good job of cooling the q6600, I got all my radiators cause of my e6600, that thing got HOT, my q6600 isnt as bad, thats another one of the reasons I love it so much!

7 users that have an x2 crossfire system, man I would love to see those scores!

EDIT: this was sarcasm because the poll says 7 users with x2 xfire and I dont see any systems posted with it!!!!!

dude, honestly for the price to performance, the q6600 rules!!

AND NO OFFENSE TROG - PLEASE BELIEVE THAT!!!!

Trog is the one who says that a quad is useless in todays gaming rigs, its only for benches and gloating.

And honestly he is right.

But if you can get your quad to 3.8 I promise youll be more than happy.

I recommend you look at those everest results I posted earlier - that will give you a good feel of how a q6600 at 3.5 will perform

sweet dude, Im really excited to see your numbers!!!

Now I dont know whats been my problem, I thought my q6600 needed this insane amount of voltage to hit 3.6 or higher. Well it might, but I wanted to see how high I could get my ram, and how I could get my proc without going over 1.35 volts.

I was very impressed with the results - VERY!
Q6600 - 3.51ghz
Gskill DDR2 @ 975mhz (rated for 1000) but my P5b Deluxe sucks

sorry to leave them like this, but its too big for TPU - you can DL my results here check it out!!!

heres the post, check it out, it will shed some good light on the performance of the q

Asus Maximus Formula *Part 2* *Help / Overclocking / Guide*

That is a link to my Maximus Formula thread @ XS, more than enough info in there to get you peak performance, settings, every bios so far, user experiences, tweaks...everything!

And the vDroop mod, tiny pencil mod, takes 2 seconds. But if you enable Loadline Calibration you should get next to no vDroop anyway unless your PSU isn't up to the task of powering a Quad?

dude, honestly for the price to performance, the q6600 rules!!

I recommend you look at those everest results I posted earlier - that will give you a good feel of how a q6600 at 3.5 will perform

course i am right but the new 45nm quad is gonna rule the 2006 benches..

the problem is price.. u need one with the higher multiplier..

if super 2006 bench scores is what matters.. the new higher multiplier 45nm quads are gonna rule the day..

the cheaper lower mulitplier ones.. well they are gonna be motherboard and ram limited.. if your mobo and ram will do 500 mhz.. a 9 x multiplier will be needed for 4.5 gig..

if your mobo ram is good for 450.. the cheaper 45nm chips aint gonna get the clocks needed..

but the chip should go up to 4.5 gig if the other things let it.. at least for benching.. 4 gig should be easy for 24/7 use..

am i gonna buy one.. no.. cos the best 2006 scores aint that important to me.. but to those they are.. a new 45nm quad is gonna be needed..

a 6600 at 3.8 gig aint gonna cut the mustard any more..

trog

ps.. top 2006 scores are not about price performance.. they are about performance.. the price becomes secondary..

Specs added.

MF1004 is indeed Beta, it fixes a lot of the problems for the 45nm CPUs but not much else IMO. Before flashing to this Rampage bios I used the 0505 after testing every other bios because 0505 gave me the best performance per clock, least bugs and best stability with an uptime of several weeks before I rebooted it. Anything over 0505 seemed to give intermittent reboots regardless of system stability. I could Fold/Prime/OCCT/Everest Stress 24/7 and had done, and then it could crash when Idle... :banghead:

Since going back to 0505 this problem went away again!

the power of two 3870 cards is now totally 100% cpu limitted in 2006.. higher scores are gonna come down to who has the fastest quad core cpu.. why is quad needed.. purely cos of the multicore coded cpu test.. the game tests.. single threaded a fast single core chip would bang them out qiuck enough.. quad is no gain at all in those.. pure cpu core speed wins the day..

just as long as folks know the way it works.. most dont seem to..
