My 3870 is dead. :banghead:

I'll be back with some numbers soon but for now I can't afford to replace it.

The vmod came loose again (I don't know whether it's crappy solder or the wires not taking the solder properly) and by the time I'd attempted another repair there was nothing left to solder to. The pin head sized solder pad was so badly damaged from repeatedly trying to fix it that I just couldn't do it again.

I'm going to keep trying, I'm sure I can find some way to do it, but if I carry on atm I'll just end up breaking the card out of frustration...

Man, kup! That IS teh suck!

We've burried many a good card around here, but it doesn't make your loss any easier.
(Sheesh, I'm gettin' all sentimental about hardware....I'm such a pud.)

Hope you get back up-and-running with something a little more, how do you say....ballsy!:laugh:
 
Man, these 3dmark scores with single 3870's make me tuck my tail between my legs. I dunno if its me or not, but I got 50fps in 1680x1050 Medium quality in Crysis and I've seen comparible q6600 powered rigs get around 40-50fps. But then their scoring 13k with a single card while I'm scoring 13600k or so with a crossfire setup. Strange?
 
Unless you are concerned about benchmark numbers, your rig is still killer. Your "real world" numbers attest to that!

Enjoy your system, it's badass. If you want to move up the ladder in this microcosm of benchmark scores, go Intel.
 
^^^ true. I was hoping to score closer to 15k when I got the second card in. I'm in no way sad about the addition, i just benched Crysis and I'm definitely happy. In 1680x1050 HIGH quality, I got 33fps. Thats pretty damn awesome because I normally play it in 1440x900.
 
Well me and Dr. have come to the conclusion my diamond has Crapped out on me.

You were and have been VERY helpful and i appreciate this. I need this card fixed again, but this time, i don't want it back. I want a check for my expenses, and the cost of the video card. I would much rather have a check by Diamond Multimedia than a replacement card (again) so i may purchase another video card from another manufacture. I have trouble shooted this from every possible option, to drivers, to over heating to even to much core clock speed. i have dropped the core over 100mhz usint ATI tool and set the fan speed to 98%, yet it still crashes 3dmark 06 and artifact in Team fortress 2, a very low end game!

Im not sure how you will go about doing it, but please, do your best to satisfy a very annoyed customer.

I'm sorry for your loss.:( Today here I am thinking, I need to hardmod my cards to get past the 877 barrier (btw, your HIS Modded bios helped me a bunch!). I think I'm not going to go that route anymore. I haven't even pushed my quad core yet, and I'm about 143 points away from hitting my "happy" score in 3d06. Sigh... Again sorry bout your card.:toast:

it doesn't matter what clock speed or drivers. it crashes no matter what and artifacts in tf2.
we thought maybe it was to much straign on the NB but thats not it, i thought not enough power, (but im running one card so not an issue) so yeah. Im not really sure.
 
That sucks freaksavior. I'm sorry to hear that. :( What percentage were you running your cards fans at btw? And what application are you using to control that?
 
Uck, I just had to flash back to my old bios due to my display/card shut down in the middle of typing something here! Well, I guess I know what works, for now..:ohwell:

Because we have all become very bios happy lately. I am done editing and flashing my cards. The HD4xxx series is just around the corner anyways. I'm buying Sapphire next time around.:cool:

it didn tby chance "green screen" on ya did it?
 
No, just a no signal on my monitor. VPU recovery didn't kick in either. I have a feeling I know which card is doing it, what's wierd is it's the cooler running card of the two, but it just can't handle anything apparently over 837mhz. I'm content with it now...:)

My new issue, it doesn't happen all the time, but turning the monitor off and back on will fix it. Or minimizing and maximizing the game a few times. It only happens when i launch a 3D app, but not all the time. Only when the sceen flashes a couple times when you open a game, I'm thinking this is more monitor related though?

very impressive single card dual core score!!!!

Makes me think about a e8500 :)

I actually just got a q6700 for 299 at the egg!! They just dropped the price :) :)
 
Finally!!!

I have been gunning for this high ever since I got my volt mod done.
This was done with 1.87 volts to the videocard. water cooled and a 120MM fan blowing over to board keeping it cool(It was HOTTT to the touch)

FINALLY I get my #1 spot back on the 3870 list!!!

Now I go back to 999core, I feel like keeping this card for awhile:laugh::laugh:

comin, the highest I can keep them both is 1040 core. But thats fine. They run that at 1.57 volts :) and the temps are nothing! like 45-50 max!

OHHH hey get this, I have my q6700 comin tommorow! This will help with my xfire score, so I can keep a steady 4ghz(hopefully :))
