HDDs shouldn't be too much of a bottleneck, although it depends. The fast 7200rpms today will provide plenty of speed for most apps. And of course, the sata interface is far from reaching its bandwith potential. SSDs should be somewhat reasonable in a year or so also, and that should eliminate all hdd bottleneck.

Gpus? I mean, those are for games really or other graphic stuff, in which they operate you could say on a somewhat seperate paramater than the cpu. Gpu's don't bottleneck everyday processing.

Yeah, I think cpu-z just isn't updated for nahalem yet. I can't remember what its called, something transport I think.......

by something transport you probally mean hypertransport, that's an AMD thing.

CPU speed is an issue only if you use low resolutions, low detail levels, antiquated shader model, etc.. What use does the additional couple hundred frames per second have? Why should you want your game to run at 200FPS and look like crud when you could bump up the details - and run it at 50FPS?

CPU is simply dead. GPUs have vastly more potential, but they're not perfect... That's why in few years we'll start seeing CPUs that look more like GPUs.

Well, I couldn't say for sure, but that seems like that is absolutely untrue. It makes no sense to assume that a gpu is 100x better than a cpu in data processing, yet we use a cpu to handle all these tasks. Show me some links w/ info.

It is capable of performing similar tasks as a cpu, but w/ that logic the gpu is becoming more like the cpu, not the other way around. I know you didn't say 100x better, you said 100-0, which I don't know what you were implying really.

last I heard it was '09 as well . . . I guess it depends on what AMD coughs up, and how much Intel decides to sandbag themselves.

CUDA is a software layer that allows almost anything to be run on a GPU. nVIDIA has demonstrated folding and video encoding using CUDA interface and a high-end GPU. Over 3GHz Yorkfield had no chance against the GPU.

GPU-like CPU, or CPU-like GPU - this is just semantics.

Now THAT is a quad. That settles it, I won't be investing in a quad until nahalem. And thats a middle of the road chip, comperable in market to my e6750. I bet that baby hits 4ghz on air w/o much trouble. Nice.

I am guessing that showing a multi of 20 thats an unlocked ES sample....but look at that FSB! damn, am I reading that right? cause if I am then that chip aint going anywhere near 4gig.
