Poor evil nvidia :kookoo:

RTX 3060 Ti - 4864 shaders, 8 GB, 200 watts
RTX 4060 Ti - 4352 shaders, 8 GB, 220 watts

So, 4060 Ti will be slower and yet more power hungry? :kookoo:
No way will the 4060 Ti be slower than the 3060 Ti. Will probably be similar perf to a 3080, just with 2GB less ram, and DLSS3 support.

The 4080 has slightly fewer shaders then the 3090 and a narrower memory interface. It still ends up ~20% faster.
The 4080 has 736 GB/s BW, thats good, this 4060ti only uses DDR6 at 18gbps with a 128 bit bus and BW of 288 GB/s, way down from 448 GB/s of 3060ti

This seems more what a 4060 should be.

The original 3060Ti which the 4060Ti compares to also uses GDDR6. So it's apples-to-apples.

GDDR6X is pricey...
But they're already selling RTX 3060Ti with GDDR6X memory (which, according to a report, should replace the vanilla GDDR6 SKUs)... All in all these GPUs look weird, even more so if the previous rumours about the 128bit memory interface are confirmed, bandwidth would be halved when compared to the RTX 3060Ti GDDR6X (288GB/s vs 608GB/s), I wonder if the larger L2 cache would be enough to compensate.

It won't be anywhere near a 3080 if these specs are accurate. More like somewhere around the 3070 or 3070 Ti, with Nvidia shilling it hard through DLSS 3 benchmarks. Keep in mind that we still have the regular 4070 to come yet. That'll be the card that slots in at 3080-ish performance.

Calling it now: 3070ti performance for 3070ti money but 2 years after and with a crap power connector. Now with fake interpolated frames! It's safe to upgrade.
4060ti will be slower than 3070 non TI

Maybe, but I'd say these specs are inaccurate. Memory bandwidth seems way too low. 2060 was about the same as a 1080, there was no 2060 Ti. 3060 Ti is faster than a 2080 Super though. So I hope this isn't a step back, surely they'd go for 3070 Ti perf as a bare minimum.

They won't go back - it's profiteering, they will simply rebadge the RTX 3060 Ti and call it a day. They don't even need a new chip, just new stickers on the boxes, 10% overclock and it's ready.

It will clock about 1000MHz higher so I bet we get about 40% higher performance or about 3080 performance :)

Probably more like 700MHz higher. But the memory bandwidth needs to be wrong in this "leak". It's too restricting.

It depends. QHD has half as many pixels as UHD, so you need half the bandwidth to push the same frame rate.
Personally, I was already avoiding 128bit memory buses 10 years ago, I'm not going to jump all over them now.

Oh dear, 8GB for a card that's lauching Q2 of 2023 and expected to be relevant until 2026?

At 1440p I'm using 7GB+ VRAM on my 3070 in a number of 2021/2022 games. Hell, even Doom Eternal from 2020 is 7GB. Let's just hope they repeat the 3060's 12GB configuration for the 4060.

Performance doesn't scale in this way. Many tests in the most recent reviews show very negligible performance decreases with improved resolution.

For example, Forza Horizon:

2160p - 103.7 FPS
1440p - 136.9 FPS
1080p - 149.3 FPS

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT Review - Forza Horizon 5 | TechPowerUp

Personally, I was already avoiding 128bit memory buses 10 years ago, I'm not going to jump all over them now.

Bits are irrelevant, what is important is the type of memory - GDDR7, GGDR7+, etc will be very wide even with 128-bit link.

Let's compare RTX 3090 Ti and RTX 4090.

RTX 3090 Ti - 10752 shaders at 1860 MHz
RTX 4090 - 16384 (52% more) shaders at 2520 MHz (35% higher)

Net performance increase: 45%.

So, RTX 4090 has 52% more shaders at 35% higher clocks and yet manages to return only 45% higher performance.

Not the same architecture as stated earlier. Not comparable. Scaling also isn't linear with more cores: the maximum examples of this are Radeon Fiji and Vega 10, both 56 CU and 64 CU variants performed exceedingly close to each other.

I believe that 4070 is 5% slower than 3080, so 4060Ti 128 bit is nowhere near.

Oh noooos
As long as one can buy the cable separately and has a modular PSU no biggie. But in all remaining systems this is forcing people to use the ugly version.

With these values, even counting the 3080's insurmountable high clock speed advantage, the classic performance will be equal to that of the RTX 3070 or 3070 Ti.

Not a single comment about 4GB less of video memory, hm. Sniper Elite 5 uses up to 15.7GB of video memory, is the 4060 supposed to be a 720p card?

Unlikely, both AD106 and AD107 are rumoured to have a 128bit memory bus configuration, if this is confirmed Nvidia is seriously cheaping out on this popular segment. I hope that at least this will translate in better prices compared to the Ampere generation, but I'm sceptical...

Why are you hung up in specs? Isn't real world performance what matters regardless of how it's achieved?
If someone released a fast GPU with 128-bit memory bus with a very high speed, wouldn't you consider it?
Or if someone released a quad core CPU which kicked the a** of 8-cores, wouldn't you buy it?

We are likely to see faster GDDR6X/7 soon, perhaps even with this generation.
