MSI Closely Monitoring Intel 14th/13th Gen Stability Issues, To Release Firmware Updates in August

Regarding the recent Intel Core 13th/14th Gen Core desktop processor instability, MSI has worked closely with Intel to understand the situation and is closely monitoring the progress. We will provide the updated BIOS to our customers and users as soon as possible after the new microcode is released in the middle of August. Stay tuned.

Keep checking the Support section of your motherboard's product page on the MSI website for UEFI firmware updates, or use the MSI Center utility.

Seems like the problem is due to the single rail intel uses. The Pcores and ecores are fine at higher voltages but these higher voltages degrade the cache. This seems to align with some testing I posted a couple of weeks ago on 12th gen, anything at or above 1.4v immediately degrades the cache.

Whoever is experiencing issues with 13/14th gen, try downclocking the cache to 4 ghz and see if it fixes the issues.

I wonder what can MSI do when they or the article said that "MSI closely monitoring .... stability issues". It is not like they can do anything when Intel is not fully addressing the issue.

That makes sense, since Intel did try to blame mobo makers before admitting degradation was a cpu issue.

They could refine their Bios so it doesn't exceed Intel's power specifications, like many do.

Probably true. Though both P and E cores dont need to run at that voltage though to be stable at expected performance targets. So if you can keep core voltages from to those levels like that than it should preserve the cache at the same time.

Updated bios and firmware on MSI z790 gaming plus wifi. 14700K

Presets

Intel stock specifications nerf the living daylights out of the cpu. 253w like 13k only CBR20.

Intel extreme spec runs the cpu near old performance values. 288w

MSI extreme is the last alternative, unaltered settings full power.

All defaults otherwise. All of it totally unstable. Doesn't matter which setting. Board came back from RMA, they replaced a cap.

Called them about it shutting off anyways. MSI said ""update the bios, Intel has problems with the CPU stability."" It was fine when sent the board out. B660-G tested the cpu as working good, no stability issues.

Only way to save the board, install factor shipped bios with a programmer and then original firmware and bios release for 14th gen. New fresh windows copy and turn off windows update completely. Cause windows will push ME firmware during updates.

That's where I'm at so far. MSI blames Intel, Intel blames MSI. It's Intel and MicroSoft's fault for updating firmware without permission.

Intel admitted that CPUs have have issues are physically damaged due to overvolting, reducing operating frequency is at best paliative, the CPU will need to be replaced

Extreme spec is not supported on Core i7, and 288 W is still above Intel's Performance spec for the 14700K... looks like MSI isn't dialing it down.

My Apex Encore adheres to these values to the letter, I double checked. Baseline is also not available with KS CPU installed.

It states Intel extreme profile. Right in the bios, right at the top. In the order I gave it. And tried each one.

Cpu worked fine in the backup board I use for 12th gen. Have 2 of them actually.

So, I don't believe there's physical damage to my cpu. However I won't be able to confirm these findings because I'm out of town.

Never had an issue going beyond specs.

Windows ME was already up to date after I flashed bios firmware. M$ installed it before I did. My pause updates for 7 days expired and the PC updated on the next restart. Which happen to be when I put the drive in the board when it returned from RMA due to a physical failure which was admitted to a cap blowing up. Which I believe cause 5.8ghz/4.7ghz P/E cores was way beyond spec and have done it many several times.

Just so far the experience I've had with the so far. I just don't have all my gear with me, so can't tear much at this time.

Your choice to allow 288w on the i7 just so cinebench scores higher.

Mine is now at 175/125 limits. I have no daily load which will be affected by that I think.

the good old times with a 2600k turbo boost 2.0 to 3,8 from 3,4 and 4,5 ghz was no prob for everyone within reach even with a bad batch
times have changed but no company is without fault.

so just game on and have fun (remembers when 30fps was much)

I usually statically/manually OC. Presets don't work for me.

Not saying that it is or that it won't work, just that Intel doesn't support it for i7 SKU officially. It's more of a formality than anything. 288 doesn't line up with anything but MSI's own former settings

Try 1.385v and 50% starting on your coolers lol you guys treating this like 10th gen not everyone has processor issues Im very happy with my 14th gen
