It's just unacceptable that with a 2000EUR/USD card, the manufacturer cheaps out with the TIM. I hope Asus will learn their lesson in the future.

The Hotspot of my 4090 SUPRIM LIQUID X never get higher than 85°C... even Overclocked with GDDR6X at 25Gbps (+2000) !!!

Any follow up from the OP? I am in the same boat with my ASUS TUF 4090 OC. Hotspot temps 107c under load. Currently debating ASUS RMA vs PTM 7950 myself. I was wondering how it worked out.

Undervolt it first, and see how much temps drop. Or RMA it, but shoot Asus an email first, as they might say that "it's in normal parameters" BS.

I did try undervolting (0.925v) and also tried 80% power level with a normal voltage curve. Both yielded hotpot temp of about 90c with average at 60c. Under load the hotspot is about 30c over "gpu temp". I want to RMA, but I am paranoid that I will get some refurbished card with other problems, some big bill, or the same problems. You think I should reach to ASUS first?

If you can return (not RMA) it, and use the cash to get a 4090 from another manufacturer that doesn't screw its customers, I'd do that.

Otherwise I'd suggest PTM7950, if you RMA the card not only are you sitting without a GPU, but there's the risk that they'll send you back either a new GPU with the exact same problem (so you have to PTM7950 it anyway), or someone else's old GPU that was RMA'd and "fixed" and then breaks on you.

Either way, take it as a lesson to never buy ass-us again.

I got it from Microcenter in Dec 2022. Tried for weeks to get an FE. Unfortunately, the ASUS was all I could get my hands on at the time. And my Vega 64 was dead. I certainly can't return it at this point. Getting the cooler off for PTM 7950 seems straightforward.

Either that or you use it with an undervolt and power limit, until it gets out of warranty, i assume sometime this year, if you bought it in 2022. And after the warranty expires, then you repaste it with PTM and get new pads for the memory if necessary.
