People who purchased a Zen 2 cpu would have been significantly better off now than someone who purchased a 10th generation cpu they also weren't far enough apart that it mattered with how the majority of people actually game. I owned both my 10th gen system's is retired but my zen 2 based system is still going strong and was the substantially better investment.

7900XT came down to it or the 4070ti 12GB both cards weren't very good in my book but it really came down to how people game and DLSS/RT vs the extra vram. I don't think buying either especially at launch was a good investment but people are going to recommend based on their biases and use cases not everyone's is the same.
Zen2 is and always was slower than 10th gen if you compare corresponding SKUs, the only way the are better off is if they upgraded Zen2 to Zen3. 10700 non-K I got back then always had an advantage over 3700/3800/3900x in gaming.

What is true is that they had a better upgrade path, but still, that required buying a Zen3.

that's not what I've seen, compare 7800xt launch results (right) vs 7800xt retested in December this year (left), it actually got even slightly faster compared to 4070. Not to say that there aren't reasons to pick the 4070, but I'm not really seeing amd perforance numbers deteriorate. Look at 7900xt vs 4070Ti, it's the same 10% difference with RT off.

I'm going off TPU testing which uses current game engines and a wide selection of games.

Nobody plays a "wide selection of games" (maybe the unemployed/pensioners with a passive income and 24 hrs free time per day do, but that's besides the point). One should look at the individual games that one intends to play, and draw conclusions from there.

Not that a few percent difference matters anyway. You don't feel such tiny things while you're immersed in your game. And if you're not immersed enough, well, just play something else, then. ;)

Anyway, OP seems to be away which makes me assume that they got the answer that they wanted.

If you care to read, 10th gen is still over 10% faster than Zen 2.

"narrative" aside, in reality the 4070 Ti vs 7900XT situation, on launch 7900 XT was faster in raster, 4070 Ti in RT. Now they're equal in raster and 4070 Ti is 25% faster in RT. So much for fine wine, AMD being better value, or games needing more VRAM as time goes on.

PS5 Pro another example of Sony doing what they can despite AMD, focusing hard on RT hardware and even making their own upscaler due to the state of FSR. Consoles drive gaming so you can expect PS6/next gen Xbox/ NVIDIA Switch with DLSS to keep doing that.
10th Gen vs Zen 2? Seriously? It is going to be 2025 in a few days and you are talking about parts from 2019?

You do realize that a 4070TI costs more than a 7900XTX. Even after that I am sure that is not true in every single scenario.

Yep because the PS5 Pro has brand new hardware? Give me a break. Your comments are always half full. If Nvidia lowers prices to the point that they become viable for a console would have to be seen first. Sony is not going anywhere. Nintendo has never looked at Performance so enjoy your new Switch GPU with a 1030 class ok 1060 class GPU.

I love this one. FSR is in what state? Available to all GPUs? Can you even do that and I wonder what version of DLSS Nvidia would sell Sony. Last time I checked though Console ports were not the woe of AMD 7000 cards.

It was an example which you didn't read well enough to understand.

Not at launch, and not now either. Again, try reading the post, I'm comparing to an XT.

It does have brand new hardware, yes. In fact it's newer GPU tech than RDNA 3 because they specifically wanted to improve on the RT deficiency of the original PS5, based on RDNA 2.
I love this one. FSR is in what state? Available to all GPUs? Can you even do that and I wonder what version of DLSS Nvidia would sell Sony. Last time I checked though Console ports were not the woe of AMD 7000 cards.
Yes, the state bad enough that Sony developed an alternative out of pocket so upscaled 30 FPS IQ wasn't miserable.

10th gen vs. zen 2? Really? The zen 2 system is better in the long term,as you can just upgrade to zen 3 without needing a new motherboard.
Also the 7900XT is cheaper than the 4070Ti, most buyers do not care about launch prices, only enthusiasts buying on launch day care about the MSRP. The 4070Ti Super having 16GB is a good example of needing more VRAM in order for a card to perform better. Sony doing their own thing isn't anything new but the narrative you're pushing is hilarious.

If and only if AMD want a bigger market share (as they declare), they have to lower prices because, as we know, there is no other way to do it.
9070 XT is rumored to be ~=<7900 XT with better RT because there is no other way to be around 4080, 7900 GRE is slower.

More interesting here is if FSR4 will be available for the old cards if it uses AI modeling like Nvidia's DLSS.

**The 9070 XT will be faster, so better wait.

"needing more VRAM to perform better"

I see, so it's the VRAM, not the fact that it's a 4080 lite with associated core count increases, on completely different die than the 4070.

Continue to ignore the 12 GB 4070 Ti outperforming the 20 GB XT, as that clearly proves your point?

If you're not in dire need of a new GPU today then I would suggest you wait for reviews of the RX9070
I have a RX7800XT and it does struggle in RT gaming turn it off and it screams along no problemo so if RT isn't a need your looking for for 1080p/1440p gaming it's a good little runner for the price
