AM4 owners - have you ever pulled out CPU while removing the CPU cooler?

For those who have removed an AM4 CPU, have you ever pulled out the CPU with the cooler?

  • No - never, but I've only removed a CPU very few times

Feels weird that Intel has used LGA for consumer sockets the last 19 years. Feels like yesterday when I read about LGA775 to be the next Intel socket.
Yup and reports of bent mobo pins...

Benchmark Scores I have wrestled bandwidths, Tussled with voltages, Handcuffed Overclocks, Thrown Gigahertz in Jail
I've worked on several builds for upgrades/troubleshooting temps/re-paste/etc.

The first time I experienced a CPU cooler being stuck to the processor was donkey years ago which simply allowed me to quickly search the web for a solution. As others have already suggested, the solution was simple... turn on the machine, run a stress test or something to heat up the compound, power off, unplug, unscrew (making sure the back support plate has come off) and gently twist the cooler both clockwise and anticlockwise with some light upwards pressure until it comes off.

The result: i've never had the CPU come off with the cooler.

When I upgraded from a 3600 to a 5600, the FSP Group Tower Heatsink vacu-bonded to the IHS of the 3600.

I did all the tricks I knew: it was still warm, I wiggled, twisted, etc. Would not come off.
Thankfully the pins didn't get damaged but, IIRC I had to pry the CPU off the bottom of the heatsink; it was sucked on there tight.

Have done the same with a s940 opteron, but just bent the few bent pins back.
TBF, that CPU was already slightly bent.
Got a deal on a trio of 885s, got called by the seller 10mins after buying, apologizing for the discovered condition, and got another 50% off.

I'll put it like this in my case.
Some coolers I have in particular are bad about the CPU "Sticking" to it so I just pull it out with the chip.
As long as you pull straight up and out there shoudn't be any damage to the pins, you're more likely to cause damage to them by separating the CPU from the cooler after both are out of the system.

I've mentioned this before too - Take advantage of the empty spaces/gaps between the cooler's retention brackets around the socket if you can and slide the cooler towards these gaps, most likely towards where your RAM sticks are - You can just pop those out of the board while you're at it so they aren't in the way.
This way you have a chance of just sliding the cooler off the chip without having to pull up on it at all and the cooler just comes off - How well it works depends on the cooler used and board in question due to component placement of course.
