It's definitely one area where Nvidia can learn a few lessons from AMD, poor support at launch has somehow become a feature.

Yes and no. If its prices right then its a win gor customers. Ur basically buying a product thats constantly improving, hence stayimg relevant for longer. As for me personally 1 year is hardly outdated as I keep gpus for 2-3 years(with the exception to my rx480 that i got in march for 235 and sold just yesterday for 400)

Thing is it goes from underperforming for it's position to just barely edging out or competing. You would still be better off having the better card for longer on the other side.

This whole vega release shitshow somehow reminds me of these new games' green light feature. Pay up front and expect developers to work some magic in improving them. Only difference being a lot of those green lit games sell at a discount price while Vega FE is charging a premium.

RTG is done for 2017. They better get their shits together to start working on their next mid-range GPU. I hope we won't get to see a Vega rebrand someday. That would be extremely sad.

I'll go ahead and order my 1080ti. Done with waiting for this imaginary card. Finally went Intel last year waiting for Ryzen to finally show up, and now I guess I'll jump to NV waiting for Vega to finally arrive. AMD has sullied the opinion of a lifelong customer on both fronts due to this debacle. (The stock is still keeping me happy though).

Actually you should wait a couple more months until nVidia releases the new 2080 and 2070 cards. Those would be launched 1 moth after Vega most likely.

It is becoming painfully obvious that the main culprit of Vega's issues come down to drivers. You have games where Vega FE loses to the 1070, and then games where it matches the 1080 Ti!

It will be fascinating to see how good Frontier will become once rasterization, Power usage, and other features are fixed/enabled. Frontier literally just seems to be an unready product that was launched so AMD could claim they launched in H1.

September is when RX Vega will truly be ready, and it better deliver...

Question is, will Vega FE ever deliver? If there are such radical changes in BIOS that RX Vega needs to be delayed for so long, it's questionable if Vega FE will ever have same performance as RX Vega in games. I mean, why else would they need a frigging 1 extra month just to announce things about RX Vega if they are the same things just with 8GB less of HBM2? Something just doesn't add up here and I can only understand it that RX Vega will indeed deliver GTX 1080Ti performance. Otherwise, why bother with all this delaying anyway if it won't/wouldn't? If everything was the same, they could be having mass production under way as soon as Vega FE was released. But they don't. And for some bizarre reason, I seem to be the only one finding this to be very odd. The rest just keeps on pissing on Vega FE how bad it is in gaming and making speculations based on Vega FE how shitty RX Vega will be, entirely ignoring this massive time gap between both that just doesn't make any sense unless they know why Vega FE was released so early and why it's such an underperformer in gaming but not in compute workloads...

Another delay. You've no idea how happy I am reading this :banghead:
I only hope that this delay will make vega faster. If not AMD shouldn't bother and just release it as it is now. Poor planning I think but still have hope. Maybe AMD came up with some radical improvements? I sure hope they did. Mean time we might get new Fsync2 monitors or something. Not sure what's the plan for Fsync2.

Even though I don't plan to buy Vega anytime soon, these delays are getting really ridiculous. AMD seems to have a gift of fucking anything up for the most obscure reasons.

The other thing is (and that is what I believe it to be) they don't want to FCK anything up and that's why the delays occur. Well at least that's what I would like this delay to be but what it is exactly we will find out after Vega is released.

By how much was Vega delayed thus far?

It's sad how people still keep making up excuses for Vega; It lacks optimizations! It needs a more mature driver for tiled rasterization, lower power usage, etc. (none of which can be fixed in software BTW).

The driver is no excuse, they've had since last November to test it on working hardware, which is longer than normal. RX Vega is postponed due to supply issues, not driver issues. AMD needs a high-volume cheap competitor to GTX 1070/1080 to make some profit, it doesn't look that good for Vega so far.

If Vega drags out until next year, then sure.

Maybe you missed one important point here. Nobody is making excuses and people will buy Vega cause they are enthusiasts and like something from AMD's department. No matter if it ends up below 1080 TI or above or same speed as 1080.

You are aware you're talking about card that hasn't even been released yet, yes?

Note how I originally said "if priced right"
Remember its current performance id what decides its current market placement. So if now it performs like a 1070 then it will be priced as so. But otherwise i agree with you fully

Many are blaming the unsatisfactory performance of Vega FE on a faulty tiled rasterizing. If the rasterizer is faulty, then that's a hardware issue, it's not something that can be fixed in an improved driver.

Fanboys always cry out for missing "optimizations" for AMD, but the truth is that these game "optimizations" only help edge cases, and usually does little to tilt the balance.

The fact is that when RX Vega finally launches, it will have the most "mature" of any recent launch, since AMD have had more time than ever. If the hardware performs unsatisfactory at launch, then it's the hardware. Please stop making up excuses, we know the facts.

Vega FE is launched but still not available, and the drivers works just fine for that card. The product is super late to market, even if the drivers were a little immature, getting it to market would still be more important for AMD.

The whole driver excuse is just one simple thing; AMD fans are in denial about Vega's performance, and are claiming to the last hope that software can keep the horse alive. But those who have long-term memory knows this tale repeats every time; it's always about future performance we never see.

I think you are missing something. The fallout4 showed VEga FE on par or very close to 1080TI on 2k. How would you describe that? Some people say that this card is not for gaming and it may not perform as accurate with games to give a proper insight on upcoming RX Vega. So if you can share opinion on that I would be grateful. If Vega can go on par with 1080Ti in Fallout4 it means that there's a potential. right? Well what other explanation would be there? Also if you think that Vega is in particular improved Fiji and the last one is stuck with 65 FPS tops while Vega FE gets 120FPS+ so is it actually same as Fiji or slightly improved? So what would that be? I'm guessing drivers some game optimizations? What's your opinion? On top of that this game has never been an AMD show off game like DOOM with Vulcan. Other games don't look that great for Vega but as few people mentioned is professional card. Drivers have to follow which maybe weren't during that benchmark. for me 2k is not 1080p so there's something there with Vega that might be worth something. Maybe totally new architecture which means the performance is there but AMD needs to bring it out?

If you read PCPer carefully they later admitted that they had tested Vega FE in Fallout 4 at a lower resolution (1440K) vs the other cards which ran at 4K.

Oh. I didn't know that. Thanks for clarification then. although here's the 4k for the 1080, 1080ti and VEGA FE. How come it doesn't match the FPS's that where in the picture above?

can you throw a link so I can catch up?

I will just continue to quote AMD:
"The Radeon™ Vega Frontier Edition graphics card is designed to simplify and accelerate game creation by providing a single GPU that is optimized for every stage of this workflow, from asset production, to playtesting, to performance optimization."
This product is made for game development and testing, of course it doesn't behave differently from other Vega products.

Also if you think that Vega is in particular improved Fiji and the last one is stuck with 65 FPS tops while Vega FE gets 120FPS+ so is it actually same as Fiji or slightly improved?
Vega have a number of improvements over Fiji, including more computational power, probably small tweaks throughout the design.

So what would that be? I'm guessing drivers some game optimizations? What's your opinion? On top of that this game has never been an AMD show off game like DOOM with Vulcan. Other games don't look that great for Vega but as few people mentioned is professional card. It does always take a little while for drivers to become mature with every new architecture. But keep in mind that the delays of Vega have given AMD more time to polish their drivers prior to release. What we saw during the Vega FE release was relatively mature drivers, there will of course be some minor tweaks until RX Vega arrives, but we're talking about minor stuff here.

Vega have a number of improvements over Fiji, including more computational power, probably small tweaks throughout the design.

Great. So it's just to wait for Vega for me since i couldn't resist and bought that monitor :) We'll see how it goes when Vega gets here. I'm sure AMD will polish the drivers and get some more outta it :)
Thanks for you comment pretty valuable :)

Unluckily the drivers aren't optimized for any use right now

Let him be. I'm gonna wait for Vega buy it benchmark it and put in on here. Leave the comments for later. Believe me there's no point giving thoughts of what you have discovered or what's bugging you really. I got the 4k monitor and now it's Vega's turn to show up. Looking forward to that :D

Even if it is better than a 1080ti unless it doubles the performance of one it still wont maintain 60fps

there was a lot of questioning and doubts that 1080Ti can't sustain 60 fps all the time. Well people with 1080 said they have no problem with 4k 60FPS. of course you have to crank the details or shadows down a bit. Still worth it. If it turns out that Vega wont be as fast as 1080 TI fits somewhere above1080 it can handle 4k no problem. Maybe not on all games but most of them for sure. Of course getting shadows or some details down has to be reasonable. That's for individuals to judge. I really see no problem with 4k gaming. I've seen it on the 1080 TI and believe me it is fine. And the image looks so damn great.
