there was a lot of questioning and doubts that 1080Ti can't sustain 60 fps all the time. Well people with 1080 said they have no problem with 4k 60FPS. of course you have to crank the details or shadows down a bit. Still worth it. If it turns out that Vega wont be as fast as 1080 TI fits somewhere above1080 it can handle 4k no problem. Maybe not on all games but most of them for sure. Of course getting shadows or some details down has to be reasonable. That's for individuals to judge. I really see no problem with 4k gaming. I've seen it on the 1080 TI and believe me it is fine. And the image looks so damn great.

I have two with 4k and the titles that SLi doesn't work I drop below. What is acceptable as far as dropping settings goes isn't for others. I spent a decent penny on these cards they had better be able to push a single 4k.

It's like I said. It's for individuals to judge if they are satisfied or not with their purchase. It also depends which games you play. For me dropping a bit of details, mostly from ultra to very high or something like that is not a problem. Difference is rarely visible. Same goes with shadows. But that's my idea of playing. Other people understand 4k gaming acceptable when you have everything on highest possible settings and still get over 60Fps. Like I said individual judgement. As for me I'm ok with lowering settings to stay on 4k. But if I was forced to lower settings in a way that would impact the visual effects noticeably I'd go for 2k instead. still great experience.
