have a 5950X and a 4090
But this 98X3D smokes your 5950X in absolutely everything while using less power, does it not?

You have a 4090.. of course it will be fine at 4K lol.

I have a 5900X, so I do know where you are coming from, CPU wise.

Why you getting personal like it is your CPU that you have designed lol? I am stating facts, nothing else, if I am wrong I will admit it when you show me what I have said is not correct, you are defending your personal choices in HW purchasing by attacking me for stating simple facts that are on the internet everywhere, not saying it's a bad CPU or you made a bad choice but the "fastest gaming CPU" moniker is misleading when you look at the actual data and interpret it, in certain scenarios yes, though they are not real-world scenarios was my point, no one with a 4090 and 9800x3D is gaming at 1080p and lower, you take this out of the equation and they are all within spitting distance of each other, of course this is a tech site so showing those results and labelling it as the fastest gaming CPU goes without saying but you need to read between the lines and see that there is less than 5% performance difference between a "gaming orientated CPU" and the latest and greatest from AMD and Intel even when you look at the $200 CPU's
Ok, check this out boss. 12900k, cpu bound, dropping to ~70 fps. My 4090 is at 50-60% utilization at times.

Bruh just bump it to 8k...... Cuz that is the only way to test cpu performance man it's 2024 get with the times.... Who cares how people actually game or use their cpu other than how I do.......

All joking aside I see the same thing in games with a 7950X3D only closer to 80% most the time and that is tuned with games tied to the cache CCD running at 5.2GHZ with a decent CO but what do I know I only use the actual hardware every day.... Sure there are large stretches and a lot of games that 100% it but not every game and not in every area of a game.

This game gets the same performance with a 7800x 3d, but comparison wasn't the point. The point was, a lot of games are still CPU limited, specifically if you test heavier scenes. Currently im trying to play cyberpunk with some mods - CPU drops to 40-50 fps.

The thing people don't get is that you can circumvent GPU bottlenecks by dropping a few settings, not much you can do about CPU. If your CPU maxes out at 50 fps, that's pretty much it, you are at 50 bar a few settings that might help.

Oh I know wasn't saying that but you know the internet people will just say your 12900k is slow compared to the fastest gaming cpu's.....

I agree Witcher next gen still drops into the low 60s in spots due to cpu bottleneck at 4k I mean you can turn RT off sure but what is the point then might as well play the original version.

Oh well, this 12900k is running megatuned 7200c32 ram and it's ~ a stock 14900k with XMP. I know cause I had both.

To be fair to the other side, a lot of games are also mega GPU bound (alan wake 2) but man, you are not buying a 9800x 3d to play alan wake.

Just wait till you get that 5090 then you will be bottlenecked in Alan Wake 2 lmao...... Maybe not with Pathtracing lol.

And some spicy details from my ocing community, megatuned 9800x 3d > megatuned 14900ks in every game bar star citizen. Which might not sound impressive but that wasn't the case with the 7800x 3d which lost a lot more than it won. The 9800x 3d is a freaking animal.

Oh yes, witcher also needs FG to get smooth CPU performance, else you are toast.

Here is the 7800x 3d playing dragon age at 4k with a 4090. Yes, GPU hit 90+% in some scenes, dropped to 80% in some, but overall fps was low cause the CPU was struggling. Now imagine you are running something less modest than a 7800x 3d or a megatuned 12900k. 3:20 on the video

I seen some results of direct die on it pretty impressive. AMD finally made a X3D CPU for people who want to tinker it would seem.

I still prefer just running a CO but I am interested to see the crazy results people get.

Bro Im the citizen Intel fanboy (supposedly) and im looking to preorder. Building an ITX or an m atx. Granted, will be to replace my 2nd rig (still running a 3700x, lol), but I was damn impressed.

Bruh come on you do come off a an intel fanboy most likely due to the fact that you like to tweak your cpu..... Tinkering fanboy would probably be more accurate but since you couldn't really tinker much on Ryzen that only gave you one option is my guess only you actually know the truth.... I've always enjoyed our back an fourths. Again we are all here because we love hardware after all.

I did half expect you to grab a 285K just to try and figure out how to make it look less bad though I was kind of looking forward to it actually lol.....

Was gonna do that actually, but I think it's a half lost cause for gaming, the IMC being on another continent - not much I can do there :D

I still think the 285k is an amazing chip actually, but it's just not a gaming chip first. Which frankly is okay for the i9, the major problem is the i5 which should be the go to tier for gamers, but it's not, cause it underperforms. So i9 good, i5 stinker.

Definitely, for people who can utilize what it's good at it's fine and gaming performance is adequate just a bummer after 2 years on from Raptor Lake......

I am excited to see your results with the 9800X3D though.... Hopefully I get to play around with one early next year.

I'm currently looking for an ITX / mATX that can run superfast memory but - they don't even exist for am5?

Supposedly the x870 strix I can do it, but in actuality it seems to be struggling to hit 8k. Bummer

Probably better off trying to get 6400 working and then tuning the timings way down.... Not sure which kit would be best for that. Just fixing the default timings on my 7950X3D added about 5% in cpu limited scenarios due to how crap default expo can be. I forget at what speed it slightly beat 6000 CL30 maybe around 8000 depending on game...

Was looking for something that can do 8400+ since I already have a 7800mhz kit. Currently only the hero can do it, but I'd rather go for a small build.

I would say getting a cpu that can do 2200 fclk is more important If you get a 1dpc board they tend to do 8000-8200. A few 2dpc can do that, but uncommon. A few more agesas and we get better support for 8000+ probably. There is little to gain on 1ccd cpus though due to limitations of IO-die. High fclk can to a degree overcome this.

My hdv matx can do 8000 without to much hassle. Itx from Asrock or Asus seems to do 8000-8200 aswell

Curious as to where you read that? I thought it was the X670e strix that had those issues at 8k memory, but that was the same for pretty much every b650/x670 board and only the b650e tachyon and x670e gene could reliably do it. A lot of X870 boards can do 8000 memory though and the X870-i should be no different I think.

Still can't believe how far down the gaming performance chart the new Intel 285K is. It's shocking lol. All that R&D, newest and best process node and complete design and they end up in 11th position...View attachment 370490

yeah, what happen with intel cpu lately, although amd cpu still using formula 8 core 16 thread only....... its so weird with the latest generation of intel cpu series.

I have some buddies that just run benchmarks.

The x870i doesn't get nitropath like the hero does, so I think it will struggle.

this is 1080p gaming though? that percentage shrinks down to 3-4% at 1440p I assume, even on 24H2? I will have a look later if you can't share a screenshot
- 1080p is all you need to know, in order to be aware of which CPU would give you more frames at different settings, even in higher resolutions
- it's all about how many frames you need and which seetings you are happy to settle with
- as most reviewers test in Ultra settings, you will not see sizeable uplifts in higher resolutions
- as soon as you lower the settings to High or Medium, this CPU will give more frames than others in all resolutions
- here, some examples of different settings and different frame rates

Nitropath is mostly beneficial for 4 dimm boards though. Der8auer's video was pretty insightful as to what it actually is.

I should have one if I can snag a deal over the coming weeks.

Simulation games in 4k plz. @Vayra86 Buy one and test your crazy Farthest Frontier saves.

I think the result depends always on the games in question.

I own a 1440p monitor. The 1440p results give me as a Ryzen 7600X owner the impression that a 6 core + 6 fake core processor is enough.

On the other hand I think some stuff like flight simulator or something else would show much more the differences from a low budget, cheap Ryzen 7600X to higher core count or higher cache processors.

I do trust that those specialists who write those tech articles have chosen very wisely what to test and how to test.

It varies with your GPU as well. Anything less than a 4080, and I'd expect the difference to shrink to 0%.
No. Even with 7700XT and 7800XT it can bring benefits in higher resolutions and lower settings scenarios.

It's all about how many frames a player really needs and which settings they are willing to accept, at any resolution.

9800X3D will give the best boost overall, not only with high end GPUs.
