Are this black-grey artifacts-squares in dark areas normal?

Here are originals pictures (recorded with relive) and instead of pictures I recorded video when scrolling throught these 6 pictures. On my mobile phone (Sony Z1) with brightness 100% I can see only half of small banding on Tomb raider loading screen. On others I can`t see anything no matter how hard I zoom. I also put picture from "HD" (around 3gb) movie, you can see there blocky artifacts in black color. Picture from game Thief couldn`t be uploaded because it is too large but you can see her in video. Game Sins of a solar empire is almost on ultra details. Monitor is set to Gamma mode 2, which should provide darker image and some black crush. That guy from review used Gamma mode 1 as best mode for this monitor. With Gamma mode 1 picture is brighter and color banding looks much worse.

It's been well over a month! Have you RMA'd your monitor yet?

@dorsetknob If you read carefully this thread I wrote before that my motherboard has some problems and that I will send motherboard to RMA in April. Parallel with that I will RMA my monitor, in that case I won`t be without PC too much time. Any comment on my last post from those constantly wrote that my monitor is OK?

Okay, you're RMA'ing your broken hardware in 2 months. So what are we doing here?

This week I bought DisplayPort cable (that guy that reviewed the monitor wrote "Note that there was a bug when setting the monitor to 60Hz (or 59Hz) via DP whereby the image appeared flooded as if contrast was at ‘100’ even when it wasn’t" - I thought that maybe my HDMI port is broken) and I just wanted to do a little update here that DP cable didn`t fix the problem but some users here have told me again and again that my monitor is OK and wanted to test it more.

Nah, the monitor needs RMA.

Just RMA the monitor and then get back to us how the replacement fixed it.

Sending finally next week monitor to RMA, if they allow me I will switch it for something else.

Last week my friend bought Benq EW2775ZH (200€, Va, no freesync, 60hz) and I put it near my Samsung monitor for comparasion. Benq has better picture from what I saw but I am afraid that it will have something like this in games:

What about Acer ED273Awidpx (299€, VA, freesync 48-144hz)? Does anyone here has expiriance with this monitor?

There is also BenQ EW3270ZL 32" (311€, 2k, 60hz, no freesync) but I heard that it has very slow VA panel. Ghosting?

Any other VA panel in that price range? Minimum 27inch.

my Samsung monitor
You Send in a Samsung Monitor on RMA and they will either Repair or Replace it
If it is decided to Replace """ YOU WILL GET A SAMSUNG MONITOR"""as replacment

There is a chance that they will give me to choose something else. That store is very flexible.

This is regular VA behaviour due to the slower G2G of dark hues. But, that is a pretty extreme version of it. I have an EIZO FG2421 (1080p/120hz VA) and it does something similar but to me its more like a 'smearing' effect and actually works quite well as a form of motion blur and doesn't really annoy at all, it actually makes the image much more fluid, and motion more natural. My monitor also has a strobing backlight functionality and it works wonders in eliminating that effect you see there. It doesn't entirely remove it, but does remove to a degree that its not bad to look at.

Another thing you may notice is that when VA 'is warmed up', G2G response will improve across the board. its odd but I notice this every time, especially in cold seasons.

So it is faulty? No. Is it a weak VA panel? Probably, looking at the price and specs.

That said keep in mind that every LCD tech has its drawbacks. For this G2G behaviour with VA you can get tremendous static contrast in return. But there is a wide quality range in VA panels. Some have static contrast of 2500:1 (very poor for VA, better off going IPS then), 3000:1 (half decent) up to 5000:1 (awesome). The higher values make colors pop even with perfect calibration so no oversaturated mess of crushed colors.

If I were shopping for VA, this would be on my list spec wise
- 120-144 Hz
- <4ms G2G
- strobing backlight (or something like ULMB)
- 3500:1 > 5000:1 static contrast

Any less, and its probably wise to get an IPS instead within the same budget.

yes it's normal, my brothers TV shows dark squares on certain videos/games and its a Sony, with a playstation 4, it is whatever compression algorithm companies use. It's not perfect. Just deal with it. If your tv/monitor doesn't have dead pixels or blanks out completely, stop worrying about it and just use the dang thing.

Stop making a friggin mountain out of a mole hill!

Chill out.

Someone at the RMA service needs to make a joke and prescribe him a CRT monitor as it would be the only solution, as give understanding about image and video reproduction techniques will produce no results.

There's a chance they won't. This is between you and the store. If you want to actually figure out what they're going to do for you, and if you have questions then, ask. We're at the same point we were a few months ago in this thread.
