Seeing the following Buildzoid video makes me think that maybe the Asus GeForce RTX 5090 Astral OC deserves a TechPowerUp Innovation award to be added to it due to the per-pin power monitoring that the Asus ROG GeForce RTX 5090 Astral OC implements:

Having this per-pin power monitoring could help the user notice if there is a power input problem that could cause the 12V-2x6 connector to melt like what is going on in the RTX 5090 Founders Edition.

You are skipping the R&D costs including circuit design and software programming costs for that feature and other custom features like the push/pull custom thin fan costs. I don't think that all of the costs add up to $1000. However, saying that it is all worth $1 per card is either disingenuous or satire.
