Recently after the chaos of the big move I found my box of Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0's. I've been using a couple of them again and am amazed at how well they work, the build quality and their durability. I have a few originals plus some of the reissues that are also ancient by today's standards. How many times has Microsoft reissued a product? I'm a diehard fan of the Logitech Performance MX and have several of those as well (my bag of Uni receivers vanished in the move, does anybody have spares?) but I've never had to replace the feet on an IntelliMouse plus since they plug in never need recharging. At their original price of around $25 they were a great value. As I recall even the reissues were under $30 on Newegg.

My favorite is the Zowie EC line, I like the EC3 the best size wise. Similar to Intellimouse but smaller. I love that they don't require any drivers, its plug and play, and dpi changes are done with a button on the mouse itself. I've had an EC1 Evo which is like an Intellimouse, a couple EC2A and then switched to the newer EC3C, though the EC3C cords seem to fail eventually at the strain relief because it has some kind of stiff strain relief that meets up with the paracord. I've found you can take the EC2 cords which are a very supple thin and otherwise perfect cable, and put them on the EC3 to get the ultimate combo, that's the fix I've been doing. Other than the cords on the newer ones (EC3C), they also last a really long time. Even my oldest EC2 still works great 7 years of gaming on it. I've actually started buying a couple older Zowie (<$20 shipped) off eBay for the older style plastic (not braided/paracord) cords and general spare parts.

My first real mouse was Logitech MX310, before I just bought some random cheap mouse I can get, I upgraded because the cheap mouse died when being abused in Serious Sam 2  it died in like two stages. I use it for over 15 years before upgraded to MX518, use it for another 10+ years before scroller become sticky (rubber is literally melted). I use G402 for a few years but newer mouse don't last like they used to, start to have double click issue and scroller sometime didn't work or skips a line or just goes up and down erratically. I buy current Razer Deathadder Essential just to try out other than Logitech mouse, this one got scroller issue too. Think dust get caught easily in it as well. So idk if there is any other replacement. I found in marketplace someone selling MS IntelliMouse 3.0 but at over inflated price.

The earlier or non-Hero G Pro, is more likely to have the "double-click" issue. Even then, it seems that it's possible to solve it, just by cleaning the switches. I saw what looked like dead skin in the switch of my earlier-purchase. The one with the issue, is possibly an early revision.

I clean it and indeed it no longer have the issue, now serving as my gaming laptop mouse.

1. MSIE 3.0, its reruns and derivatives (Razer Deathadder, Zowie EC-2)
2. HyperX Pulsefire Haste (wired)
3. SteelSeries Sensei (original)

Microsoft last reran the MSIE 3.0 in 2017, it's the "Classic IntelliMouse", it seems to be the same thing but has their more recent Bluetrack optical sensor. I managed to score two BNIB last week. Should cover me for a while. Posted pics on the latest tech purchase thread

While we're talking about this, genuine question, WTF are mouse designers thinking? It's like 99 out of 100 mice are designed for small hands. Infuriates me to no end. Fellas, look at the MSIE 3.0 and copy it, change something, preferably just shamelessly clone it and make it like 25% bigger, I'm in dire need of that BIG DADDY MOUSE, promise I'll pay good money for it

My Deathadder Essential scroll wheel has all sorts of problems. It jitters like crazy and acts like if you were mashing both the page up and page down keys on your keyboard. Practically unusable and one of the reasons I ditched it. Didn't last 6 months

I need something like this, but with a reasonably high performance sensor, back/forward side keys instead of the trackball (I use them for crouch/sliding and heirloom inspection on Apex and it basically became muscle memory I can't overcome anymore)

Intellimouse Classic has the bad sensor sadly, Intellimouse Pro has the good sensor. I have both in boxes to go along with my bag of old IE 3.0s.

So yeah Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 for sure. The only "modern" and "gaming" mouse I've ever had is the Logitech G602 I have now and it's good but on the heavy side. After 5 years the scroll click button is getting a bit wonky, I should really disasemble it an clean thoroughly, but I dread getting it back together properly.

Bluetrack's a basic optical sensor, it's definitely not high-res, but I never had one malfunction on me, jitter or act up... it's enough for me, though I'll happily accept an upgrade
